Rumours on Limerick GAA facebook page that he has left the management panel.

Anyone able to confirm or deny these rumours? The editor of the facebook page is deleting comments as quick as they go up.

Be interesting to see if he is at the Dublin V Limerick hurling challenge in Cappamore today at 4.30pm.

Carey quits as Limerick selector
29 April 2012
Limerick's preparations for their Munster SHC opener against Tipperary have been rocked by the resignation of selector Ciaran Carey.

The Patrickswell clubman, who is regarded as one of the greatest hurlers the county has ever produced, was dissatisfied with the team's fitness and has decided to quit John Allen's management team just four weeks before the Tipp showdown.

"I had issues with how the team were physically prepared and that trend has been there for a while now," Carey is quoted as saying in The Sunday Independent.

"We faded badly in the second half against Clare and that should never have happened. We were eight points up and in control but when Clare moved up a gear we were unable to follow and that should not be the case at this level".

He continued: "The easy thing to do was to go through the motions for the next few weeks but Limerick hurling means too much to me. For that reason, I needed to be honest to myself but, more importantly, I needed to be honest to the players. Honesty should be at the core of any inter-county set-up and it would be wrong to stay in a system that I clearly had concerns about."

Carey admitted that the Limerick county board's decision to overlook him for the manager's job this year and last year still rankles with him.

"I was disappointed not to get the job when Donal O'Grady got it and it was a double blow not to get it last time round," he said.

"I decided to stay involved when asked by John Allen and I was quite prepared to give him my full backing, but over the past few weeks I have just not enjoyed it.

"It will come as no shock to the management that I have made such a decision because I have voiced my concerns over the past few months about our preparations. If you are to have any hope at this level, you must be able to compete with the best teams, because power and pace are such a major part of the game now. In this regard, we have some way to go."

He's gone according to the Independent. Unhappy with the fitness training and had made his views known, but to no avail. It must be a real issue and LK cannot afford to lose this great man

I wonder do many of the players share his view on the physical side of preparations not been up to spec.

I have said it here before that I was surprised with John Allens comments on the winter training ban where he was all in favour of it and didn't see why lads had to train at all over the winter, this was in contrast to most of the other top managers who nearly all said it was unworkable as lads were going to train away anyway in smaller groups to get around the ban.

As a result are Limerick now behind other teams in this regard as Allen doesn't seem to but much weight on the fitness side of things.

On the other side of things Tipp are supposedly have put in a very hard training schedule up to now , but their seems to be no sign of any benefits of it yet as they look very sluggish and a bit off the pace this year so far. Having said that they were similarly sluggish enough for the early part of 2010 as well.

Players are well aware and equally concerned about the training intensity

The winter training ban is fine, as long as you really go flat out hell for leather when you return in the new year.

I was intrigued the night of our debate on Thursday week last when Ciaran was asked about John Allen.

His reply was along the lines of.... He is settling into the job, he was out of hurling for 5 years and was still coming to terms with how things had changed while he was out of management.

A kick in the bollox is the only thing that comes to my head when i hear that one of the greatest hurlers of all time is leaving an inter county team because he didnt think the training was physical enough. i played against ciaran when i was young and often had a few fights with him and came out the better looking man. ciaran is a pure gentleman and did his almighty best for limerick hurling. he is a great man manager and should be managing the limerick team at present instead of that cork money grabber fomey boy john allen. limerick need a man like ciaran or tom ryan to get those limerick hurlers at present to pull there hand off there jockeys whip and on the hurley. niall moran playing hurling is like watching a dog lockin on to a fence while its on and shaving the almighty bollox of himself. But shur look we need to get over this carey bump and prepair for thoes tipp hoors who'll be ready for some serious tearin and dragin in 4 weeks.

Training has been poor and that was no secret. John Allen and the other selectors and are living in cloud cuckoo land. We always do this in Limerick. I will not go to Thurles. Get rid of John Allen and bring back Jerry Wallace.

I am sorry to say that Sunday Independent story was a case of a Limerick man selling a story for pieces of silver. Ciaran was badly left down by this and the players were left down.

Are there odds on whether John Allen will be manager on May 28th!

The game on the 27th is going to be another disaster if JA is still manager by then.

Totally agree, its my understanding that the players were to be told tonight after Dublin game of Careys departure. Carey spoke to a local journalist for a article which he thought would appear in Thursdays Limerick Leader but Martin Kiely decided to go national with the scoop instead.

You are the wum for thinking all is well with the Limerick hurling set up.meither that or you are genuinely an idiot.

You wanted to get rid of Justin and you were delighted when the team got relegated in 2010. You are an idiot who placed a higher priority on getting rid of Justin ather than maintaining top hurling division status for your county.

Come to think of it, you are an idiot.

Couldn't agree more with you. Some lads will do anything for a bit of sensationalism. Running with a story in this way is pathetic to be honest.

Id say the players will be very bothered to hear that and might not go themselves because of it

Exactly. I like carey
as player and person but he never won anything. It strikes me that the problem with limerick is that ye dont know where to turn. Make up yer minds and run with it. if ye want to sack allen and start again fair enough but at least this time stick with it
