Looks to be about 4,000 people at a double header final.
Can you blame people considering the state of the game. Fucking awful viewing.

Considering the conditions, it's not bad at all.

If you type the word I used in to google you will see that 1 of the 4 definitions of the word is " a person considered to be foolish or socially inept" Equalizers post displayed some of those characteristics so I felt based on the definition of the word that my description of him was accurate

Not funny lad, Bogball is a highly insulting reference to one of our National games. Fraiser was spot on!

Once you see the comment "bogball" you know that the poster is a flute. Probably a south Dublin (or south Dublin wannabee)Gary Glitter fan with nothing to do for himself.
Whether its hurling gaelic football rugby Aussie rules they all have their positives. I

To be fair, while the OP is a WUM, theres a serious point there.
I come from a football stronghold but I have to admit the game is gone to pot. I don't look forward to watching it anymore. The skill level has dropped alarmingly and the game is basically a speeded up version of rugby at the moment. Its fitness over finesse and if this is the way the game is going to continue to go then I'd worry about its future.

It may be something to do with the country being in a brutal recession, with three of the four counties involved being long distances away from Dublin. Just a thought!

The skill level certainly hasnt decreased it is just alot more difficult to execute the skills these days due to better defensive play and lack of space due to increased fitness. If skill had decreased games would be alot more low scoring compared to the past which they certainly arent if anything more scored are got thses days.Remember lumping the ball forward aimlessly is not a skill.Football should have went 13 a side about 10 years ago in order to open up more space.
There was plenty of skill on display at the Diviosn 3 and Division 4 finals last night.Today all four teams seemed to struggle with conditions today and it is no surprise that almost twice as many scores 2-29 were scored in the canal end today compared to 19 points which was scored at the hill end today.
I would be almost certain that no rule changes will be introduced in football in the next few years because the GAA is far too democratic and there is no general consensus on what rule changes would improve the game

The days of fellas kicking the ball over the ball from the 45 or 50 are gone. There are no COlin Corkerys or Maurice Fitzs today because they wouldn't be fit enough. You see a lot of fit athletic guys that lack basic skills and cant take long range points.
The percentage of good games you see during the championship is at an all time low. Most games are irrelevant due to the backdoor. There are more games but less quality. There are 3 teams that can win an all ireland. The GAA are losing a lot of casual fans because, as a spectacle, the game is just awful at the moment.
Im not knocking the game because I want to - it was one of my favourite games growing up and the only sport I played at a serious level. Now, I dont bother looking at games that dont involve Cork and even then its difficult enough.

I dont remember a huge amount of long range points back in the 90s when Corkery and Fitzgerald were playing certainly no more than are kicked these days. There were a fair few good scores kicked in the games at the weekend and in general long range point kicking has always been a rare sight.Maurice Fitz certainly would be able to play today and I am sure any team would have Colin Corkery in their full forward line aswell regardless of him being a few stone overweight (look at Fermanaghs full forward).
At most in the 90's you got maybe 20 live football matches shown per year that amount has probably tripled these days so you are going to see more poor matches I would argue that the proportion of poor games comparing the nineties to now is pretty much the same. When the championship was straight knockout it certainly produced more excitement as it was do or die but I wouldnt say the quality was far superior. There are plenty of games that would have had similar quality to todays final but would been more entertaining because there was more at stake.

I can't understand the slating of every football game. Most games aren't bad to watch if they are close and physical. I would consider bringing the ball from defence to attack as a skill with lads running in support of the player on the ball. For anyone that has played football recently it is harder to get time and space to pick a long range pass because of how good defenders have come. How many awful games of hurling do we see? We would be better off focusing on the positives rather than the negatives.
How many kids are going to want to watch and play a sport that is called 'bogball' and is constantly slated. There are a lot of skills in football that lads who have never played take it for granted. Kicking the ball accurately thirty yards is harder to do in football than hitting it thirty yards accurately in hurling.

I must say the heading of this thread is quite offensive for lovers of the game of Gaelic football. However, having said that it caught my attintion and watching the game for over 50 years or so I am sorry to say watching how it is played today is very dissapointing.Ya I know about the the great fitness levels and all with present day players but the game is being ruined with all the hand passing.Watching the Cork backs and they have the cut of great athletes in the first half there today hardly one of them kicked the ball out of their own backline.Jaysus handpassing the ball around your own goal makes for a very boreing game.Kick the damn ball in to your forwards and see if they are good enough do anything with it.They are so used to passing now that they recieve a pass and they return it to the same lad they got it from who is now surrounded by players and wids up fouling it.The game is fcuked lads.I see no way out of this as except for Kerry noone seems to have a clue how to play this game anymore.Whew.End of rant.

Ye disagree, fair enough.
For me though, watching football has become an endurance test and I suspect I'm not alone. Certainly the way the game has developed over the last 5-10 years doesn't lend itself to casual viewers and I think more and more people that used to go to games and followed the sport, are turning off.

Have to agree with squareball. Yes the game is more defensive and tactical in nature these days. But in the Cork/mayo game today we saw some fine passages of play. Great fist passes, super defending by Cork and brilliant scores from play by the rebels too. In Paddy Kelly, Fintan Goold and Colm O'Neill you have 3 of the best footballers around at present. And what about O'neills goal? Worth the entry fee alone. The Kildare game had some great passages too and good scores.
The 'problem' as I see it with football at present is that ALL teams are playing the same way. Possession is all, at the expense of long kicking which increases the chance of losing the ball. But the reality is that the team with the better forwards, if given enough ball, will win most games because defenders cannot stem the tide indefinitely. A team that relies on the 13 men behind the ball will inevitably come up short.
I feel that the unattractiveness of football is overstated a bit. There are enough brilliant exponents of the game in every county to keep enough of us watching. And it will always be so.

fermanagh v wicklow and longford v wexford in navan
and tyrone v kildare in breffni

I was only wondering this morning what the attendance might be. This is a terrible turn out and surely the lads in Croker will have to revise. A smaller venue wound of sufficed.

It probably would have made for a a better atmosphere if the matches were played in Omagh and Castlebar/Cork, but 22000 is that bad an attendance to be honest it just doesnt look good in such a big stadium.League finals generally dont get much more than that in the last 10 years unless Dublin are involved.
