The FA want Roy! Is Harry due back before the Crown or what?

The Harry thing was all just a clever ploy to derail the classiest team in the league. God forbid THFC were title contenders. Old flappy chin won't be pleased.

If they want an English manager, Woy is probably the best candidate.

redknapp will turn spurs into the new portsmouth.when they fail to qualify for champions league it will all go downhill.he and david storie managed to ruin pompey, while he almost single handedly put southhamton back 10 years, where they have only really recovered now.the man is overated.

The FA should offer nigel de jong the gig, it seems he's got bored with being the greatest footballer of all time, so I'd say he'd be up for the challenge. Would you agree Jack?

Best candidate for the job.
I feel sorry for him already though as the media's choice is clearly Redknapp and Harry is their darling. The media will destroy him before he even takes over

I get the feeling that the FA didn't fancy having to pay compensation to Spurs, - as 'Arry was even suggesting to his Spurs bosses; Woy being out of contract at the end of the season will obviously appeal to the FA.

The thing with Woy is that his successes tend to come with teams whose players have tended to look up to him; I'm not sure the various England squad Divas/Prima Donnas will have much respect for a Liverpool reject.

But, if nothing else, the appointment will be worthwhile for providing us with the sight of an England manager trying to rub his eyes out of their sockets, at times of frustration, as Woy has been known to do

You would think that the FA approached Rednapp on the side and were told that he decided not to go for it.

There would be a lot of heat on the FA over there if Rednapp were to come out now and slam them for not even talking to him ,he knows he was overwhelmingly the popular choice.

If he he doesn't then we can assume the FA had his blessing to go after someone else.

'Arry probably had a rethink, especially after Spurs poor run of form, and he began to read all the less-than-flattering articles that were sprouting up all about him.

The English press have a history of savaging English managers who fail to deliver; or look as if they're not going to.

After all, didn't they cause Bobby Robson's hair to turn white?

Maybe they're just talking to him about taking the job for the summer.

I know it's England, but surely their expectations cannot that high given what a shambles they are coming into the tournament?

Maybe he could make it into a full TV show... 'Geoff's Bad News' ala Noel Edmonds Christmas presents gone wrong :) The opening titles could have pictures of Ivanovic in tears

Jim, I doubt very much the English FA were put off by any compensation they may have had to pay Spurs for Harry. They have never shirked at having to pay the right money for their man. Capello was on £6 million a year for effectively 5 to 7 games. Qualification to tournaments and an extended run in competitions is said to be worth £700 million to the FA.

More likely they have seen Redknapp dally as Spur's season has been derailled. He has failed to arrest the slump in over 2 months now. at the Euro's you will have lest than 4 days to turn things around if you lose a game.

Neither men are inspiring choices to be hoinest.

Odd appointment by the FA as he has never managed a big club.

They won't admit to it, Keano, but at the same time they wouldn't have been best pleased by 'Arry's publicly-expressed advice to Levy that he should ensure he receives suitable compensation from the FA for poaching his man.

The current FA Chairman, David Bernstein, brought some sanity to Kevin Keegan's reign at City when he was starting to act like a kid in a sweetshop, and, by all accounts, he's been attempting to do the same at the FA

I know what you mean Jim, but I honestly think it would be career suscide by Bernstein if he was to penny pinch on hiring a manager for Englands flag ship.

How much compo could Spurs actually claim. When you consider the money involved with a sucessful england team and a full Wembley then it would not make any kind of sense to hold back on a million quid or so if Harry was really their first choice.

I don't think its compo, per se, Keano, or even the amount of it.
But I believe that Bernstein has been trying to bring a sense of professionalism, and 'decorum' to the FA
He's one of the 'unsung heros' of City having even got to the stage where investors such as the Abu Dhabi Group looked to invest in it
I think Hodgson's dignified behaviour, generally, - leaving aside his odd touchline 'antics', - will have appealed to him

He's a dirty foreigner don'cha know. Only an Engurlishman is capable of leading the three lions, or so the papers would have us believe. How I'd love to meet them in the Q-finals (I'm confident we can get that far)

One of the UK papers noting that when Redknapp was mentioned as next manager a few months ago, likes of Rio, Rooney and Johnson falling over themselves to tweet what a great appointment it would be but the tweeting has been conspicious by its absence in last 48 hours!!

Ya that was noticeable yesterday alright. There was also a headline yesterday saying that he said previously that he would only take the job if the fans wanted him. Not sure how he intends to guage that, but as it stands the reaction has been very underwhelming from players and fans alike.
