Cant believe James O'Brien is not starting, he is a savage hurler, almost singlely handed brought Charleville an allreland junior club championship.

I'd imagine he'll be the first sub, although Spillane is very highly rated as well.

Yes he almost did that but look at one thing. Mallow and Ballyhea are both intermediate clubs and both Sheehan and O'Callaghan I presume will play at that level this year. Is Cahalane with Ballymartle. I know O'Brien will play the lower grade of intermediate but we will see how he does there.

Cahalane is Ballymartle alright. Thought he would be out on the wing though. Not sure if he is a full forward. Should be a cracking game. Surprised that O'Brien isn't starting as well. Forwards look dangerous though.

The Cork panel shows the paucity of minor hurling talent in City clubs, no player from The Barrs, Glen, or Na Piarsaigh. The Flor O'Brien transfer rule is biting now.

There was nothing but city players on the panel last year. And the Rockies are dominating everything underage.

Think that's 3 years in a row now that we haven't had a Barrs player even on the panel.
Not one from Glen or Na Piarsaigh either.

Rockies have been well represented for the last few years now, are any of those players ready to shine in senior hurling, last i heard an injury to Fergal Ryan was a big setback. Fergal is one of the best players the Rockies have had over the last 20 years but he must be 40 now.

There were Na Piarsigh players on the panel last year, and on the U-21 panels. The Glen, Barrs and B'Town have gone to s**t underage, but you can't dismiss the city as a whole as Douglas, Na Piarsigh and the Rockies seem to be doing fine.

Apologies - my post unclear. Meant none on this year's panel.
As you say, 3 Na Piarsigh lads on last year's minor team.

the barrs are a football club to all intents and purposes now. Gone way down in hurling, especially underage.

As has been asked above, what is the Flor O'Brien transfer rule?? And why dont these games with smaller crowds take place in Pairc Ui Rinn. At least we would have legroom in the stand

I'd say its a reference to lads from the county not being able to transfer into city clubs like they did 30 plus years ago ala Ring.

I assume Flor O'Brien was denied a transfer at some stage. That could potentially be a number of years ago?

Lads can we get away from all this rehashing of stupid threads sh1te with the new search function and back to present matters, its getting annoying.
These teams meet tonight in the Pairc. A dry enough day here in Limerick, what way was it in Cork? That field could have done with a days drying.
Any team with young O'Brien from Charleville and Spillane from Castlelyons on the bench cant be bad...Cork's attempts at trying to brush off this year by the suggestion that they are building for next year is fooling nobody.
This Limerick team has no real stand out player. Barry O'Connell at 6 is probably our best known player. The forwards contain some very young players, Cian Lynch is still U16 for example.
Id be thinking Cork might sneak this one but it will be tight. I just cant see where a lot of the Limerick scores will come from. Hope im wrong.
Is the game on any radio station in Cork or Limerick??
