Thats the strongest half forward line we have had in some time. Indeed its the strongest team we have picked all year.

Would love to know how they decided to pick the goalkeeper in the end. Nothing between the 2 of them so must have been an agonising decision.

Kilkenny without Power, Shefflin, Rice and Fogarty up front. Our line-up should probably be the same as per the semi final against Clare.

Would have thought without the 2 big guns up front, Cork should edge this. Another good day for KK to check out some of the new lads who have come through this year in the league to see if they are up to the pace.

Think KK will give this a right go. Great chance to swat down what may be an emerging Cork team and plenty of lads on that team thinking this may be their chance to nail down c'ship spot.
Wouldn't be too despondant if we did lose as long as we stay within a score or two of them.

We have been told for years now that the second best team in the country are the KK subs. That would have to make KK red hot favourites again for Sunday. If we could just keep the ball pucked out to ye most Cork fans would be happy!

Cork will win and the aftermath will be dominated about how St Donal Og Cusack was the inspirational catalyst for the victory after a rousing speech he gave the squad during the week/before the match/at half time or in a passionate "best of luck" group text he sent to the squad....

And if KK win we have to listen to pure rubbish about KK's "legendry" training games, KKs hunger never wanes, KK play on the edge, the ref let the game flow!

I fancy KK.

Cody will want to set down a marker after their previous meeting. KK can handle Tipp beating them twice in a league campaign but not Cork.

As a Tipp supporter looking in, its how Cork will handle the physical challenge of KK which will interest me most. If they can knock KK off ball then they have a chance (ala Dublin last year), if not then KK by 4 or 5 for me.

KK at -2 in the handicap at Evens is a serious bet imo.

Should be a cracker and well worth a trip into Thurles.

Let's hope for a good game and for the sake of hurling that Cork are back and they will be in the shake up later in the year. The more teams to compete with Kilkenny and Tipp the better for the overall game granted the Cats and Tipp produced great finals in the last few years and have taken hurling to a new level not seen before. It was a privilege to be at those matches.

Firstly Cork. State the obvious here but for shot stopping and for his laser accurate puck outs Donal Og is a big loss. Sean Og didn’t have his best game the last day, no doubt he will have to up things Sunday, a master stroke to have him back and in around the panel. JBM has sorted critical positions for Cork in moving Cadogan to centre back, this gives him more freedom and his excellent fielding and strength coming out are a real bonus. William Egan excelled in the Fitzgibbon and against Tipp he showed himself as a guy really at home in that position. In moving the excellent Pat Cronin to centre forward line it has taken the pressure off Niall McCarthy. Cork has real ball winners in the half forward line that can all score. The full forward line has a nice blend of work rate, intelligent hurling and score taking. Paudie O’Sullivan is one of the most underrated forwards in the game while Horgan on his day can be lethal and the goal from Luke O’Farrell against Tipp well shows with more game time what this man can do. Then you have Lehane, as a neutral I would say he is the most exciting forward to come into the game in years. The U21 munster final last year showed glimpses of what this man can bring to hurling. With Sweetnam and Cauglan also pushing for places things are looking rosy for Cork. Now if Aidan Walsh could be persuaded to join the hurlers as well Cork would have one hell of a forward line.

Now to the undisputed kings of hurling Kilkenny, they are in this final missing some star players, players that can be counted upon when the chips are down. Richie Power is a loss and assuming Henry Shefflin doesn’t play, not too many teams could do without such stellar performers. In last years all Ireland Kilkenny proved that without a shadow of a doubt that they are the best conditioned team to ever play hurling, year in year out they are there. They have perfected catch, offload and fast delivery. In the semi-final Clare played a system to contain the cats, come the 2nd half Kilkenny with the wind opened the game and created space right at the throw in, Clare tactically did not react. With some errant shooting and missing some of the legends of the game they still coasted clear of a younger team. I’m not sure did anyone touch TJ Reid in that game he seemed to glide along and throw scores over without breaking sweat. In Tommy Walsh Clare pitted Enda Barrett towering over Walsh, a man that won countless puck outs against Limerick but as much as he tried there was only one winner. Brian Cody is bringing in one or two players every year, they continually evolve. They are the standard that everyone must match. In saying that in last years all Ireland in my view with 10 minutes to go some players were out on their legs, maybe the years are catching up, against Clare this was not evident however.

This game is a game that any hurling enthusiast should look forward to, it will answer some questions are Cork really back? Will Lehane show the same flare and skill against the All Ireland Champions? How will Pat Cronin get on? How will Kilkenny cope without Power and most likely Shefflin? How will the ageing Kilkenny backline cope if Cork run at them when the game opens up? Will the Cork full back line who struggled with the man mountain Brian O’ Meara cope with Eoin Larkin and co. Will Sean O up his game or will the Cats exploit his ageing legs. Will Richie Hogan be back and how will he play? Jimmy Barry Murphy versus Brian Coady.

Added to this the Camogie final is also on Sunday. Finally camogie shares a national final with the men and only right. The skill level is at an all-time high. Some of the better games over the last few years have been Senior Camogie and U21 hurling, no question about that.

So for anyone saying oh Thurles is too far, oh the weather, oh the premiership, the racing or the rugby get your arse off the couch and get to Thurles for both games. You'll see 4 teams produce skills that are well woth the admission. Here's hoping for another sunny day in Thurles and great games.

Frankel,

Kilkenny minus Shefflin, Power and Rice must surely be vulnerable and beatable. when they were down big guns v Dublin in the league final last year and all ireland final in 2010 they were soundly defeated. some sign of their talent coming through if they can win minus the above on sunday

A cork man said to me after cusack's injury that he had little doubt that coleman would be in goal for the final despite Nash's fine performance the last day. He said that the word was that they rotate the sub jersey position but the management were more keen on Coleman overall and my cork source was of the opinion that Coleman is also that little bit better than Nash. his words proved to be true re team selection. tough call on Nash to be not selected but if Coleman is the better keeper its the right call.

What a year for Colemen to finally have a chance of playing championship after all the years of bench warming!!

I 100% agree cats are vulnerable Sunday missing the players mentioned, to be genuine contenders for September Cork need to win. Brian Coady with the result in Cork earlier wont make it easy though. A loss for Cork here would knock them back and dent confidence, a more important game for them then the cats possibly? An opportunity to quench the fire that JBM has instilled in Cork. Roll on Sunday..

kilkenny are in the same place as last years league final
missing alot of their players also again a team on the up.

but i don't think Cody will let what happen in last years final
happen again plus he has brought in some good young players from the minor sides of 08,09,2010,

Would agree with this , still doubts on if the Cork lads can handle it physically when it is put up to them.
