Will this competition exist in 10 years?

Reasonably attractive fixture tomorrow but very little coverage or hype around it.
Been given the weekend "graveyard slot" of 5.15pm which is when ESPN usually broadcast their tea time premier league game.

Weekend coverage will be dominated by the Newcastle v Man City game a the following day and still a further round of fixtures to go in the league.

Chelsea fans around Wembley tomorrowe will probably spend more time discussing how to get to Munich and secure a CL ticket than discussing the FA cup.

I hope not rebel. Its def lost a bit of its lustre but its still a good thing to win and bar pompey all the big teams have won it in last decade so its still seen as relevant. Only 4 teams can make ch ampions lge so cup has to be a target.

Personally i think the rot set in the day utd decided they couldn't be arsed playing in it back in 2000. Surely they could have fielded a youth team or somethin. They devalued a trophy they have won more times than anybody else. Shameful

The problem with FA Cup had nothing got to do with Utd that time. It's down to the fact that it is now almost impossible for a team outside the top 4 to win it.

The Champions league has fvcked it. Teams are far more concerned with finishing in the top 4 and all the money they can get from playing in that boring competition. Or staying in the EPL and all the money that generates. The FA Cup is an after-thought, a piece of silverware the same as the Carling Cup. The rewards are no different from winning the Carling Cup. The Cup Winners Cup was a great tournament, shame they got rid of it. But what we are left with now are two horrible monsters of competitions in the Champions League and the Europa League - and the Europa League is an after thought for those who are established in the Champions League.
Its all about one thing now - TV revenue. And the FA Cup has suffered as a result.

A team from outside the top 4 is going to win this year.

Hard game to call. I think Liverpool are favorites but i can see a fairly tense affair unfolding and going to extra time and maybe penalties.

Liverpool will not leave Chelsea get 4 goals like Spurs did, and likewise Chelsea will probably have a much stronger team in the Cup final than the Champions league final so again the shouldn't leak goals either.

Can't remember many great FA Cup finals entertainment wise recently bar the Pool West Ham final years ago.

Agree N16 and you could argue that the whole creation of that monster the "premier League" was the moment these competitions were damaged. As you said staying in the premier league is more important to some clubs that winning silverware. The likes of Busby, Shanks, Clough, Revie must be turning in their graves when they see what the English FA, all the television companies, Agents and Uefa have created..a big fat self indulgent greedy monster...........

United had no choice but to go to Brazil and clearly, you dont know why. The FA were looking to host either the WC or European Championship sin England and didnt wnat to ruffle any feathers at FIFA so pressure was put on United to pklay in that tournament. Ferguson and the players would have preferred to stay at OT and not have to jet half way round the world to play in some mickey-mouse tournament bang in the middle of the season. The FA wouldnt agree to putting their Cup tie back so United had no choice but to pull out.

This is exactly what the FA Cup is for. Teams just outside the top to try win, to give them a winning mentality to push on next year into the top 4.

Not for the like of Wimbledon & Coventry.

+1. the only way the FA cup will regain serious attention is if the wining it meant a shot at CL. From a financial pov, 4th place=more money than lifting the FA cup. It's a business today and thems is the facts.

Nowadays, for a lot of teams, if they get knocked out early, it's a disappointment, but one soon forgotten. Some teams will argue that it eases the burden on their players for fighting dor the premiership/champions league spots/survival/promotion (insert as suits).
For the game itself, it will be interesting for nothing other than the fact that Chelsea can field a stronger 11 than will be available to them for the CL final. The distance between both finals will also help them, they won't be minding players for the little matter of Bayern.

Very true. Just as well for the integrity of the cup final that Chelsea lost to Newcastle on Wednesday night. If they'd won, Di Matteo would probably have rested players tomorrow for the league trip to Anfield next Tuesday pm.

That loss means fourth spot is now more or less beyond them.

The Cup will never have a CL spot. Plattini floated the idea a few years ago and the Premier League nearly had a heart attack and shot the idea down

Winning the European Cup was always bigger than winning the FA Cup. However you do hear an odd Englishman say of Brian Clough 'he never won a FA Cup'. That statment anyway is a load of toss, back to back European Cups was a historic sporting achivment. However I do think the Milk/Coca Cola Cup should be done away with. A few too many games for the winner, considering League and Champions League. With one knock-out competion for the Everton/Stoke/Sunderland's of this world to get really excited by. It's profile would grow then.

Liverpool will win tomorrow on penalties. The same way they've won their last three trophies.

At least you can't win the league title by way of a penalty shootout.

The FA Cup Final has been devalued for the past couple of years since they brought it forward a couple of weeks and is now played before the league finishes with league games taking place the same day as the final. I love Cup Final day and it should be played at the end of the season.

Liverpool to win 3-1 in 90 mins

Unlikely to be penalties , I just can't see this Chelsea team hanging in that long in he game , Liverpool should win this comfortable enough by 2 or 3.

But if Chelsea do somehow grind out a draw , I would still expect Liverpool to have the composure to see out Extra time or even penalties and emerge victorious , they have been unbeatable in cup competitions this year.

As a Liverpool fan i'm very worried with the form Chelsea are in lately and the last thing i want is a Torres winner! Jesus that would sicken me altogether, hopefully the last few games especially the Barca one's have taken a lot out of Chelsea and the Pool sneak it 2.1 in extra time!

We need this trophy badly after a disappointing league!
