De La Salle 3-16
Mt Sion 1-13
An impressive start to the championship for DLS tonight. They never looked in any danger here and looked well trained by Derek McGrath.Good championship debut for Jack Kennedy here who looks to be a very useful addition to them, his movement and team play was excellent. Others to impress were Liam Daniels at corner back,Kevin Moran at centre back while John Mullane,Jake Dillon and Paudie Nevin looked very sharp up front. They will take some stopping on this performance and with the news tonight that Ballygunner have lost the services of Phillip Mahony for the most of the championship due to a groin operation aswell as Brian O Sullivan after the first two games as he is going to America for the summer working,it's hard to see where a real challenge is going to come from.
For Mt Sion John O Leary started brightly but faded as the game went on.Tony Browne struggled for long periods at centre back and, while i hate to admit it,Ken McGrath is only a shadow of his former self at centre forward.Martin O Neill did impress but was really ploughing a lone furrow in attack for them.
In the other game tonight Passage beat Ballyduff Upper in what was a poor game on a scoreline of 1-13 to 15pts

I forgot to add that a big topic of discussion here was the fact that the Waterford Minor goalie is suppose to lose his place in goal for Lismore seniors as he didn't play a challenge game for them last friday night-5 days before Munster Championship! If true,it must be a first that a player will lose his place on his club team for representing his county.A disgrace to be honest if this is the case as the person that told me said he had been playing there all year and the former goalie had been moved to the forwards but as a result of last week's stand off,he will be dropped and the former goalie reinstated! I hadn't intended going to the Lismore v Dungarvan game on Sunday but i will now!!

Was Passage beating Ballyduff considered a bit of a shock Penstir? Paddy Power has B/U as favorites. How did Eoin Kelly go?

Ya it would have been a bit of a shock to be honest as Passage were without Noel Connors who would have been playing at centre back for them. Kelly was always a danger at full forward and got the goal for them after 5 mins. The score at half time was 1-11 to 8 pts and Passage only scored 2 points in the second half to Ballyduff's 7(5 which came from frees)so that in itself would tell how bad the standard was!

Am i glad i didn't do my GAA accum, i had Ballyduff down with DLS on my list.
Too early to say a Ballygunner v DLS final beckons?
Are Lismore worth watching this year or is it between the 2 mentioned above.

Fourmilewater will be a team worth watching i'd say they should definitely make the semi finals but unfortunately i think it will be the big two again.Lismore will struggle i think, they seem to be in transition and could be turned over against Dungarvan on Sunday. They have a lot of good underage coming through but i couldn't see them making an impact for another 3-4 years.

DLS were always in control of this game, leading by 12 points shortly after half time, and the result was never in doubt. We all know the Sion are considerably weaker than they were a few years ago, but they look like they will struggle this year. Granted, they were playing a serious team tonight but they really struggled to compete. Players simply not coming through for them. Kelly is still a massive loss, anybody know why Sean Ryan isnt involved? They miss the physicality of these 2 up front. While Ken isnt the player he was, he scored 4 fantastic points from play, still has the class.
DLS look very strong, really impressive team effort. Their defence looks even stronger this year, Twomey hurled well in midfield and lots of options up front now with Kennedy at full forward and Dillon maturing. They look the team to beat this year already.
It will be interesting to see how Ballygunner go tomorrow evening.

DLS always in control, Sion offered very little and it looks like they could struggle this year tbh. While Ken did try hard and got a few points and took his penalty goal well, it kills me to say it about the legend but his touch was awful and pace just isn't there anymore unfortunately. MON did well to be fair and John Dee also impressed, especially his sideline balls which he seems to be consistently good at.
Ian Flynn, Moran, Madigan, Twomey, Jack Kennedy and Dillon all stood out for DLS. Mullane didn't even have to get out of second gear.
DLS look well drilled, fitter, better first touch, physical and a well oiled machine. Looks like they'll take some stopping, whicj prob Ballygunner may be the only team capable of.
That's disappointing to hear about Seanie Barry, some joke. So Lismore dropped him for not playing the challenge game so he could stay fresh for the minor championship game, which was a more important match? Crazy.

UF that has always been Lismore's problem and their undoing when push comes to shove. Then they wonder why they haven't won a senior in so long. It's always been who you are rather than what you are in there.
Bottom line is that they are a group of factions rather than a club and it totally depends on which faction has the power in any given year. I can tell you the crew in charge this year in there take some beating! Put it this way, if you're in Dungarvan on Sunday there is a better chance of entertainmemt on the sideline than on the field.
It's terrible to hear of what's happened to Seanie Barry if it's true but unfortunately par for the course with that crowd.

Jaysus, I have never seen such an inaccurate report of a match.
Liam Daniels should be Stephen Daniels
Paudie Nevin scored a goal with his first touch and hardly hit a ball afterwards.
It is Paudie Mahony, not Philip who has had an operation and it was on his hip and not groin

Sorry Clubplayer for getting the names wrong. The Liam Daniels was my slip up but on Paudie Mahony i'm afraid it was my source at last night's game that said it was his brother! As for my analysis of the match-that's my opinion on what i saw and after all it's a game of opinions!!!!!!!

Its 4 months out for Paudie , he said thats meant to be on the optimistic side of the scale , though it means now either Shanahan or Kelly going to be on the frees come championship .

Maurice Shanahan was in flying form last night against Dungarvan scoring 1-12 out of 1-20.Kelly seemed to be moving well for Passage aswell on friday night so it will be interesting to see what transpires.Mahony will be a loss for both Senior and u21.

Yeah really disappointing news for Paudie. The groin operation will pretty much finish his season. Big blow for Waterford, with Connors missing the League and doubts about his participation in the Clare match, I heard he has only recently started jogging again, we could start the championship without 2 of out best young players. I see Maurice hit 1-12 for Lismore the weekend to continue his good form shown in the League so I'd favour him taking over the frees from Paudie.

Yeah I forgot about the U21s. He'd have been expected to lead the forward line for the U21s so its a massive blow for Fergal Hartley and the lads. Hard enough to have to go up to Ennis for the game but missing your top layers makes it even harder.

Just reading the News and Star there and see that Brendan Landers played in goal for Lismore last Sunday evening.
I presume that means that young Barry was dropped?
There was an S Barry playing at centre field, maybe they played him outfield instead?

Some result here for Fourmilewater against DLS and were worth every ounce of it.They could have even won by more had they taken 2 guilt edged goal chances but i would imagine they're more than happy with the win which will boost their confidence going forward in the championship.Good displays from Liam Lawlor at centre back.Shane Walsh at full forward(especially in the last 15 mins)and from substitute Craig Guiry who got 4 points from play off Bull Phelan.
As for DLS this has brought a sense of reality to them and this may not be a bad thing,as,and myself included, thought that they looked so good against Mt Sion last week that they were untouchable. It's rarely you see Mullane held scoreless but the FMW tactics of phenomenal workrate and never say die attitude contributed to this. There are no heroes on this FMW outfit, everyone of them seems to be buying in to the"team"ethic and it's reaping rewards for them. There won't be too many teams wanting to meet them later on in the championship.
Tonight's encounter with Ballyduff Upper and Lismore should be an interesting battle and i wouldn't like to call it.Lismore nearly got caught against a spirited Dungarvan side last week and i'd say Ballyduff will be reeling having lost their opener to Passage. You can't beat a local derby to round of the weekend!

Sion beaten again. Not looking good for them at the moment. Think they have Fourmilewater next and can't see them winning that one.

What's going on at all eh? Some wins for all the underdogs over the weekend. Congrats to Dunhill and Dungarvan on their victories over Mt Sion and Ballygunner respectively. Didn't see those results coming to be honest but hats off to them, they might just have brightened up what was just expected to be another shootout between DLS and Ballygunner for the title. We live in hope!!
