On Monday night last (RTE2 7pm) 3 men solemnly discussed - with the aid of a film clip - a game attended by 151 people and obviously of major public interest.
Yes, I joke not: Monaghan V Bray Airtricity League.
Go figure.

Meanwhile, RTE decline to even give the results of hundreds of GAA games attended by thousands.

RTE Website: I can find no MENTION of tomorrows U21 Dub V Ros game (attendance 8,000 or so?) while there are longish previews of Friday's Airtricity Games.

Rte are a complete joke at the best of times. They can be so completely ordinary it's bordering on amateur. Hence why i never paid 'their yearly fee' when I lived there.

There is a love of soccer in the country, but really only of the national team and English soccer. If the soccer loving Irish public would support their local soccer teams, instead of Man U and Liverpool and the like. We would have Irish soccer teams in the Europa or even champions league, like Scotland's soccer teams. Scotland has a population of 5 and quarter million. And if Irish soccer was to fully merge and form a league with Northern Ireland. An all-Ireland soccer league would seek the attention of population of 7 million people. That would be the ideal for Irish soccer.
Soccer aside however, a sport that I like, both national and at club level(English), is competing against GAA and Rugby.
The GAA, particularly hurling is what I and most Irish people enjoy with a great passion. Of which maybe it could get more media coverage and money into the game,(the potential of a hurling champions league. Amalgamtion of Leage and Championship) to answer your question of GAA coverage.
But yes I agree with this threa as Ireland is GAA 'country'. Not rugby or soccer.

Real soccer fans do.If people who claim to be soccer fans actually decided to attend the LOI it might be a half decent league. We'll never have a decent soccer league in this country if people have you kind of attitude.Of course its much easier to pretend to be a soccer fan and sit on your arse and watch an English team on TV than to actually go and attend a game that your local LOI team is playing in.

You see soccer, and to a lesser extent rugby, are major international and professional sports.

GAA sports on the other hand are for muckers and wannabe amateur sportsmen.

Which do you think the D4 set are most likely to want?

Personally I think RTE are a disgrace for GAA coverage, they have more rugby coverage than GAA coverage for what amounts to a miniscule proportion of followers compared to GAA followers.

Couldn't agree more.

RTE sports coverage should be called soccer & rugby news or Anything but GAA sports news ...their hatred of the GAA is like something from Stormont in bygone years...Most of the sports heads in RTE are clearly Dublin South heads or Like George Hamilton staunchly anti GAA people....only for TNG the GAA would have zero coverage most of the year...

I seem to remember on an interview on The Panel (my taste has improved in recent years) about 7 or 8 years ago that the one sporting event George Hamilton would loved commentated on that he hadnt already was the All Ireland Football Final

I agree wholeheartedly. It is laughable to watch live coverage of Mickey Mouse soccer matches attended by a handful of people. There are very few true GAA people at RTE.
Of course any incidents at GAA matches will get plenty of coverage on RTE. GAA is just about tolerated at RTE.

Although RTE's coverage of the championship is very good, much better than the soccer or rugby coverage.

But you're right, covering Bray v Monaghan while ignoring some national league games doesn't seem right.

Do they think that TG4 should be left to exclusively report results etc. from league or club games?

Most likely that RTE are compelled to cover soccer league games as part of the contract to get the National team matches.
I wonder what is theh average attendance for the Irish soccer league matches?

The average would be about 1500 but some do go very low. I have no problem with people supporting local League of Irleand teams. It will never be Premierhsip standard but it is an interest for people. It is easy to be critical of it but there can be some good competitive games. However if a player shows promise he will get a go in England like Doyle, Ward Long etc. Many of the present League of Irlenad players have spent time with some LEnglish teams in the different divisions.
However R.T.E. can be criticised for their poor coverage of GAA games that draw far higher attendances. No good saying they do a good job on the Championship when they only show a couple of minutes of games like Clare v Limerick a few weeks ago.

A mickey mouse league - any fella worth his salt goes and plays in the EPL or in Scotland. I've watched games purely becuase there was nothing else on and am always astounded by the total lack of quality.

Whatever about the merits or otherwise of Rte showing highlights of Mon v Bray, I hate these glib comments that LoI soccer is rubbish. Usually from fellas who have never been to a game. Yes, it's not premier league standard but then again neither is most of the domestic leagues in Europe. The Rovers vs Pats game a few weeks back was prob the best game ive watched in months , with two top class goals ( one a cheeky chip from 18 yards) from the young Forrester from Pats. I was in London in December and a mate of mine brought me to Fulham v Bolton with tickets he got through work. Cold wet Saturday, without the sky sports hype, Bolton were shocking and the overall product was woeful. The LoI have consistently produced players over the past decade who have gone on and looked comfortable at so called higher standards in England and Scotland. For the record Tony Sheridan was the most technically gifted player I ever seen live.
