Well, no surprises in the squad really.

Ireland squad: Given, Westwood, Forde, Dunne, O'Shea, St.Ledger, O'Dea, Ward, Kelly, Foley, Whelan, Gibson, Andrews, Fahey, Duff, McGeady, Hunt, McClean, Keane, Doyle, Cox, Long, Walters.

James McCarthy asked to be left out for personal reasons, and Coleman hasn't really done much this year to justify inclusion.
McClean made it in the end.

Can't wait for it all to start now!

Best squad available imo, picked itself.

Yeah, he didn't have a great pick so anyone likely to feature is included.

Wasn't sure if he'd bring 5 stikers in the end, or leave somebody out, but he seems happy enough with 7 defenders. I suppose O'Shea can play anywhere across the back four if necessary.

Delighted McClean made it into the 23.Shame about McCarthy, but given his Dads diagnosis, completely understandable.Only 32 days to go, can't wait.

I'm going to be away on site for work for all the group games. I'm devastated... Going to have to try and organise something, satellite radio on the drill rig or something.

Hmm...in 6 weeks time you may be thanking your lucky stars....unless of course the lads can surprise us all and win a game or 2 and qualify for the next round.

A pity for McCarthy to miss out, best wishes to his family.

Sickening the amount of spoofers who claimed they knew who mystery player was to look connected. Live 95fms Liam Aherne was swiftly unfollowed on twitter by me after his pompous tweets yesterday that proved well wide of the mark, probably a vain attempt to look connected when clearly he isn't, exposed as the spoofer he is today. A couple of the quotes below..

"will only be out if people like me post it on twitter so I ain't going to be the one to do it"

"he would be a starter"

Well 3 draws wont get them through so they'll surely have to win one anyway. Not that I think they'll do it but a win against Croatia and a draw against Italy (or vice versa) is achievable. It's good in a way that we are on paper at any rate the weakest team in the group cos in tournaments we usually play our best against the better teams. It's the teams we are expected to beat is where we usually have the problems.

Just looking in the paper there at the profiles of the 23 players making up the Eire squad, I see 8 were born and raised outside of the jurisdiction.

What would be the comparative analysis with the other 15 squads as regards players from outside of the jurisdiction.

What does outside the jurisdiction mean? Does that mean outside Ireland or outside the 26 counties.

The Republic of Ireland soccer team should just be drawn from the 26 counties. Its farcical that you have all these bangers from England and Northern Ireland.

I would have no problem with players born outside of 26 counties representing us providing they have genuine irish background. But you would have to wonder about a few of these ie. St Ledger, Cox, Walters & Westwood maybe im wronging some of these lads but im wary since that w**ker Townsend on BBC commentating on England games with references of we.

Wes Holohan is a player that never got a fair crack at a place on the team/squad

Who are you too tell James McClean if hes Irish or not. Lads up North have every right to play for us instead of standing to GSTQ and taking sectarian abuse

Its fair to say the squad selection hasn't exactly produced any 'Theo Walcott-esque' shocks, as most of us would have selected at least 20 of that squad; and the only players we might have missed out on would have been some of the relatively obscure names in defence and goal).
(I see #3 goalkeeper David Forde has had 2 caps, and plays for Millwall, according to Wiki)
No doubt by the time June rolls around, we'll begin to get more excited, though

Didnt seem to bother him too much when he was representing Northern Ireland at under age level.

It clearly did given the fact he has chosen to represent the Republic, and after the abuse he has suffered who could blame him.

Wrong he claimed he felt uncomfortable playing for Norn Iron because of the Union Jack and the sectarian chants

We could draw our 3 games and go through. If, say, Spain beat Italy and Ukraine and those 2 draw with each other, they would both have only 2 points.

Straws....

Clutching.......

Nothing to do with the fact that ROI are streets ahead of NI when it comes to qualifying for EURO/FIFA events of course. Sure that would make no sense because like you said, he hates the union jack and those nasty sectarian chants.
