Anybody got any comments to make on this, personally i think it is just plain wrong...gaa supporters come in all shapes, sizes and opinions.
People should not be using their positions in the media to promote one side or the other in a referendum.
Leave the gaa for sports.....

I posted this on my Facebook page and I don't mind saying that I think it is wrong on so many fronts, not least that this group is led by former PD now FG luvvie, Pat Cox. The GAA should stick to promoting it's sports not engaging in politics.

The GAA are not promoting the yes vote 3 men who are involved in the GAA are doing this of their own free will.If some other GAA managers want to say they are in favour of a no vote they can do so if they wish

They have absolutely no business getting into politics no matter what the reason and if they were campaigning for a no vote I would say exactly the same.

As citizens of this country they are entitled to canvass and campaign for/against any referendum. However, they have no business using the GAA as vehicle for doing so.

The managers should stay well out of important national business and stick to their jobs.

Larkin, it's a bit hazy and I might be wrong but I thought I remember you looking for somebody like Paul O'Connell to get involved previously?
For the life of me I can't understand people being swayed by "celebrity" endorsement on political decisions. Can't people think for themselves? As individuals Cody, Gilroy, Counihan etc. have every right to get involved in politics as much or as little as they decide but it probably says more about the electorate that they are brought in to campaigning.

They are private citizens they can do as they wish and support any cause they wish.Dennis Hickie is also involved in this does that now mean the IRFU are supporting a yes vote.I assume you were also opposed to John O'Mahoney/Sean Kelly and the numerous other GAA figures who have went up for election over the years

They can do what they like on their own time, but "GAA's leading managers" is far from their own time.
They have no business using their positions, to push some outside agenda. And pat cox the arch me feiner and party jumper ffs, he's probably never even been to a gaa match, some people are too stupid to see when their being used.

That is what the headline in the independent said Cody,Gilroy etc didnt have anything to do with that.Steven Cluxton spoke at the recent science fair in Dublin about the importance of science and how it should be encouraged more in schools, does him being a GAA player mean he cant speak his mind anymore.Gilroy and Cody etc are entitled to speak their mind and support any cause they wish if they happen to be GAA players it shoudlnt make any difference. The GAA isnt endorsing the yes vote people who happen to be heavily involved in the GAA are endorsing it.Once they are not talking about the yes campaihgn in their capacity as GAA managers (i.e in pre match interviews)then their is absoulutely no issue.

Anything involving Pat the Bilderberger is best avoided....

I beg to differ.....
"Can I just emphasise the GAA involvement there, the great organisation in this country upon whom so much rests and who everybody TRUSTS, and I'm delighted so many individuals have come forward,"
Using their position fair and square.....
I didn't know stephen cluxton, made a speech at a recent science fair, maybe because he didn't go running to the media about it . Oh, and education has nothing to do with politics.

The campaign issued that statement not the GAA managers themselves.
Mickey Harte came out in support of a book promoting the non use of contraception does that mean the GAA are against the use of contraception.
Loads of GAA people have used their status to get them elected and nobody has a problem with it.This situation is no different.

Are you saying the statement was issued without the managers consent ? The have gone so far as to "emphasise" the GAA's involvement, if that is not using the association, then i don't know what is.
I don't remember any front page of the indo with, "tyrone manager says no to condoms", could you post it up pls ?
Just because people have cynically used their gaa spotlight to get elected previously, does not make it right.
Politics has no business in sport, especially something as divisive as a referendum, today was a bad day for the association.

GAA members are not forbidden from taking sides on any political issue. The GAA itself hasnt taken any sides. If GAA managers want to come out on the NO side they can aswell and I doubt anyone will have a problem with it.Where was your objection to all the GAA members who used their profile to get themselves elected over the years.Where was your objection to Eamonn Coughlan using his staus as an athlete to gte himself into the seanad.
Type Mickey Harte opposes contraception into google and you will see loads of references to him supporting a book outlining why contraception isnt a god thing and the constant mentioning of him being a GAA manager along with his support for the book
