Limerick take on Waterford in the Munster quarter final, in a replay of a league encounter in which Waterford came out the victors.

That night saw the referee a bit card happy in my oppinion and as a result Stephen Kelly was a huge loss to Limerick after he was given the second yellow. During the last 10 mins Waterford did excel and were very potent in attack.

Without John Galvin the championship won't be an easy journey for Limerick (although we enjoyed a surprisingly good run last year) but I reckon we should have enough for Waterford in this one.

Does anyone know of Johnny McCarthy's situation? I know he missed most of the league. Is he back with full squad training for championship yet?

Firstly Kelly fully deserved to be sent off, lucky it wasn't a strsight red for second yellow. I firmly believe he has talent but is more of a liability with the amount of frees he concedes. Limerick may have enough for Waterford but Clare really fancy their chances of making the Munster Final.

Would you come off it. If you think Kelly should have bee given a straight red for the second challenge then we may as well give up on the game!

Jaysus, I'd hate to put a foot wrong with you ref'in. It was a good strong tackle that may have warrented a yellow at a push (even though we're taking the physicality out of the game at that) but no was was it a straight red.

He is talented no doubt. He does track back a lot to give a dig out in defence but but I don't see the liability in him that you mentioned. His free taking needs a bit to be desired. I'd rather see a free be booted 20 feet wide than dropping short. A free that has distance has some chance, a free without distance has no chance. He tends to chip them, dare I say, like a rugby ball up and under.

Once the ground is hard Kelly and Lavin will resume their rolls as real engine room players, covering every square inch of the pitch. I just wonder who the main mid-field pairing will be for the championship.

Id say they will be lucky to get 1,500 at this. The interest that was there in Limerick for a few years is now gone and it will be back to the usual crew supporting them for the next number of years

Yeah, it's disappointing to see such small support for the footballers. In fact, during the league, it was annoying more so than disappointing to see a huge amount of supporters arriving for the double header only in time for the hurling.

Waterford and Clare will both fancy a cut off Limerick this year no doubt but I reckon at full strength (or even minus John Galvin) we can overturn that Waterford result. Clare are always a stiff test but if it's close going into the last 10 mins I'd fancy Limerick to kick on.

Should we make it to the final I'm sure some support will appear out of nowhere as always.

Gary Hurney will be a huge loss for Waterford. If Waterford play at 100% we could spring a surprise and we have no fear of Clare in the semi for a place in a munster final for the first time in 52 years.

Limerick are damned if we do, and by god we're damned if we don't by "hurling men". Very sad to see the lads being condemned at every turn by their own county men, even with the persistent failings of the hurlers.

I am hopeful that we will see another Munster Final this year. I'd be confident that we can overturn Waterford and Clare convincingly also. Tom Lee has returned to the panel after coming back from Australia, and Jim Donovan is back training aswell. This would be an established midfield pairing, which we were lacking in the league games this year. That news that Hurney is out is huge. That should take any potential sting out of the Deise.

Lads,

Am I right in saying if we beat Waterford, we have Clare at home?

If we get to Munster final we are also home to winners of cork and Kerry?

The team for Sunday week is one I am waiting eagerly to hear.

Not 100% evileye, but we will definitely face Cork at home in the Munster Final should we get there. Didn't we have home advantage against Kerry last year? We would be home to Clare also, I'm sure of it!

Last Clare game was at away, I think it was 2009 so we are at home this time if we beat Waterford.

Jim Donovan is struggling with the hamstring while Stephen Kelly has a knee injury but they should be ok. Fitness might be the issue as they haven't played a whole pile of football so far this year. Kelly's game is largely based on covering ground so we'll need him in tip top shape by Sunday week.

If we do get Jim fit, himself and Tom Lee would be a fairly descent mid-field pairing.

Hurney will be a big loss to Waterford but they've shown to be a good side all over the park in the last year or so. If Limerick are to win, I couldn't see it being comprehensive. I'd take a one point win any day of the week from this one.

How could u suggest playing both of them midfield if Tom lee is only back in the country and Jim Donovan has been injured all year??

Steven Kelly has been injured for last month also so I can't see how he is going to be in 'tip top' shape in 9 days time.

Forgot we played Kerry at home last year. Back to Killarney so if we make Munster final and if it's cork it's Gaelic grounds. Fingers crossed

Reading in the Leader there...€20 entry fee for the game, €15 for students. I think this reinforces the issue that is brainlessness with GAA suits. The footballers have enough trouble getting support, and this will not help at all.

Do u think €20 is unreasonable price to pay?

To see a first round championship match featuring two teams unlikely to be playing football in August?

Absolutely.

Considering inter county football is something that is frowned upon by lots of Limerick people, I think 20 beans is way too much in fairness. Any potential chance of a healthy crowd has been wiped out with that price. To put it into perspective, it cost me less to go to the Limerick v Dublin/Galway v Waterford double header in Thurles last year.

This is not a revelation, but people are now having to ration which inter county games they go to, due the fact that there isn't a plentiful supply of money with which to watch them. For first round of the championship, between two teams who wouldn't be given the time of day on national television unless Kerry or Cork are involved, to have to pay Munster Final price is a little ludicrous, in my personal opinion anyway.

I'm not sure what price u would consider reasonable but to me €20 is not expensive. Friends of mine are off to Poland for d summer and d average price of a ticket there is €125. A few years ago I heard reports of Ireland v new Zealand rugby international series [ a fancy name for a glorified challenge match ] priced at €90.

This argument comes up every year and it is like a broken record at this stage. There is no cheaper organisation than the gaa when it comes to ticket prices. People that constantly go on about this drive me mad and I am sure they just want to have a go at the organisation.

If you think it's too expensive, do us all a favour, stay at home!

Hear hear evileye. I try to make the same point every time this argument rears its head but it's futile around here.

According to Maurice Horan Tom Lee was given a fitness programme to stick to over in Oz in the last few months. He came on as a sub in a challenge match against Laois last week. I can't see him starting against Waterford but he should offer an option if we were to need fresh legs late on. Later in the year he should be a big boost.

Anyone know when the team will be named? Thursday night I presume?
