Your post doesn't really make sense...

A deposit for what?

I presume you have won an item and don't have paypal to pay for it. Most sellers only accept paypal. Bigger sellers will accept cards. Takes a while to set up paypal too so you better check with the seller to see what methods he will accept.

You are the winning bidder, therefore you pay the vendor what you agreed during the bidding process. There is an element of trust when using eBay. Only conduct the transaction via the website, do not conclude a deal through email. Where have you got this idea that you could pay a deposit?

If you want to sell something on eBay, how exactly does it work does anyone know? Do u have to give them a % of what u sell an item for?

Yes, it's all in the terms and conditions have a read!

Done Deal seems to be the way to go if you are just selling in ireland. Very popular. EBay if going international.

What did you buy Gus.Is it worth the hassle of travelling over to collect it and what happens if you are unhappy with the car when you arrive over after paying your deposit???

It's fairly complicated when you first sell something but it gets much easier after a few items.

You basically put up your ad which you can tart up for extra money but it costs very little for a basic ad. You give information in your ad about the item, pictures, specs, how you will deliver it, how much it will cost to deliver, where you will deliver.. etc etc.

People bid on your item in the timeframe you have set. The highest bidder at the end of auction is the winner. Ebay works by proxy bidding. (google it).

Generally the bidder will pay almost straight away and you will get their address to deliver it to.

Once you have confirmed payment, box it up and send it on with recorded delivery so the winner has to sign for the package. Cust out the fraud, which is rife on ebay!

Sometimes if you didn't specify the price of postage the item winner will ask you to send an invoice with the postage cost updated. It is all done through the ebay site.

Selling on ebay is easy and safe as long as you protect yourself.

Nowadays sellers cannot leave negative feedback for a buyer and ebay has kind of lost its way recently.

Ebay take about 10% of you sale and paypal another few %, just google it for confirmation.
