Amy Huberman loses the plot on Twitter as US sitcom goes ahead without her
By Ken Sweeney
Wednesday May 09 2012
AMY Huberman was sure she was going to star in a US sitcom. She tweeted her joy. Brian tweeted his delight. Celebrations were in the pipeline.
Then came the bad news. The sitcom was going ahead, alright. But she's not going to be in it.
This was real-life drama behind the scenes at the US television giant NBC.
The 31-year-old had played 'Dorothy', the ex-girlfriend of the main character in pilot sitcom 'Animal Practice', which followed a vet who loves animals but hates their owners.
Ms Huberman had been cast in the role at her first audition in US last April. She was overjoyed yesterday when the 'Hollywood Reporter' announced that NBC was to make 13 episodes of her new sitcom.
Among those celebrating was Irish rugby star husband Brian O'Driscoll. He tweeted: "Very proud of my wife @amyhuberman who's new show 'Animal Practice' has been picked up by NBC stateside. #toLA."
But within hours, Amy's dream of becoming a major US TV star was in tatters. She was was contacted by NBC bosses last night. They told her that while the pilot was being turned into a full series, she would not be in it.
"Amy was told this evening they are going forward with 'Animal Practice' but without her. Amy has been told she is not in it," her publicist Joanne Byne told the Irish Independent.
Just hours earlier the Dublin actress had been celebrating on the set of Comedy Central sitcom 'Threesome' in London after learning that NBC had decided to pick up the TV pilot for a full series. 'Holy crap' she had tweeted on hearing the news.
The Dublin actress had landed the role in the pilot earlier this year on a visit to LA which coincided with pilot season.
"Amy wasn't even in Los Angeles for pilot season, she was just over meeting potential US managers. The fact that she was cast for a pilot at her first US audition is incredible. The fact that she is not going to be in the series is a major disappointment but typical of pilot season and Amy was well aware that things like this could happen," said her spokeswoman.
Running from November to May each year, pilot season is when the five major US television networks cast and produce a slew of TV shows that could potentially air.
Pilot
The actress who will take over Ms Huberman's role in 'Animal Practice' is not yet known.
From Cabinteely in south Dublin, she first became known to TV viewers as Daisy O'Callaghan in RTE drama 'The Clinic'.
However she ditched her wholesome girl next door image last year to star in Comedy Central series 'Threesome' in which her character's bed-hopping ends in an unplanned pregnancy.
Last night Amy tweeted: "Thanks so much for all the lovely well wishes about the pilot guys! But I was only contracted for the pilot and I won't be doing the series."

Nowhere in this article is there any sign of her losing the plot. In fact I thought her tweet at the end, which was the only time she mentions not being in the show, was very dignified. Pointless thread really

That's the Indo trying to make a shocking story out of nothing.
Amy is a lovely girl and was very dignified about what must have been a shattering setback, which none of us would like to happen to any one dear to ourselves.

Exactly, where does she lose the plot.
What is this obsession with celebrities living their lives out in public? I thought facebook was fairly weird, but twitter is even worse.

Never paid much attention to her on the telly but I was standing in a queue beside her in Stephens Green shopping centre one day and I nearly lost the plot myself....
She is absolutely DYNAMITE.

Absolutely right and correct!
when in college i lived in the milltown / ranelagh area and when running the roads of an evening out round clonskeagh the bould Amy would be out doing something similar.
needless to say my 'route' changed to coincide with hers - a gorgeous girl who by all accounts is sound to boot.

It happens quiet a lot. Face was played by someone else in the pilot for the A-team with Dirk Benedict landing the role in the main series. Eric Stolz had shot a good few hours of tape for Back to the Future when he was axed in favour of Michael J. Fox. Lisa Kudrow had the role of Roz in Frazier until a few days into rehearsals.
The horse that played Mr. Ed in the pilot was replaced with a different horse in the main series.

Really? That's gas. She tweeted just the other day how much she was looking forward to reading your new book. Will you give us a taster so we can offer encouragement?

True, and the horse that was originally going to be in Sex and the city was replaced by Sarah Jessica Parker.

Stuart Townsend had the gig as Aaragorn in the LOTR trilogy.
Peter Jackson then realised he had cast the role too young and in stepped Viggo Mortenson.
