well folks, how do you think the championship attendance will hold up? I wouldnt be too confident. I am going to have a stab at a few of the bigger games
Roscommon v Galway = 9,500
Kerry v Tipp\Limerick v Tipp doubleheader = 19,000
Kilkenny v Dublin in Leinser hurling semi in Portlaoise = 12,000
Waterford v Clare in MHSF = 12,000
Armagh v Tyrone USFC = 10,000

Roscommon Leitrim last year had a crowd of about 10000 which was a massive crowd so you would expect Ros vs Galway would match that.
Apparently the GAA are planning to put a massive effort into marketing this years championship so hopefully that might help attendances

even with reduced ticket prices and a marketing campaign, it will be an uphill battle frasier.
petrol\diesel prices are nearly the biggest factor, also unemployment and reduced disposable income.

My guess would be that attendence will be way down and hence the big marketing drive already by the GAA.People are hurting right now and a family day out at a sporting event even the fact that it is real quality time is just not viable too many days in this climate.Maybe they should let all kids 12 and under in for free. This would be a win win for everyone me thinks as seats will be sitting there vacant anyway so why not create some good will all around

Twenty quid for a less-than-glamorous Munster senior football chanmpionship quarter final between Limerick and Waterford next week. It's no wonder there'll only be two men and a few dogs at it...

An adult ticket of 30 euro is a lot for Limerick v Tipp match, other sports are as bad if not worse bottom line lots of people are very strapped for cash...if i Go it will cost 75 euro for myself, wife & 3 kids ...40 petrol, add a program your at 120 euro before we buy a bottle of Orange or a bag of chips???.....
PS Lowest attendence of the year in the senior football champiuonship could well be Limerick v waterford in Football circa 3000

they should operate a buy 3 tickets get one free
would reduce the cost and encourage people to travel in groups. therefore allowed a few car passengers to have a drink
I don't think the GAA quite cop how tight money is for most families in rural Ireland

In fairness €30 for 2 senior championship matches isnt too bad. Tipp v Kerry (Football) and Tipp v Limerick. Maybe €25 would be more appropiate.
Cant people go to terrace if they cant afford €30.
They will prob drink the difference anyway and still complain about the cost of the ticket.

I certainly wont be drinking as i havent the price of it...30 Euro is a lot of money to some people maybe not you Eric...dont want to bring a wife & 3 young children to the terrace...
PS Other sports are worse even I'd be afraid to think how much it would cost for a husband & wife & 3 kids to sit in Thomand park for heineken cup not that i'd have any interest in going.

There has been a family ticket option available throught the clubs for last 5 years or so. Will work out at €40 combined for adult and 2 kids. Another option and very reasonable.

They piggy backed a football game that would have attracted nobody onto a hurling game that will attract some few in order to raise ticket prices.
Most Limerick hurling supporters are going for one match, and most Kerry football supporters are going for one match. Both are paying for two games.
I think we will have record lows this year. The Limerick faithful will keep the shillings for the minor game in Ennis, and the Under 21 game against Tipperary or Cork, and for the qualifiers. They wont pay €30 given that there is a risk of a massacre at Thurles. The massacre might not happen, but people wont risk the €30. If Limerick do the unthinkable, they will go to the Cork game in numbers allright

Resticting the family ticket option to only 2 kids is an absolute disgrace.

Paddypower have Tipp at 1/5 to win, and I've rarely seen a poor bookie, which says a lot about the appeal of this game.
There's a big gulf between the sides, which won't help to attract casual supporters.
Limerick fans are afraid to fork out to probably see a massacre, Tipp fans might be thinking of saving their money for the Munster final.
What's almost even worse to watch than a massacre, is when one team goes 6-8 points ahead early in the game and then just coasts along for the rest of the game.
With the back door, Tipp will at least have an All-Ireland quarter of semi to attend later in summer.
In the football, Kerry are 1/33 to beat Tipp. Again, not a very attractive pairing.
In fact, quite a large percentage of early championship games are more or less foregone conclusions.
Games that are likely to be closer affairs, such as Clare/Waterford (hurling),Galway/Roscommon (football) or Tyrone/Armagh (football) should have higher attendances
