Is it not a bit strange that there are no GAA championship games on this weekend? Giving the rugby an soccer free rein on the publicity front
Next weekend is chock-a-block with games. The Cavan v Donegal or Longford v Laois games should be today to kick off the championship proper (yes I know NY and sligo played last week)
and not only that, but there are two hurling games fixed in Leinster championship for Saturday. despite the beer cup final and champions league final
madness

It must be to do with allowing county boards time to play club matches

I think it is a bit strange in fairness, could they not have got 2 counties to switch their club weekend to next weekend instead?
And why was the Sligo-New York game last weekend rather than this weekend?
Would have been good coverage for GAA to have something on today.

Every year lads the same issue is raised about a slow start to the c'ship. Match in NY has to be on Bank Holiday weekend for obvious travel reasons - lads have work/college to get back to.
If there was county games today ye'd be giving out about no time to play club games - why not get out and take in some club games.

Its the climax of the Premier League. Gah grounds would have been empty today.

Down to the promotions machine again, we seem to kick ourselves around the place an awful lot. On Friday night at UL there was an evening of meet and greet for the public with management, players and officials present. The only problem was that the same night saw the first shots fired in both the senior and intermediate championships in Limerick. I know of no-one who went there.

The Christy Ring and what not were on Saturday past, but I supposed that doesn't count.
Down beat Meath, Wicklow beat Derry.
Both Down and Wicklow go straight into the semi-finals and will play the winners of London v Derry in one quarter final and Meath v Kildare in the other quarter final.

You beat me to it Johnney. After a woeful league campaign, it looks as if Down could win the Christy Ring this year at long last. Were you at Newry on Saturday? I thought it was Kerry's to lose this year but it loks to be between Down and Wicklow at the minute.

I didn't get over Bellshafted, but would know the manager very well. He wouldn't say as much but he knew this year was going to be a struggle as he'd had enough of lads with a bit of ability messing around, coming and going as they pleased last year and cut them adrift and decided to go with some very young lads unproven at club level, but willing to put the effort in. A lot of them are very slight in build and winter pitches weren't going to suit them.
relegation was always going to be a very real possibility and it happened, but according to a few of the lads the training is very well attended and they're getting that bit of luck you need once in a while. Still think Kildare and Wicklow would have a bigger say than Down ATM.

Yeah, I noticed there were quite a few 'mainlanders' on the panel but I thought that was due to boys off working elsewhere like Benny Ennis, and of course big Magic. I didn't realise Ger Monan had cut a few boys adrift. Hopefully Wicklow will draw Kildare in the semi and Paul Braniff stays injury free.
By the way, you aren't J McG, free-taker extraordinaire are you?

No, I wouldn't be as fond of the chips and would have been more inclined to give frees away that take them.
I can see how you'd make that connection though!
