Martinez would be an excellent choice for Villa. I don't think he is a big enough name for the Liverpool job and would encounter similar issues to Hodgson I'd say.

How anyone would even consider Curbishley is beyond me. How long is he out of the game now? There's probably a reason for that!
Martinez would hardly go there now having turned them down to stay with Wigan and finishing above them?
Serious rebuilding needs to be done, whoever takes the job. Lambert mightn't be a bad choice, or if Lerner was willing to stump up a few bob for players I wonder could he tempt Martin Jol (probably a step down for him atm, but Villa are a bigger club). Gus Poyet might be another, he seems to be highly rated anyway.

Not sure the likes of Rodgers or Martinez would go there at the moment. They might have their eyes on even bigger jobs than Villa in a couple of years and figure they might be better off staying where they are for now. At clubs where they have complete control.
Lambert I could see as a possibility alright.

No surprise to see McLeish get the chop. He was a truely dreadful appointment on the back of the equally poor decision to appoint Gerard Houllier last season. A big decision now for Lerner.
A club of Villa's size and with the problems they have will need an experienced hand and that would rule out Lambert and Martinez for me.
A lot of prospective managers thumbed their noses at the Villa job last summer and this on the back of O'Neill going so it would seem the problems are deep rooted in the club more so than soley with poor first team results.
Villa need a charismatic manager now as much as a good manager and leader. For too long now as a club they have been messing about with dross or managers from left field like Jo Venglos, Brian Little and Graham Taylor.

Villa fans are never happy with their managers. If they got Jose Mourinho with Pep Guardiola as his assistant within a few months they would have banners in the Holte End calling for their heads.

Well in fairness to Villa supporters they dont look for much. They have every right to expect better than Houllier and McLeish for instance.
Big Ron was not far of landing a league for them 20 years ago. How they would have developed as a club if he did would be anyones guess there after.

Why is Curbishley out of the game so long?? He was a decent manager, might not be a perfect fit for Villa, but would keep most teams up.

I think Villa fans want a bit more than just staying up.
