Promises to be a great competition this year considering the slew of young stars coming through in the major hurling counties. How do people expect it to go? Seems like everyone from Kilkenny through to Wexford have decent teams. I assume Galway are favourites with the bookies?

Limerick have to be in with a shout after their year last year and only loosing 4 players from the starting team. Cork and Tipp will be tough too.

kilkenny should be strong its the minor side 09,2010,that got to all irelands. Galway and Clare should also be strong if you go by the minor side that are at under 21 now.

How are Wexford's U-21s looking this year?

I'd say Cork are maybe 9th in terms of the country overall. Inferior to last year's side and built on three poor and successful Minor teams, we could beat Tipp possibly at home, although Sweetnam will be out, but I can't see going further then that. Hard to compete with the likes of Clare and Waterford at this grade when they've been hammering you at Minor level. As an aside I saw Waterford a month back and I thought they were excellent.

Anyway, the Cork team largely picks itself for the Tipp game it seems...

Nyhan

P.O'Brien/Rodgers/C.Spillane

P.O'Mahony/Cahalane/C.Joyce

D.O'Mahony/Drake

?/Lehane/Brosnan

Coughlan/?/Haughney

With Sweetnam out. No ballwinners there really, backs are ok though.

I would expect clare to get to the all ireland final after coming through a fiercely competitive munster championship. Clare seem to have loads on the county senior panel. How are the other counties doing in terms of senior players?

Cork have five, assuming Patrick O'Mahony isn't involved anymore.

I heard that our U21 team mentors are also managing the Intermediates but can't confirm. If it is the case then we should see our U21's get some game time before their July outing which will be of great benefit.

The Offaly minor team of 09 was absolutley rubbish so I was pleasantly surprised to see Offaly hammer Dublin in n U21 challenge match the morning of the drawn Dublin Galway league relegation playoff game.

it would be pleasently suprising if offaly had a decent u21 team as their display at this grade against dublin last year was truly aweful.

Waterford should be strong, the minors of 2009 won Munster so they should be a decent side. Been working away under Fergal Hartley, beat Cork in a recent challenge a few weeks back.

2 major things against them though: first round trip to Ennis is a tough match, knockout and no back door make it a tough do or die match. The second is the loss of Paudie Mahony. He would have been expected to lead the attack, probably the U21's best player so his loss is massive.

Should still be a decent team though, Darragh Fives, Stephen O'Keefe, Philip Mahony, Martin O'Neill, Jake Dillon, Gavin O'Brien, Jamie Barron all there to backbone the team. I'm sure there's a few obvious ones I've forgotten too!

I believe that Waterford will be going along these lines aswell and to be honest it's a great idea especially as you said it gets them more game time.Without wanting to start another debate about the Intermediate,it's the right thing to use this championship to blood these players instead of it being used as a "jolly boys"outing once a year.

The game between Clare and Waterford has the makings of a cracking game and will draw a hugh crowd to Ennis. It's a shame that these 2 are meeting so early in the competition as i think it would have made a brilliant Munster Final later on in the year.On paper Clare look extremely strong and will be very hard to beat in Ennis.

Brian O Halloran,John Dee,Ian Galgey,Eoin Madigan,Finan Murray, the 2 Prendergasts and Ray Barry are all hurling extremely well in their respective championships and i'd say will be in the mix come the Clare game aswell.

Limerick will probably be the team to beat in Munster. With the majority of last year's team a year older and wiser they will take a lot of stopping. Their forward line would make an impact in the senior grade never mind u21

Anyone heading to this, they'll be minus the Ballyea lads anyway, and Daire Keane

i doubt dublin were at anything near full strength for that game. they have 4\5 player to come off the under 21 football panel plus Danny Sutcliffe and Eamon Dillon off the senior hurling panel. Dubliner 2 or Sam mite be able to give a comment on dublin
