Dirk Kuyt has vented his frustration at no longer being a Liverpool first-team regular under Kenny Dalglish.

Reds boss Dalglish left the 31-year-old on the bench for large periods of the season, but Kuyt feels he is good enough to start every week.

"I'm under no illusion about playing every week. But I believe I am still good enough to play for Liverpool every week," he told The Sun.

"Under this manager I don't have the feeling any more that he will put me in the side every week."
-----------------------------------------------

An honest to God genuine tryer every time he plays, I always thought.

Is this the start of the players' grumblings against Daglish? Personally I think he was right to leave Kuyt on the bench-a trier alright but fairly limited. A decent squad player to have but not somebody you would want starting every week if you are chasing League Cup glory.

Form has definitely dipped this year. He's only 31 and was never a guy dependant on pace so should have a few more years at the top.

Not sure if legs feeling the effects of his high energy, give everything style of play, or is he just another player that Dalglish has not made good use of or has poorly managed.

When likes of Reina and Kuyt have poor seasons, the manager does come under scrutiny!

Has always been and still remains an important part of Dutch set-up.

His days are done, great servant, I suppose he is as unhappy as surely Valencia was not playing at City!

Big time although Valencia is a quality player who should be in the starting 11 whereas Kuyt is more of a squad player these days and has no right to expect a starting place. Valencia on the bench was a surprising and alarming act of cowardice from Fergie and one that ultimately cost United the title.

In fairness to Kuyt, anyone on the Liverpool bench this year would have been fairly frustrated at not getting a game ahead of the likes of Henderson and Downing. I read on F365 last night that Downing finished the season with 0 goals and 0 assists in the league. They are actually astounding stats for a winger-36 games, 72 shots on goal, 0 goals and 0 assists. That has to be some sort of record and one that will never be broken I'd say.

Whatever you think about the little diving fcuker Ashley Young, he has 6 goals and 7 assists from 25 games and yet some Liverpool fans will still try to tell you that Liverpool got the better deal. Downing is quite possibly a bigger waste of money than Andy Carroll who at least seems to be trying of late.

Yep disappointing alright, wouldn't lay all the blame at Downing's doors for the assists, I'd safely say that crap finishing was at fault for his lack of assists.

On the goals front, all comes with confidence in long run and his was shot to pieces. He is an ok player, good feet and pace, so should def have done better, but as season went on he attacked the right back less and less. People will say he wasn't worth the price tag, but if he had come at 10 mill, more would have expected of him anyway. One thing I didn't like was playing him on right wing.

Seems to be that Kuyt & Maxi are 2 that will be leaving over the summer, both high wage earners yet neither featured as 1st teamers this season, so its hard to see that changing as they get a year older.

Whatever about ability, Kuyt has always been the consumate professional, a lot of players young and old could do well to take a leaf out of his book.
Think there's a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for £1 million to a club outside England

Maxi wanted to return to Argentina last summer by all accounts to get 1st team football with hs old club, Newell Old Boys but was convinced to stay for 1 more season.

I can only ever see Rutger Hauer (the Hitcher) when I see him.

Like him as a player though, must be a nightmare to mark because of his running and has got a lot of late goals in games because of this.

Rumoured to be the dream pro in how he looks after himself off the pitch.

kuyt has been one of my fav players in last few years but i do think he has lost form and some of his misses this season have been horrendous. He peaked in 08-09 season. 12 lge goals n something like 13/14 assists. great foil for torres n gerrard at times.

time to move on but wish him all the best.

downing has been appalling this season, easily the worst of the buys imo. offers f all.

Can see him leaving Liverpool and putting down two or three more top seasons for another club. Has been a constant in the Dutch national team for almost a decade and they're not short of attacking options.

Dont mind perth..he just hides behind walls and plays with his +1s.....

Now...where is is written in stone you cant change a view on anything in soccer be it players over the course of a season etc. At least i dont hide from calling it as it is..unlike some others who still wont reconise both Young and Jones have been not a whole lot better than Liverpools much malighed Hendo and Dowing..you could throw a snickers between all 4 and you wount know which end to bite.........

If I was a Liverpool fan I would be delighted to see him gone. Good worker, came up with a few important goals on fairness to him but not good enough to do it on a consistent basis. How he is in the Dutch squad is baffling? A bit like Anderson or Park leaving United I would be pretty happy.

I thought his first touch was shocking when I first saw him as a striker. Benitez did a great job of converting him to a midfielder, a la Ray Kennedy. He seemed to accept the changed role well and his work rate was exemplary. Must have frustrated the hell out of him last season to be watching Downing, Henderson, etc from the sideline.

Excellent player. Dalglish never got the best out of him.
Wrong side of 30 but I'll bet the Dutch will use him quite a bit over the euro c'ships albeit perhaps not as a starter.
Downing, Henderson aside, Dalglish's failure to utilise Kuyt may be worst indictment of his modern management credentials.
