Croke Park is a terrible venue. Only 3 sides, bumpy pitch and poor facilities.

That surely cant be right. For Euro 2008, the stadiums in Vienna(final venue) and Basle were the largest at just under 50,000 capacity. All the others were around 30,000.

I'm not sure if there is a minimum as such but the policy seems to be to go with bids that have a large number of medium size stadiums as opposed to bids with a few large stadiums.

Surely to god Murrayfield would be big enough? They could hold games there if the SRU were willing to let it be used.

Murrayfield has 60000+. However I don't see how we will be able to contribute enough stadia. I don't think Gaa stadiums will cut it as International soccer grounds

If the GAA are approached on this one I hope they make a better job of it than the negotiations over Croke Park went last time the IRFU came with cap in hand.

Casement Park is to undergo a major redevelopment in the next couple of years. There is talk of it being a 40-50k all seater which would be perfect for the soccer. Its not controlled by the IFA so technically Northern Ireland wouldn't need to be given automatic qualification. Or the IFA could do the decent thing and wave their right to automatic qualification in order to help their celtic cousins!

Never thought of Murrayfield. When I was listing them I was just listing Football grounds, but yes you are right.

Why? The GAA fleeced the other sporting organisations for use of a taxpayer funded stadium.

What about PUiC? Will that not be ready in time?

Slightly off topic, but it will always be Lansdowne Road - never the Aviva.

Its the AVIVA because the tools in the FAI and IRFU need to reminded that they decided to sell the name of the ground to a foreign company that doesnt give two ----s about this country and ----ed off with themselves when the going got tough.

A lot more taxpayers money was given to the IRFU and FAI for the building of the AVIVA stadium.

Something Bressie and his fellow travellers decide to ignore, either because they can't admit the truth or because they are too thick to see the truth. You choose.

The money that the GAA got was badly spent anyway and that is the fault of the GAA itself.

The Aviva never had an embargo on other sports being played on it.

Pass no remarks on him Larkin. His comment on the England Squad thread will probably mean he'll get the door.

What is the point of the only one stadium per city rule? Seems a bit odd. If a city is big enough to handle crowds (hotels, transport, etc) I don't see what the problem is in having a couple of games going on.

By that logic if England were ever to get the Euros, they's only be able to use one stadium in London, which would be silly when you have Wembley, Emirates, WHL, Stamford at they're disposal. Likewise with OT and CoM in Manchester, both of which can hold 60k plus.

Landsdowne
Croker

Celtic
Ibrox
Hampden
Murrayfield

Millenium

All are 50k and up. So you would need to add/upgrade three more stadium.
I'm sure they could sweet talk SRU into using Murrayfield. Croke Park would be a problem with clashes with marquee GAA games, though a possible scheduling solution could be worked out.
