And in an Old Trafford double, boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been selected the Premier League's greatest manager.
The Premier League 20 Seasons Awards honour the players, managers and football that has taken place over the two decades.
Ferguson, 70, has steered United to 12 Premier League titles, the same number 38-year-old Giggs has won as a player.
Giggs beat off competition from team-mate Paul Scholes as well as former Arsenal players Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp to clinch the vote from a panel of experts.

Would agree with that and hard to argue against. He has been nothing short of phenonmal. A great player. Its another time and era when i saw him score that goal v Spurs on Match of the day at WHL back i think in 1992 and hes still going strong.

manager - no question obviously
player - depends really, over 20 years ya giggs wins for longevity and medals as well as ability but if they're loking for the best player to have played in that time he'd be down the list a bit.
Zola for one would be ahead

Alan Shearer accepted the award for Most Premier League Goals with 260, while David James received Most Premier League Clean Sheets with 173.
Who'd have thought 'Calamity' would nick that one?

Indeed. Giggs award is well earned in fairness.

James played in the Premier League for nearly 20 years, so it stands to reason he'd accumulative clean sheets.

Yeah, it should be a percentage of games, depending on a minimum of games to be eligible.

On a separate note, it seems Rio Ferdinand has been dropped from the England squad. Brave call from Hodgson, if he brings Terry. Will certainly lead to some conspiracy theories in the press.

I can understand Giggs getting this award as his longevity has been incredible and it has spanned the entire timeframe of the Premier League. However, I would still have reservations.
It is a fact that he has not been the best player in the league at any time in the past 20 years. In fact, he has not been the best Man Utd player at any time in those 20 years. When the Keane-Scholes-Beckham-Giggs midfield was in its prime, I don't think I would be alone in rating Giggs the least important of those four players. I could probably name 20 players over the past 20 years who, at their best, did more than Giggs ever did at his best. It is for longevity and consistency that no-one can touch him.

I totally agree Tinmar. If I could pick one player from the 20 years who I wouldn't want on the team that I was going to play against then it would be Roy Keane. Easily the most influential player in the premiership. When in his prime he was never substituted nor started on the bench, the same couldn't be said of Scholes or Giggs

I agree. Giggs was a very good player, Scholes and Keane were great players and while Beckham was overhyped by the media and should never have come near those two runner-up spots for the FIFA Player of the Year awards, in the premier league he was a phenomenal crosser of the ball and was better than Giggs most of the time when both were on the team (96-03) particularly when it came to assists.
I don't know who Giggs is sleeping it to win these awards! He also won player of the year in 2009 when he wasn't anywhere near the top 50 players that year.
I'd give best PL player to Henry - the no. and quality of the goals he scored and set up was incredible and not a hint of handball about any of them!

Very true - a born leader who inspired the rest of the team. Scholes and possibly Roy Keane could also possibly claim to be ahead of Giggs.
Likes of Bergkamp, Shearer, Henry or Zola also more gifted players but I guess Giggs got lots of points for longivity.
Robbie Fowler deserves mention for most waste of potential. If he had a manager like Ferguson or Wenger to guide him and knock some sense into him as he approached what should have been height of his career, he'd have been one of the all time greats.

Giggs' achievement in playing at this level for Man Utd for so long is extraordinary and so I can see the logic in giving him the award. It is just unusual that the 'best player of the last 20 years' was never anywhere near the best player at any one point during those 20 years.
I can remember back in 1994, I always thought Kanchelskis was a much more dangerous and effective player than Giggs. It is simply amazing that 18 years later Giggs is still performing at the highest level. That is his greatest achievement.

Dunno...Robbie used some of his potential i would have thought..is he not in the top 5 highest scorers in premiership history, hattricks, first player in the premiership and only i believe to hit 30plus goals for 3 consectutive seasons. Most natural finisher i saw in the premier league along with probably Henry and Shearer.

All true. His positioning, control and finishing were superb for a young player but at the end of the three seasons you mention above he was still only 22 years old and should have been approaching the prime of his career.
He had hangers on around him who didn't do him any good and he needed stronger managers than Evans and Houllier to keep him on the right path.

Well Giggs was hardly going to nick the awards for clean sheets, was he?
