Now being from Kilkenny I obviously wouldn't be the greatest on football but I thought these 3 looked pretty solid this weekend. I'd be interested in any thoughts:
Galway 8/15 at Roscommon
Laois 4/5 at Longford
Donegal 3/10 at Cavan
Which one will let me down or will they all? Looking at it I should have also added Limierick at 4/11 against Waterford maybe?

Donegal is the only one Id say is close to a sure thing, I wouldnt be having any of the others especially Laois at 4/5. I think Longford will take them in Pearse Park this year

Limerick have had a poor league and have lost some key players to injury that have set them back. They cant afford to have players injured as the squad wouldnt be very strong.
Longford after winning the league two years on the bounce and improving all the time.
Roscommon after a great U21 campaign and have some fine young players against a flaky enough Galway side who they will have no fear of.
Stay away from it.

Galway will beat Roscommon. The rest I wouldnt be sure of. If you go with tradition it would be Laois. If you go with form it would be Longford. I know a Longford man not given to exaggeration and he says they have 10 or 12 players that would make it with any county and he reckons they are as good as the Longford team that won a Leinster in the 60's.

Donegal will beat Cavan by as much as they want to.Cavan are so bad Offaly managed to beat them this yearm, and they have 5 players making theri debut on Sunday aswell.
I'd have Roscommon as slight favourites to beat Galway its going to be a very close game with no more than 3 or 4 points.
Longford should have beaten Laois last year in Portlaoise, they have been in excellent form this year whereas Laois have been in poor form. This match will give an indicatioon of whether it is better coming into the championship to be winning games in a lower divsion or losing ghames in a higher division.Longford have 3 Top Class forwards in Barden,McCormack and Kavanagh and Laois due to McNultys negative tactiocs dont look very sharp in the forward line.Longford have a good home record and should have just enough to win the game.Although they havent wion a game in Leisnter in 5 years so they are bound to get nervous the closer it gets to the end.Lack of confidence beat them last year and the same might happen again.I'd go Longford by a couple of points although a Laois win wouldnt surprise me either.

My pick would be:
Louth to beat Westmeath @ 10/11
Limerick to beat Waterford @ 1/3
Donegal to beat Cavan @ 2/7
Derry to beat London @ 4/9
Kildare to beat Meath @ 1/2
Antrim to beat Westmeath @ 2/7
Carlow to beat Laois @ 6/4
€5 accum @ PP pays €114

Limerick are always more geared for championship football, I would expect us to beat Waterford. We're waiting on the fitness of Stephen Kelly who would be our utility forward: frees, scoring from play, playmaking, ballwinning etc. and also Jim Donovan who would be our primary ball winning midfielder in the absence of John Galvin. If these two lads are fit and playing, I would be more at ease. We also have a fantastic full forward line of Ger Collins, Seamus Carroll and Ian Ryan who needs no introduction. All well capable of scoring freely and are goal threats aswell. The price of 4/11 is fair, but I wouldn't be expecting us to win by more than 4 points either.
I fancy the Rossies to beat Galway, who haven't beaten anyone bar New York in the Championship for 2 years. I also think Longford are the bet of the weekend at 6/4. Glenn Ryan will have them raring to go, and they have some awesome forwards as frasier pointed out, Barden, Kavanagh and McCormack would walk onto most if not all teams in the country. Donegal should take care of Cavan, Louth and Westmeath could be a tricky one now in light of the fact that Louth are missing a host of first choice players due to a multitude of reasons. With the game on in Drogheda, I'd give the edge to Fitzpatrick's men.

If I get near a bookies this weekend, I'll back the Rossies/Deise double. Get the ball rolling with a tenner.

One game i would stay a mile away from is Laois and Longford. Laois played their football in Div. 1 this year and so will have been facing stiffer tasks regardless of confidence taking a bashing!
Longford had a brilliant league and have some top notch players. Its easy to make a case for them winning this but to be honest id stay away from it - Laois will have learned more in getting hammered by Cork in the league than Longford will have learned in Div. 3 and as much as i think Longford could sneak this id stay away from it.
I can see sense in backing Donegal - they should have too much for Cavan despite the latter's recent 21 succeses.
As for Galway - depends which Galway shows up but either way the Rossies are going well in recent seasons and in Donie Shine have a matchwinner on any day.
Louth to beat Westmeath is a great bet!

Galway and Laois are far from pretty solid.

why not stay safe and back the antrim and laois hurlers both to win with boylsports at 11/10 on saturday. odds are prohibitive but better having a short price winner than a long odds looser!!!

If you're that badly stuck for a tenner, you can take on the bet. I think it's about 12/1. Galway aren't that good and Waterford aren't that bad, certainly when you consider their respective opponents; Tyrone and Kerry, they ain't.
