Big win for Ballduff.Ballygunner are in a bit of trouble as they have only 2 pts and have Passage,Lismore, and Abbeyside left to play which are by no means easy games. The loss of Shane and Brian O Sullivan won't help their cause either. If Passage were to beat Lismore on Sunday it would blow the group wide open.A lot to play for yet!

Ballygunner beat Abbeyside in the first group game. They have to play Lismore and Passage to finish the group and probably need to win both games to qualify.

I saw DLS hammer Mount Sion in the first game and I would have agreed with you then, they looked really impressive. But their defeat to Fourmilewater, apparently fairly comprehensively, has changed the situation. If DLS play to their potential then I think they will win the championship, but if they take their eye off the ball, as they did in the last round, then they could well be beaten by one of the other contenders.

As regards the game this evening, it was a real championship encounter, better than a lot of the knockout games last year. While the standard of hurling may have been lower than expected at times, the absolute intensity and desire of both teams was hugely impressive and produced a right battle of a game.

Ballyduff deserved the win, no doubt about it. Playing against a slight wind in the first half they managed to contain the Gunners forward line, in which Brian O'Sullivan was a constant threat, and played themselves into the game. They took over in the second half and with Stephen Molumphy leading the forward line, they put on the scores to win the game.

Major set back for Ballygunner and they are now faced with the situation of needing results against Lismore and Passage to ensure their place in the quarter finals. On the basis of the Dungarvan and Ballyduff matches, those results are far from certain. The Gunners are really missing Paudie Mahony, apart from Brian O'Sullivan who was always dangerous this evening, the forwards are struggling. With O'Sullivan heading off to the States and Mahony still injured, its hard to see them putting up enough scores to win their remaining games. Maybe Hartley who was a sub this evening could do a job at full forward.

BTW Some serious goal keeping displays by both O'Kkeefe and Power this evening, both produced saves of really high quality. And does anybody know how Tommy O'Sullivan blew up for the free in to Ballyduff when the corner forward was about to shoot for goal from 10 yards!

Not a clue. To be fair it was a fair achievement for Tommy to blow that free seen as he was 25miles away refing a game in Ballyduff.

It was Maurice Condon who reffed the Ballyduff Ballygunner game......

But to be serious it was an awful decision he should have played advantage. Id back Hannon to stick that one in the net any day.

Anyone know of whats going on in Mt Sion ? Apparent unrest rife there with , allegedly , a major blow up at training during the week . Losing to Fourmile this week would ensure a relegation battle that they wouldnt face with and confidence the things are going .

Are Walsh Park and Fraher Field the only venues capable of holding club games in Waterford?

Spacing out three games in Fraher Field Sunday with the Tipp V Limerick game on is strange.

Could they not all be held that evening in separate venues to try and maximise attendance figures?

Sundays games are all east v west , so thats the reason for Dungarvan . In mid county Kill and Kilmac well able to host club games , as is Carriganore ( WIT Campus ) , and Cappoquin / Lismore in the west , yet it is strange to do a double header against the Tipp v Lk game alright .

I stand corrected, it was indeed Condon who did last night's game. Sure Tommy wouldnt have blown it up!

Ballyduff wouldnt have been happy if the Gunners had sneaked a late equalising goal as they threatened to do.

Great game here tonight and credit to both teams for serving up a never say die full blooded championship game.Nothing like a local derby to set the pulse racing! Realistically Dungarvan could feel the more agrieved have led by 2 points in injury time but some nerves of steel shown by O Halloran for Abbeyside to land the last ditch 65 to level it in to the wind. Jamie Nagle rally stood out here, giving a masterful display at midfield for Dungarvan.

Was at both games in fraher field today. Mt Sion are in a spot of bother alright after this result and were not helped by the unfortunate injuries to some of their players during the week.Shane Walsh was on fire aswell as Jamie Barron and Diarmuid Wall seemed to be causing problems for the Mt Sion halfback line everytime he ran at them. They are a decent side and will be in the shake up at the business end of the championship barring they burn out being involved in the football aswell.Seamus Lawlor got through an amount of work at midfield and as a whole they are a big physical side that can hurl aswell.

The second game was exciting to say the least.Lismore lead by 9 pts with 11 mins left and ended up needing a long range free from Maurice Shanahan to scrape a draw for them.Eoin Kelly created havoc everytime the ball went in to the Lismore fullback line and if he didn't score himself he ended up being fouled and scored the resulting frees. He must have ended up with 2.08 at a guess.
For Lismore this will act as a serious wake-up call who for all intensive purposes had the game wrapped up only to take the foot off the gas.Paudie Prendergast was very good when switched to full forward, getting 2 good goals,Big Dan on an other day could of had 3 goals but to his credit he worked his socks off.Ray Barry at midfield was sheer class in everything he did, from his assists to his 3 pts from play and his workrate he was outstanding and a joy to watch.

Overall the games this weekend have been exciting enough,if not technically great, but at least with the results the way they've happened, have given all the teams a lot to play for in the remaining 2 fixtures which i imagine is what all clubs want.

There's still a kick in that mule alright. Ballygunner & Mt. Sion need to find a bit of something special soon.

I've no doubt that Ballygunner have another gear, but it is worrying for Mt. Sion at the moment as you have said before.

4mile look the team to beat so far.
