I'm not related to either of them; nor do I hold any grudges against your preferred candidates.
Nor to the best of my knowledge has Marty, or any family, friends, or associates ever paid me any money or done me any favours in return for my support

Marty showed himself to be true coward that day , it is understandably that Cody did not want to answer questions like that straight after an AI win, but it was a huge turning point in the match and Marty was right to ask the question, and as a professional sports broadcaster he should have stuck on that line of questioning until he got some answer out of Cody , but he meekly coward-ed away when Cody barked at him.

Cody let the mask slip that day alright.Hard to blame him I suppose as they had just been gifted the 4 in a row by the ref.

Bloody hell, Dan, it all seems so long ago now. How can time seem to go so fast in the middle of a recession!

Marty is an awful commentator- patronising and smug. The comments along the lines of "These Tipp footballers aren't half bad" last Sunday...

However, he is very good as a presenter on the radio on the Saturday sports programme.

I actually think that the biggest issue with "The Committee Room" was the tendency to reduce any issue to a soundbite here and a soundbite there with any attempt at in-depth discussion cut short.

Radio suits Marty's strengths because more in-depth discussions are developed and encouraged.

Obviously the RTE producers presume that the TV audience are dribbling idiots, incapable of absorbing anything more than a 30-second discussion.

For example, we got one sentence each on the Seanie Johnston issue last Sunday from Brolly and O'Rourke. Even as a Kildareman, I would have loved to see a good discussion about it but it didn't happen. TG4 have it right with Seo Spoirt.

Marty on a discussion programme could actually work if given the space on-air to allow discussions develop.

I wait for Thursday night with interest.

We really need a Soccer Saturday type show to be honest that starts at midday on a Sunday and runs to about 1.30 with the buildup to the 2pm match starting then.

All games and topical issues would get ample discussion time then.

I refuse to watch any production he's involved in, and if he's commentating i press the mute button.I see Colm Parkinson is now deemed a top GAA pundit. Can anyone explain to me how to hell this talentless hobo is bluffing his making fees from the state broadcaster, among others, for his opinions on anything?RTE is currently flogging GAA coverage to a slow death. The whole thing needs a colonic irrigation.

I watched it and it was not as bad as I expected it to be. I would not normally watch when I hear Marty is involved as he just annoys me but I gave it a go.
Plenty covered and it suits having it for a 30 min slot as it rattles along with no time for stupid idle talk or Marty's gurning.
Shown at a decent hour on a Thursday night and at least its more GAA coverage.

I think SLR means because it's not up on RTE Player yet, an awful hassle if you want to watch it straight away!

There was an interesting article in the Sunday Times Sports Section a few years ago which discussed the poor quality of GAA Magazine/Review shows. Apparently the GAA have a strong influence on these shows and they prefer dull shows like Championship Matters. They basically told RTE to axe Park Life. With the opening up of TV rights they now have even more sway over RTE and it is no surprise that came up with Championship Matters or the Committee Room to satisfy the GAA.

Have not seen this latest effort , but would not be surprised if the above were correct.

Like a lot of others I think breaking ball was by far RTE's best effort and indeed I thought it stood up well against any magazine show for any sport.

But I did hear somewhere that it was quite expensive to make with all the outside broadcasts etc , and this was the main reason it was axed.

It was very vanilla alright, but I didn't think it was that bad in all honesty. I like listening to Kieran Shannon, very insightful and intelligent. Cian Ward speaks very well, and Cassidy wasn't bad either. Marty was Marty, but it's what we've come to expect at this stage. He made an absolutely horrendous joke about Junior C hurling, it fell as flat as shaken 7Up. My one criticism really would be that it was far too short. You could tell the lads were aching to talk more about the Seanie Johnston saga, that could have taken up the 25 minutes by itself!

It was actually a decent show that avoided heading into the usual cliché ridden drivel that many shows have succumbed to in the past. This was mainly due to the fact that the panellists all spoke eloquently, particularly Cian Ward. At times in the past GAA supporters have been treated as if they are the epitome of the village idiot, such has been the dirge that has been thrown at them when it comes to GAA magazine shows.

Marty does have a tendency at times to enter a world where controversy is to be avoided, replaced instead by non threatening exchanges, bringing the GAA viewer into a world of inanity which can drag the life out of any serious or intelligent discussion.

However, last night was a definite break from this - but as I said, this was down to the quality of the panel. Whether RTE can keep this up for the remainder of the season is open to question.

But at least they are trying - the piece with Dan Shanahan reporting on the Waterford footballers' contest with Limerick was a brave move, even though Dan may have shown that he won't be taking over Michael Lyster's gig any time soon (but at least he tried).

It has long been a bone of contention that while soccer and rugby, rightfully, have decent and professional presentations when it comes to their sports being shown on RTE, GAA has been somewhat left behind in the lurch.

Hopefully last night's show indicates that GAA viewers will be treated as having some modicum of intelligence - the competition from Newstalk in particular, and also TV3, is forcing RTE to up its game.

Which can only be a good thing for GAA followers in the long run...

Actually thought it was ok this week.

The debate about Seanie Johnston was interesting, could have spent the half hour talking about that subject alone. Shannon is excellent, knows his stuff and makes his point well. Cian Ward was decent too.

Marty Morrissey is by far and away the strangest looking human being I've come across.

Can't stand his commentary either.
