Across all social divides, I am hearing a clear lead for the NO side by at least 2:1. However, the official polls are indicating a 10 - 15 point lead for the YES side.
Just watched the week in politics on RTE1 there and noticed a number of things:
1. Almost poking fun at the NO campaigners
2. Consistently talking about the topic of Sinn Fein directly after discussing the NO side. My belief is that if they tie the NO vote to Sinn Fein vote, this will damage the no vote.
3. If there was a No vote and Ireland were unable to access funds, the hugely paid employees of RTE would suffer big time. Not only would they lose their enormous salaries, but their enormous pensions would be also gone.
4. The enormous pay and pension benefits of Bertie, Pat Rabbitte, Brian Cowen, Pee Flynn, etc... would not be paid as the funds would not be available.
I am currently of the mindset that a default of some form would be good for this country. The working people would not be affected but the free loading politicians and overpaid RTE staff would have to take a big cut.
This would be a good thing. Perhaps we could start again and have a system whereby the Irish people an get their country back.

If John Allen is voting NO would that make him acceptable?
Agree with many of your points actually but people will vote yes by a wide margin because the billionaires control governments and media.

Of course they are. Samson's power circles tell us the media and the rich have the most influence. Therefore as the wealthy will benefit from a Yes vote they influence the media who in turn do the bidding of the rich for them. Voting yes is in the interests of both parties so the media champion the cause

Have to agree. Seems to be about 3 or 4 to 1 ratio in favour of no voters from the people I meet so don't understand where these polls are at. Are they exclusively taken in Killiney and Dalkey by any chance?

I don't think there is any poll rigging going on. I suspect a lot of people are saying No in the pub but Yes in private.
You can't really judge by asking your friends. Your friends probably have a strong bias towards your views because they are the same age, social background etc. If you were a banker from Foxrock and asked all your mates how they were voting, you would probably get a strong yes.
One thing that could happen is a shift in votes because of the polls...a lot of people are voting Yes reluctantly but maybe would like to see it being a close result to keep everyone on their toes. If they think the vote is going to be a strong Yes as the polls suggest, some might switch to No.

I think I remember (I stand to be corrected on this), but there used to be a law before that forced to amount of money being spent on both sides in a referendum must be the same.
The logic being that both views get a fair airing, and people can make up their minds.
This law was repealed after Nice 1, and meant that if one side had the most funds they could simply get their message out more. Corporate donations were also made, and I think that the spend on the Yes vote for Nice 2 was four or five times the amount of the No vote, and of course the treaty was passed.
For some reason I seem to recall Noel Dempsey being the Minister who repealed it.
I don't watch enough RTE to know id they are being impartial or not, but when leading presenters such as Mirium O'Callaghan, Ryan Tubridy etc. have close ties to Fianna Fail they leave themselves open to doubt.
