This will be a very interesting game. Wexford's recent results read better than Offaly's. But on the other side of it, Offaly have a serious full forward line if supplied.

That is a decent Offaly team.
Is Eoin Ryan far off the mark?

good side pity Paul Cleary and Dylan Hayden of Birr are out hurt but there is a good forward line their.
Eoin Ryan is not in with offaly seniors he is still a bit young
maybe we will see him next year in the league.

I only saw the Limerick - Offaly game in the league and I was fairly disappointed with them, but Offaly usually step up when championship comes round and I'd expect them to put away Wexford to be honest. That said, I haven't been following Wexford's challenge results, anyone know how they've been doing. Limerick beat Offaly by a 5 points a few weeks ago in a poor enough game and Kilkenny of course hockeyed them.

Although both counties seem to be going through hard times on the hurling front , this game could have the makings of a good competitive one , I think RTE are covering it Saturday evening.
Both teams should fancy themselves to go through , although a little anomaly of the qualifier system means that the loser on Saturday night will probably go further in the championship than the winner, unless of course the winner causes an upset against Galway.
I reckon Offaly should squeeze through by a couple of points.

That is a very good side on paper. All 6 backs are quality operators and could hold their own against most forward lines.
However, I think midfield is a bit weak.
I recognise 5 of those forwards, I must admit I don't know much about Egan. Parlon is a tad slow IMO but a lovely sticksman, Carroll has buckets of talent but struggles to ignite regularly enough while Dooley (especially), Bergin & Murphy are recognised performers at the top level.

If theres one team that the boys south of the border down Wexico way generally do well against its Offaly. A couple of those forwards didnt produce when push came to shove with Coolderry. I'd be inclined towards the Wexicans.

That is a good Offaly side hard to complain about it.Its disappointing that Dylan Hayden and Paul Cleary arent avalable as those 2 would have given us good options.when is the last time Cleary played for Offaly is feels like its been about 2 years he must be cursed with injuries.Derek Morkan is out of position in the corner he is an outstanding wing back but the one time I saw him play in the full back line for Offaly Ryan O'Dwyer gave him a roasting.Sean Ryan coming off the bench will be serious test for Wexford he has savage pace and has a good eye for a score. We've go two excellent ball winners in the half forward line in egan and Bergin (I wonder will bergin stay their or will he go into the full forward line).Joe Bergins positioning is usually a catch 22 for Offaly he is a brilliant full forward on his day and a great target man however we need him in the half forward line in order for us to win ball to povide the full fiorward line which in my opinion becomes weaker without him in it.

If this Offaly team can't win this fixture we may give up. With little coming through from minor I feel that after the next year or two Offaly hurling will go even further into decline.
This is a mature team that has been together a number of years. If they are not hungry for this one after a number of close shave to wexford in recent years they should have a long look at themselves.
I believe that the team should be physically well prepared in the mould of Baker himself.
There is a nice mix in the forwards of lads who can take a score and lads who will work hard.
Anything less that a victory would be depressing

Amazed to read this morning that it has been 12 years since Offaly beat Wexford in a championship match , this should change tomorrow night.

Remember when he got the job first Liam Dunne was dropping hints(well more actually just saying it) that some of the players that had been there a long time should remove themselves from the panel as he was going to drop them anyway, did he drop any of them in the end?

Dooley feels Tullamore factor can prove crucial for Faithful
OFFALY have to go back 12 years for their last championship win over Wexford and Faithful star Shane Dooley insists the midlanders "owe them one" ahead of tomorrow night's renewal (throw-in 7.0).
In their last meeting in 2009, the Slaneysiders made home advantage count when recording a seven-point win, but this game marks the first time Offaly face Wexford in the championship on their own turf, despite some 33 meetings in the provincial championship to date.
Previous clashes have been settled at either Croke Park or Nowlan Park before the home and away agreement came into effect late in the last decade.
For some, however, Tullamore is a home away from home for Offaly hurling. Despite the excellent facilities in O'Connor Park, some Offaly supporters still insist the Faithful should play their home matches in Birr, close to the spiritual heartland of hurling in the county, but Dooley insists that playing in Tullamore can work to their benefit.
"To be honest, I can't remember hurling in Birr," Dooley said. "The fact that it's in Tullamore is a bonus for me anyway. It's still our home pitch at the minute and we're going to treat it that way.
underestimate
"Wexford Park was their home pitch the last day and it worked for them. Hopefully, it will work in our favour this time.
"For us, we haven't really won a big game in Leinster in the last few years, so it's huge for us. You couldn't underestimate how big it is for us.
"We're going to be giving it everything. I've played once against them and they got one over on us and beat us well that day. We'll be looking for one back on them."
Tomorrow's clash also marks championship bows for Wexford manager Liam Dunne and Offaly boss Ollie Baker.
The Model men enjoyed the upper hand in their league clash in the spring when they came from nine points down in the final few minutes to nick a win in Wexford Park to continue their dominance of this fixture in recent years and Dooley maintains there'll be no excuses if they don't turn the tables in this encounter.
"I'd see it as a good rivalry between ourselves and Wexford down through the years. They've had the upper hand for the last while, but, hopefully, this will change on Saturday," he said.
"Things have gone well -- we're happy enough. There's always a bit of a difference in years when a new manager comes in, but things are going well."

Always thought Wexford were going to be up against it in tonights match, Wexford are very much at the start of a building process, Offaly are ahead of them at this stage and have home advantage to boot.
Additionally ive just noticed John Sexton is reffing this game so i would advise to lump on Offaly as a sure bet for this evenings game.
