Me and the wife are off to Ayia Napa next week with another 2 couples.
We are in our early to mid thirties and I was looking for advice on where is good to eat, drink and visit.
Also looking to know where to avoid.
We are going for a friend's birthday and didn't pick the location. My fear is that it is full of Brit army squaddies and drugged up clubbing types.
Thoughts?

Never went there - it had a massive Garage and RnB scene which I have no interest in whatsoever. Ibiza was and still is my distination of choice for the house and dance scene.
I know a few lads that went to Ayia Napa and they dodnt have anything bad to say about the place. Not sure the same Garaga scene exists there now as did say ten years ago (same could be argued with the club scene in Ibiza) but then again dont know.
Yeah, you'll come across squaddies there but no more nor no less than anywhere else. If you said you were going to Faliraki or somewhere like that I'd tell you to stay as far away from the place as it tends to attract the worst form of scvmbag with cheap holidays and cheap booze. Also was a no go destination for Irish going back ten years ago.
Drugged up clubbing types? Bloody hell, you sound a bit like nurofen. Give me drugged up clubbers any day over p1ssed up louts.

Ayia Napa is great craic, Its the same as all the rest of them clubbing holiday Islands except its hotter then the rest of them. You will get drugged up clubbing types and lads who are drunk as lords over there same as every other clubbing holiday destination. Not sure if the British squadies do be around, Im sure they were banned from coming into the strip after a massive row with the locals 3 or 4 years ago.

I went there with the missus last year, had a great holiday, There are two sides to Ayia Napa, quiet relaxing side on the outskirts of the Town centre eg Nissi Beach etc... and then you have the madness that is the main clubbing section, (up the hill in the town centre ) Just take it as it comes and enjoy. There is a pretty nice water park just outside the town aswell, worth a visit.

Haha. Drugged up clubbing types sounds like my stag to Ibiza last year.
We had hired a villa so we did not annoy others with our late night / early morning parties.
This time we are stuck in a cheap hotel (18-30) and I don't fancy having to listen to music / rubbish being talked 24/7.
I would have preferred Ibiza but this one was not my gig to call as one of mate's girl is a northern presbyterian and is a 'down with that sort of thing' type.
She suspected there was too much fun to be had in Ibiza..

Cheers for the info on Napa. Think I am just pi**ed of about going there and not Ibiza.
Hopefully should work out alright.

It will probably be difficult to avoid the Brit army squaddies, from Akrotiri and Dhekelia, only consolation is you will probably hear them before you encounter them, they aren't really welcomed in many of the tourist areas but difficult to keep them out.

Going to Ibiza with the Mrs for a week in August, booked it the other night. Leaving the little in Ireland with his grandmother. We really need the break from everything. We're bot mid 30s but Ibiza has something for everyone, meet all sorts, all ages overr there, heaven on earth as far as I'm concerned. The first time I ever went there was on a stag party - we were there less than 48 hours and I still rate it as the best holiday I ever had.

My stag lasted 5 days and I can probably remember 3 tops.
I had the best time but would like to go back and have a decent mix of drinking / clubbing and also getting out of San Antonio to see a bit of the rest of the island.
Defintely the best holiday I ever had and I can say that as my missus doesn't come on here.

Maybe next year I sahll return....

We usually stay in San An - though in the bay area, not in the town. We'd rarely go into the town, only been out in the west end once or twice. San An is lively enough and cheap and has a lot of things going for it such as the sunset and 2 of the cheaper clubs in Eden and Es Paradis. Plus good pre-club bars like Itaca and BN3 further along the Bay. Ibiza town is a totally different buzz - you dont get any of the chavs as such, very lively but expensive enough to go drinking in. Pacha is the only big club left in the two itself. Down along Play den Bossa you have Space and Bora Bora, heading towards the airport. And DC10 (never been but going to Circo Loco the Monday after we get there) which is an old airport hangar at the end of the runway. Half way between Ibiza Town and San An sort of in the middle of nowhere on the motorway you have Amnesia and Privilege. Privilese is absolutely massive.
Have never been to the north of the island but planning to do that this time round. Much more laid back up there, loads of hippies selling stuff etc.

been to ayia napa a couple of times (one summer working there). also been to ibiza good few times. prefer napa, marginally.
food- love my food. best restaurant in town is "Clarabel". steak there is amazing, best i've tried.
places to go during the day. Cape Greko- beautiful spot few miles outside the town, great for diving, snorkelling and unbeleivable sunset.
Also try napa's neighbouring towns like protaras.

going out wise- much different to ibiza....the casual scene is far far better as in the strip, better bars, clubs and atmosphere. however it only has the one super club in the castle club.

There is a huge mix of music and places to cater for everyones needs.

Get down to nissi for one of the bigger daytime beach parties and set up your stall near the bar.

Which one is best for getting your end away? Ayia Napa or Ibiza?

If you couldnt score in Ibiza there'd have to be something wrong with you.

Went on a tour in Ayia Napa a few years ago. Consulted my travelogue which mentioned the early Byzantine church of St Napa, the Milosian excavations, the ruins of a Venetian fort, the Temple of Aphrodite and the Ottoman fortifications. Seemed to be a very popular spot, particularly with younger archaeologists who were entering into the Bacchanlian spirit of ancient Greece, sampling the local vintages, participating in tribal dancing on sites of Hellenistic era temples, engaging in fertility rites under the rising sun, adorning themselves with classical motifs etc.

Some of the older chaps in the party were reluctant to enter into the spirit of the occasion but I must admit I rather let the hair down after one or two youngs bucks persuaded me to take part in ancient smoking and bead-ingesting ceremonies that they were recreating in a night temple dedicated to the Vestal Virgins.

Now you're talking. Best places for Round the House music. Mind the drugged up tranvestite dressers though - particularly if you want to get your way in the end.
