DUBLIN (SFC v Louth)
1. Stephen Cluxton
2. Philly McMahon 3. Rory O’Carroll 4. Michael Fitz
5. James McCarthy 6. Ger Brennan 7. Kevin Nolan
8. Eamon Fennell 9. Michael Darragh Macauley
10. Bryan Cullen [capt] 11. Alan Brogan 12. Paul Flynn
13. Diarmuid Connolly 14. Kevin McManamon 15. Bernard Brogan
On paper looks like a very strong team but not a lot of inter county football under the belts of a good few of them this year. And no new faces from the U21s, or some who played throughout the league. I think we might miss Denis Bastick in midfield againt Keenan. But, once again should be an interesting day out and see where Dublin's heads are for the year ahead.

How Eamon Fennell is still on the panel, never mind the team, is utterly beyond me. He was useless last year, useless for Vincents vs Plunketts in the championship and I believe he was cleaned out last week against Judes in this year's championship.
I never thought I'd say it but Bastick will be badly missed now that he's got his temper in check.
Dublin won an All Ireland without much of a midfield last year. I cannot see any way we can do it again if we're looking at the likes of Fennell starting.

He won the throw in against Donaghy after Ger pushed Donaghy in the face.
If we had not one that throw in we would not have won the All-Ireland

He didn't win the throw, he basically stopped Donaghy catching it cleanly. The hop ball was around Dublin 45, the nature of the game now meant Dublin had about 10 lads around the throw in , Kerry a couple. All Fennell had to do was break the ball, the odds then favoured Dublin on winning it.

It was just short of the dublin 65, he tapped the ball back to Brogan. Who else would have prevented Donaghy catching the ball? Without Fennell, Billy John Keane would never have tripped up McMenamin

Have to agree. I wouldnt have Fennell in the team either. Also agree about Bastick, I didnt think I would say two years ago but I would have him down as our main midfielder now.
Surprised that O'Sullivan isnt starting but then there is strong claims for all the defenders playing so someone was going to miss out.
Would like to see Emmet O'Conghaile get some game time on the weekend also.

Tallaghtdub, I think O'Sullivan is out injured. He is certainly one I'd start if fit.

In essence the G.A.A. have not reduced prices to levels that might attract people to games, especially ones where the result is all but certain. Some of us will be heading to Tullamore as well which is more expense. It's also a bank holiday weekend with a lot of people away.

35k is a pretty good crowd for a first roud match which is expected by most to be fairly one side.Dublin played Offaly in 2001 in a Leinster Semi Final and there were only just over 30,000 at it.

hmmm i remember Dublin playing Louth at a similar stage in 08 I think it was and there was a much healthier crowd. Prices, bank holdiday and even the F1 cars in Dublin on Sunday all contributing factors I suppose but regardless I would of expected the All Ireland win to of boosted numbers regardless. I suppose you could point the figure at Louth, Wexford and Longford fans too but they're the ones who have to travel and arent experiencing a football boom like Dublin are now.

I'd agree with D2. Why was it not possible to have the Dublin hurlers and Footballers in Croke Park on the Sunday, or even the Saturday? If needed the Wexford game could have been moved to Portlaoise??

why should Dublin get all there games in croke park to suite them, why should laois have to travel to croker sure half of Dublin are living in the midlands anyway and won't have far to go.

there will hardly be 4,000 people in croke park for longford and wexford. the dubs and louth fans wont be in for that game as there is a hour between both games to allow show fire brigade band exhibition.
The Longford v wexford game would have a bigger crowd and better atmosphere at Pearse Pk or Wexford Park and croke park would have a bigger crowd with a dublin double header. The only problem with the dublin double header would be that Laois might have a problem agreeing to it. then again maybe they would welcome a game in croke park. I d have gone with the dubs double header in croke with the long\wex game played at pearse pk or wex park

not surprised at the expected low attendance. Maybe the league spring series affects attendances at championship games like this also. I cant see a full house for the dubs until the leinster final where dublin will surely be meeting Kildare and if its not Kildare its likely to be Meath.

Sick of this dumbass comment. It suits the G.A.A., not Dublin as they'll make more money.
You might remember that the reason the G.A.A. is in such a healthy financial state is because between 2003 and 2008 approx Dublin footballers were close to or did sell out Croke PArk every time they played there.
If you don't want the money sure throw it on in Portlaoise. Or Dorgheda. Or wherever.

Dublin don't watch the hurlers which is a pity, last years game again offaly was a brutal turn out and that was just a few weeks after winning the league so their would be no one in croker to watch Dublin hurling as a stand out game.

Wexford hurlers are playing in Tullamore on Saturday, the Wexford footballers are playing Croke Park on Sunday. They are being severely inconvenienced by the GAA fixture planning as dual fans have 2 sizeable journeys to make in the space of 2 days

Well fraiser, that's my point really - if the hurling and football are on the same weekend they should double up where reasaonable to have just one trip for the fans of those "dual" counties.
Anyway, lets hope we see some good action on the pitches at the weekend to get the interest going again......

Poor decision by the ref.Great shoulder by James McCarthy was punished by the ref awarding a free to Louth
