A registered letter was sent from Galway to Dublin on Wednesday and it still has not delivered and I have checked the tracking number and it says they tried to deliver it twice but they could not have because I had someone waiting for it on both days and no undelivered docket was left either....Rant over...

In work we have had packages from DHL and TNT that were supposed to leave London and arrive in Dublin but somehow they ended up in Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam and Shanghai.Sometimes the post used to go from London to Brussells and then back to Dublin from Brussells

Our local postman used to deliver to the rich side of the town early in the morning. He would then take a 3-4 hour break to go look after his farm and then go deliver to the council houses around 6 in the evening figuring that they wouldn't be waiting on anything important anyway.

I know they say the standard of education in the States isn't the best but that really takes the biscuit

Some people in business send dud letters to themselves every so often to test the system.
All I can say is that I rarely send an application for a teaching job by ordinary post. Its nearly always swiftpost which is expensive but too many people I know have got caught in that it didnt arrive before the deadline.

A little up date lads. I was told to go down to the sorting office in fairview today even though it is closed on saturdays. There was four lads there doing nothing. One basically accused me of lying that it would only be attempted to be delivered once and then I showed him the tracking on my phone that said it was attempted twice and was still on route to customer.
In fairness then one lad said that is bizarre. I will check it for you now. They checked the system and then rang the postman who said he never had any post for me in the last few days. Then they told me straight out that they really do not know where my post is. The reason I posted it by registered post was of insurance and because I would not get home this weekend and I am heading to Poland next week. What was in the post was my tickets for the match in Poland and I know it sounds stupid of me but you would think registered post would be safe. I really think they have been knicked...

You need to disguise anything like tickets in an envelope to ensure they remain undetected.

I doubt they were nicked lad, relax, how would anyone know what was inside? Registered post will turn up.
I know you're frustrated at the moment but An Post are one of the best in Europe if not the world. Of course things will go wrong from time to time.
Ye should check out the postal systems in Italy or France! Joke altogether.

Got onto friend in An Post about this. Advice was to ring 1850 575859 ( customer services ) and DON'T HANG UP until it has been traced. If necessary, insist on speaking to customer services manager, if still not satisfied, insist on speaking to CEO, hold threat of major media exposure (not just AFR !) over them. Friend says you must be determined, but you should get a result one way or the other.

I have always thought the exact opposite about An Post.....
I have received mail with grossly inaccurate addresses , often with hand marked corrections or suggestions input by post masters/ mistresses as the mail made its way around counrty/ county trying to find me......in other postal services I woudl have been goosed......a single digit wrong on a post code is enough to divert a letter to the dead mail centre in most nations....
Also you must accept that some packages will go missing and that packages travelling internationally via multiple postal services can go missing at any point in their journey

At Christmas the post sorting office check the kids letters to Santa. The found one as follows
"Dear Santa, Please send me 100 dollars. It is not for me but I need the money to take a trip with Mom to visit my Grandma in hospital in Florida. She is very sick in hospital and hasnt long to live.
We have very little money since Dad was killed in Iraq.
Regards
Johnny"
The patriotic postal staff were very touched by the letter and made a collection for Johnny and raised 80 dollars which they sent to Johnny in a letter signed Santa.
Later the postal staff found Johnnys thank you letter to Santa which went as follows.
"Dear Santa,
Thank you very much for the money. But I only received 80 dollars. Mom reckons those +++s down in the post sorting office stole the other 20 dollars.
Regards
Johnny"

I am going down again to fairview first thing in the morning before work and if I do not get the answers I want then I will definitely will be going to the media. I do not agree with you roberto jordan that you have to accept that packages go missing. When there is tracking on the item then this should not happen. That is like saying, you have to accept that the odd time someone might steal your post.

I do sympathise with your story
Packages should not go missing and you do not have to be happy about it. Also it is obviously suspicious when said package is tickets rather than an ESB bill....however even DHL and co lose the occasional document and package, despite charging several 10's of what postal services do.
This does not make an post the worst service in the world.neither do I find it particularly newsworthy.....but then again i don't buy tabloids.....
It is unacceptable but a known risk.
Disclaimer: I nor none of my immediate family or friends Work or have worked for an post/royal mail/ us post/ fedex / DHL or the
pony express !!!!!

Any story with a link to the Euro 2012 is going to be newsworthy over the next few weeks , especially hard luck stories of missing tickets etc.

Anybody else think this story may well be made up? Sure as soon this gets into the media you will have companies falling over themselves to give him 2 tickets for the match. Bit of good publicity for them and all that and Paddy gets himself 2 freebie tickets. Good work Paddy, I like your style
