What are the best hurleys to get? I have broken 4 so far this year and the best part of 5 last year. Its fairly annoying. I had three torpey hurleys that I liked but I think they're made of biscuits. I broke both of them right in the middle.
I thought about using the Cultec hurleys but tried one the other day at training and didnt like it at all.
Its pretty hard to find a hurley you like. Anyone any idea what would be the best to buy? Cheers lads.

Bought a Cultec hurley today.
Pucked with one recently and didnt like it, but I am already getting used to my own. They take a bit of time to get used to but the beauty of them is, if you break one, you have a perfect replacement that you dont need to get used to again.
No more bad hurleys.

Cant stand Torpeys, expecially the machine made ones, Just don't like the timber above the Bas. I always found them to be 'boardy'
Prefer the ones from Kilkenny or Wexford.
Everyone is different and has their own preference.

I actually think they're a nice hurley Quadrupole H, its just they are not that strong. I broke my torpey last week as I said right in the middle, but it was just too eaily done. I blocked a lad down on the bas and half the hurley came off!
Anyone any ideas where I can get stronger hurleys?

The problem lies in going back to using ash hurleys after using the Cultec ones. It's almost impossible to mis**t a ball using a cultec stick which makes you mis**t the sliotar more when you go back to using regular ones.

A friend of mine was telling me that the Torpey hurley is only good for batin cattle.
Anyone confirm this?
I havent hurled in 10 odd years myself and cant remember what i used.
Is the Cultec any use lads?

I would think the complete opposite. This Clare team isnt cut out for that kind of a game. And Waterford arent much different. I expect a game similar to Waterford v Limerick last year. High scoring and free flowing

Saw some lads pucking around with O'Connor hurleys on beach in Ballybunion last Friday. I had never seen their hurlies before but was amazed by the size\shape of the bas, unusual shape and pretty big. I'm finished hurling a few years now so dunno if all hurlies are made that way now. BTW They were not goalie hurleys.

Why would you go back though if you had got used to the Cultec???
Its equally hard to go back using a bad ash hurley after using a really good ash one.

Ya, O'Connor hurleys do have very big round bas but these are becoming very popular now and you'd see a other hurley makers copying these too particularly around Cork

Just watching a repeat of the Offaly/Wexford there. Diarmaid Horan, the Offaly number 7 (Green Helmet), used a Cultec Hurley in this game.
Given the conditions, Horan seems to have a very sweet strike of the ball in the game, finding further distance while striking on the run than any other player.
Was also at a junior b game at the weekend, where I saw a limited player score a serious point on the run from 60 metres on the run with the aforementioned Cultec Hurley.
Having pucked around with these hurleys casually, there definately is a very good strike out of these hurleys. However Im not keen on the shape of the hurleys or the reaction of the sliotar when one tries to trap the ball or get first touch

I not anti the Torpey hurleys It just the don't suit me, I just don't like the feel of it.
The break could happen any hurley, if it's broken half way up the handle, clean and long break, then get araldite (epoxy resin) and glue it up. I often do and they never break there again if done properly.

Used an O’Connor hurley years ago and didn’t like it at all. Poor strike off it on a windy day. The larger bas would catch in the wind. Couldn’t drive a good sideline ball either because the heel of the hurley didn’t have the timber. O’Connor Hurley’s appear to be more suited to a tippy tappy, solo and hand passing game.
My opinion is that the traditional smaller bas is suited for faster striking of the ball and a faster game, for reasons like aerodynamics, so I can’t see that style ever fade out to be replaced with the bread board style.
I prefer Albert Nevin Hurleys myself.

I've seen a lad using a Fitzgerald, he said he got from Cork. It had a similar shape to an O'Connor
