I should be heading down the motorway hopefully. Our best chance at getting to a munster final in awhile. I hope they do it. Clare football needs to be lifted out of the doldrums

Will we have the usual influx of Kilmurry players turn out for the Junior ( free gear without training ) championship. The strongest club in Clare by miles and only 3 on the senior panel.

Give it a rest about Kib they will have the most starting on senior and junior teams what more do ye people want the 15 to play is it ... Said it before if they don't want to give the commitment that's there choice and if yer worried about the gear don't ask them to play with the juniors so because everyone else on the junior team trained all year I suppose

My heart says Clare can win and my head says they can do it also.
Despite not getting promoted from Div 4, Clare's performances were much better this season than previous years when they had a share of luck that artifically inflate their finishing positions.
However, this a stronger Limerick side that we beat in the league and I cant ignore the fact that we are perhaps a defender or 2, a midfielder and another forward or 2 short of becoming Munster's 3rd strongest team.
It will be much closer than recent championship encounters particuarly if McGrath, Tubridy and Donnelly show their form.
(Gary Brennan has rarely disappointed in the last few years so I expect another big performance from him)

bannerboy7 your a sad case constantly carping on about the kib players and the county team.shane hickey went with the seniors last yr only to be left on the bench for 3 games and got half game in following game.its up to you to interpret that whatever way you want.who else would you think should be on the senior team?its an unpaid sport and as such its up to every individual what commitment to give to club, county or both.im sure theres lots of guys around clare with other clubs who wont give the time and effort who would be good enough.as indeed the same around kerry cork etc.as for free gear?they are well looked after with free gear by the club and dont really need more..!!

Unfortunately he's not a sad case. A certain Kib player some might know who I'm on about, played minor for Clare at 17 and not at 18. Played 21 for a season and not the rest. The years he did play for Clare the manager was a KIB man. They are producing great players, but they posess an attitude that KIB are bigger than the county.

The KIB boys should not be asked to play for the juniors. Its amazing how so many fron that club cant commit to Clare - it cant all be about work commitments etc. I know one of the guys who wont play hardly ever works anyway. Its simple, they value the club, and have no commitment to the county. The earlier post about Shane Hickey sums up that attitude - he gave up because he wasn't getting his game. What about upping his game and fighting for his place - he has no divine right to the jersey. Sure if eveyone had that attitude county squads would only consist of 18/19 players.

Aside from David Tubridy, there are no Doonbeg players on the senior or junior panel. Should that not be highlighted as well? O'Curry's have four on the senior panel. Martin McMahon and Peter O'Dwyer (sub keeper) have given a huge committment to Clare this year and in McMahon's case for several years. Shane Hickey, Declan Callinan and Ian McInerney would also be worth their place on the senior panel but that's it from KIB. The best young players from Clare are from Cratloe - Cathal McInerney, Podge, Sean Collins, Conor McGrath, Conor Ryan, Liam Markham yet none of them are on the senior panel. The Clare panels on the senior panel have given a super committment but those not part of it are not just from Kib.

Are the cratloe lads you mentioned there not all currently on the senior hurling panel? Are you looking for that many to play as dual players? It is not suprising those players pick hurling due to the superior set-up. Michael Cahill has done wonders with the footballers this year in terms of making the set up more professional however one person cannot compete with the set up that the hurlers now have under davy fitz. Team weekends in Adare Manor for example. Who in their right mind would slog it out in division 4 when the hurlers are treated so much better.

Lads, I wonder where this huge optimism is coming from ahead of tonight's game in the Gaelic grounds. I have been listening to this now for a few months and although limerick are not as strong as previous years, they have been thru the mill in Munster championship with no real slip ups in d last 10 years.

This Clare team has had promotion in its own hands twice in the last few years only to let it slip as they headed down the home straight and that must pose some questions of their mentality.

The only team of note they've really beaten in recent years in Munster championship is Waterford.

The manager does not seem to be the most popular figure in d dressing room by no means.

Seems to be constant politics and reasoning for players not making themselves available for county panel and opting to play for juniors etc.

Talk of David tubridy and Brennan midfield being serious quality but how many times have they really produced it in the cut and trust of championship?

I travel to the Gaelic grounds tonight and am led to believe that limerick are in for a serious test from this Clare team. I just wonder if this will be the case come 9:00 tonight?

A lot of Limerick people were worried enough ahead of Waterford, but when Gary Hurney was ruled out, it became a bit more straightforward.

I was impressed with some of the younger Limerick players against Waterford, and Ian Corbett gets his chance today. Darragh Treacy didnt get a run the last day, and he kicked 0-3 against Carlow. We seem to be pulling the odd good kid from underage teams that arent setting the world alight.

The Cratloe lads mentioned are all on the hurling panel which has still about 40 players on it. The football set up has improved considerably over the last couple of years and if the likes of Cathal McInerney and Liam Markham were part of it, players of their quality would make a huge difference. They could be the difference between getting promoted from division 4 or staying there yet again. With good communication and putting player welfare first, it shouldn't be totally impossible to accomodate two or three dual players. The Cratloe lads have a winning mentality and would be well able to play both as long as the management teams worked together. McInerney is particular is a gifted footballer.
