This sickens my arse big time.

A wannabe celeb if I ever saw one. I'm not dissing his refereeing abilities-I never paid that much attention to it, but jesus the media profile he has built for no apparent good reason is sickening.

Also if referees are having these video sessions to review/discuss contentious decisions every few weeks great-but I'm not sure Mr McEnaney should be going on TV telling us who got it right and who didn't.

He made a couple of (wrong) decisions that didn't go Cork's way in the 2010 replay but I can't remember ever having a gripe with him from a Cork point of view other than that.

A good ref in his day but I agree the fawning over him is a bit OTT. I know the one thing that players used really like about him was that he talked to them and explained decisions etc rather than just blanking them on the pitch.

yeah i think i have an idea where u are coming from.

he has made some serious bad calls himself but is portrayed as some kind of guru. in fairness players seem to like him as he communicates with them during games and applies common sense at times. rather the rules to the letter of the law some would say thats a good thing others would say its a bad thing.

He basically leaves too much go for each side, to the extend that they cancel themselves out.

He is at least consistent, but is an example of a ref who has decided to simply ignore the tackle law. This leads to crap games, and crap teams/players being able to bring games down a level to which they can compete at. It's the elephant in the room for Gaelic Football that we won't address.

Simply got too many big calls wrong, starting from 96 AI final, all the way to ridiculous mistake in 2010 AI semi-final.

I kind of liked his style of leaving a lot of things go, but he's mainly rated highly because of his profile: people who don't actually watch games that closely hear a ref being praised and act the parrot in a bid to sound knowledgeable.

I just feel that he lets all the technical stuff go. You can take as many steps as you like, pick the ball clean off the ground or hand pass it with no striking action etc. when he's in charge. It makes it very difficult to dispossess an opponent, which leads to pulling and dragging, which he let's a lot of go as well. I do feel he becomes a leveller between teams of different skill levels, which makes games closer, but not necessarily better from a neutral or purist's point of view.

He did allow Eamonn Callaghan to take a huge amount of steps for Kildares goal in the second half in that game so he kind of balanced things out

My point exactly. He got three big calls wrong in that game: Coulter's goal, Smith's point, Callaghan's goal. Not great going for such a highly-regarded referee.

I think McEneany is quite entitled to do whatever the hell he wants now that he's retired. And if he gets a few bob for saying a few things in a paper or interview then so what? All the power to him.

Or should he pass all his media appearance decisions by you?

Ok.

Mr McEnaney is chairman of the national referees committee and then goes on tv telling the nation what was discussed at a referees meeting in relation to which referees got their decisions wrong-totally unprofessional IMO.

As I said earlier I'm not interested in forensically examining his quality or otherwise as a referee, its the fact that he is lauded as being a super referee that annoys me.

The main gripe referees had against him was that McEneaney could let the game flow and get away without being destroyed in an assessment report, whereas if other referees allowed a free to be taken six inches further forward than where it should have been, their marks on the report took a hit.

Created a lot of bitterness and jealousy
