Can someone explain to me why the bookies have installed Clare as favourites for this game?

They have been playing in the lower division for the past 3 years.

Davy has guided the side to Div 1 and achieved the main target for the year.
However, I feel that the time is right now for this team to mature into a championship force.
This will more or less be the same Clare team that played the same opposition at the same venue two years ago.
They performed fairly well then against an arguably stronger Waterford side so I dont think its asking too much for them to improve on that display.
To answer Paudge's query, the bookies probably think this Waterford team isnt as strong as previous years and on that basis Clare might be able to make the step up.

My guess is that money has gone on Clare and the bookies are try to hedge some of it.
This is a good young Clare team that in 2 years time will be serious contenders for winning an AI, when the lads out of the last 2 years minor teams hit 20/21. We are also in with a great chance of winning this years AI U21 championship.
Our goal at the start of the year was simple. Win D2 (achieved). Get to a Munster Final. And I suppose win a Munster U21 and possible AI.

One thing I hope the ref will crack down on Sunday is Mullane over-carrying the ball. 2 years ago when we played them he got away with it time and again. And in many acses he draws the foul. There was one free in particular in that game given against Conor Cooney I think it was. Mullane had taken 6 steps with the ball before running into Cooney, he took a further two more, put his head down under ooney's arm and the ref inexplicably gave a free in. He regularly takes more than 4 steps with the ball in hand and that makes it very hard for frustrating for defenders. Top hurler, but its something I feel refs should crack down on.

Clare MUST beat Waterford on Sunday, lets not expect anything less. It is nearly the same team that lost to Waterford 2 years ago, a lot of the lads have been on the panel for 3 or more years now. They have to make this step and get to a munster final.

Pretty much my thinking on the team as well from how I hear they are going in training and challenges.

I think Twomey might get a spot midfield which would put Molumphy half forward outside Kelly. Corner forwards will probably be Mullane and Gavin O’Brien but I would not be surprised if Eoin McGrath got into that team. He was playing half forward for the latter part of the league.

Any one hear how the game with Limerick went over the weekend? I heard Waterford won handy enough but I have no idea who played or how the scoring went.

This current crop have been there for two years now. They need to produce over the next two I would think. Theyve done brilliantly to get out of division 2 but need to take it to next stage. Teams only have a finite number of years to hit the heights, and we can't afford to be thinking that it will come eventually and that we should be patient. Damn talk of development or transition- the time is now

Is Mahony not ahead of Daniels? I'd still rate Browne above both of them at the moment. I'd like to see

1. O'Keeffe
2. Kearney
3. Lawlor
4. Fives
5. Browne
6. Brick
7. Foley
8. Moran
9. Kelly
10. Shanahan
11. Mullane
12. Molumphy
13. O'Brien
14. Walsh
15. O'Neill

Waterford are there for the taking.

Not a bad team SB. Savage pace in that FF line.

Will Colin Ryan not start? I would imagine Cunningham will be used off the bench.

Prob will, think Sean Collins will be named as a corner forward and probably play as a 4th half forward. Don't think Pat o Connor will b given the start either.

I think this may be the team that starts out.
Goalie - the top choice this year, very consistent.
Full back line - I would have expected E Glynn to make it on, but Davy seems to prefer Cooney and DOD to flank Dillon and this line is well established by now.
Half back line - Bugler and McInerney are almost certainties once fit. POC has seen a big drop off and while Markham may get the nod over him, I have heard that young Morey from SMB is going well again after injury. He has impressed me when i've seen him this year. He is young though and Davy may hold him on the bench.
Midfield - Expect no change here.
Half forward line - This move of Clancy to centre and Collins to the corner is recent and I know Clancy likes to rove and pick up breaks, I think Collins does that too, but better and is a more accurate scorer. I wouldn't start Clancy and keep Collins in the centre and let him move.
Full Forward Line - I think Colin Ryan will start, he has not shown any reason why not, so will Cunningham, he has super natural ability. Again young but well able to handle himself. D Keane, C Morey and C McInerney offer good options off the bench if he is struggling, but with Waterford minus Conners I would fancy him to go well.

How is Sean Collins? I noticed in the Champion that he came off last week against Cork with a hamstring problem.

i think this will be very close.. i think sean collins is out with a pulled hamstring.. i also believe colin ryan will start.. markham also may switch with either donnellan or o connell.(hopefully o connell as wing back is his best position) as the season goes on i expect conor cooney to come under serious pressure..(from seadna morey and eamon glynn) i also expect both tony kelly and darack honan to come into serious contention after waterford match.. at the moment they are both training and playing challenges.. in fact dont be surprised if one, or even both, of them see some gametime against waterford..i know people on here dont agree. especially in relation to kelly.(you heard it here first)

I'd well believe it hurling immortal. Is Tony not in the middle of the leaving cert though or wil it be over for him by then? I see Darach scored 1-1 after coming on as a sub there lately for Clon. I think you have more or less hit the nauil on the ehad there with that post, same for tse. I'd be slow moving Nicky out of midfield though as he chips in with scores from play as well. Liam Markham is a definate starter for me too.

Heard the A's played the B's over the weekend, and that Honan and Kelly played for the B's. Kelly will surely be in the 24 seeing that he is taking part at training during his leaving cert.
