This one throws in at 2 pm on Sunday. Offaly would be very confident in taking on Galway anytime and after our defensive display against Westmeath, one could go as far as making them favourites. I hope to see some changes to the FB line. If not I think we will be in trouble!

A lot depends on canning being fit. If he is and plays like he did v Dublin then I think Galway should come through with a few points to spare. However if he is missing it will be interesting to see if anyone else in the Galway team can step up and lead the attack. Psychologically it would be a big boost to the Offaly team if he does not line out

If Canning is fit and plays anywhere near his potential then Galway win.
If not Offaly, should Galway pull a by now traditional collapse, could well nick it.

Awful venue for the game. Tullamore to Portlaoise could be a nightmarish journey. Both sets of fans on the same road.
Sometimes the GAA seem to make it difficult for their loyal fans. Mullingar again or would have been the best venue.

looks like i won't be able to make this one. For me Offaly would be slight favorites for this one, Galway looked very porous at the back against Westmeath and will need to seriously tighten up to stay in this contest. having said that we still have a few players that are capable of cutting loose on the day and doing some damage. i hear that Davy Glennon has a broken finger, if so Bernard Burke would be the obvious replacement for me. Any word on Joe? has to be touch and go that he'l tog out.

Galway should win this one but depends on the team that shows up for the day as usual.

I Offaly can keep Joe Bergin in near the goals and not have to bring him out the field to win primary possession then we will have achance of causing an upset.A full forward line with Bergin and Dooley would cause trouble for any team.

Tough game to call. I would imagine Offaly would be fairly confident, they are always up for a game against Galway including the two close games the last time the sides met in Championship. There were encouraging signs from a Galway perspective in the games against Dublin in that they played for the full seventy minutes and had a bit more bite in their performances than last year. I think it will be a close game and will be decided on how well Galway's backline can deal with Bergin and Dooley. Would not be surprised at another draw.

For me the tactical set up of the Offaly team against Wexford was what allowed them back into the game. In the second half we were playing with the strong breeze, had all the momentum and went 9 points up. At this stage we should have went on and won comfortably. The reason we didn't was that we persisted with a 2 man inside forward line. I've never seen an inter county senior hurling team playing with a wind as strong as the one we had in that game and withdraw a member of the full forward line into midfield. The amount of ball mopped up by the spare Wexford defender was scandalous. And Brian Carroll simply wasn't winning enough loose ball in the middle third to justify his role out there.
Galway's full back line last Sunday was proven to be incredibly vulnerable. Kevin Hynes in my opinion is there to be exploited but are we going to give him an armchair ride and leave him as the loose man in Portlaoise? I guarantee Anthony Cunningham would breathe a huge sigh of relief if we did. A full forward line of Shane Dooley, Joe Bergin and Cathal Parlon playing in traditional roles while rotating around those positions could really lead Galway a merry dance. Galway's full back line and half forward lines could be taken to the cleaners so lets put ourselves in a position to do that.
Having said all that I think Galway will shade it again.

whatever about the Galway fans, most of the offaly hurling fans would not be going down from tullamore but instead through Roscrea, however as the footballers are playing Kildare there will be a fair bit of traffic coming in from the north of the county

Looking forward to this game as there is an air of unpredictability about it.
If i was asked last weekend i would have slighty favoured Offaly considering Galway's high score concession against Westmeath. But, i agree with kinnittyman that Offaly really need to be more positive in their forward gameplan.
After watching the Wexford game on the player that evening i thought Wexford were marginally the better team although beaten.
I felt they may have won if they had converted more of their chances and lowered their wide tally.
Offaly's decision to deploy Brian Carroll in the roving role wasn't that benifical i thought either. Cathal Parlon struggled to cover the ground left in Carroll's absence i thought.
I didn't see the Galway Westmeath highlights but was shocked to hear Westmeaths total all the same.
But Galway turned around a couple of days later and beat a decent Tipperary team in a challenge in Thurles so how they go this weekend is anyone's guess.
Is another 2 game saga on the cards i wonder?

It wouldn't be their first time as favorites against Offaly only to draw or lose.

I supose that is a bit like Tipp over the last 40 years or so harry!! Hopefully it will be one of Galway's good days this Sunday but yes they can be unpredictable at the best of times.

Having Collins and Canning back is a major plus for Galway. Surprised that Cunningham announced this so early in the week. Maybe he wanted to keep Westmeath guessing and have a bit of mind games with them

As a versitile hurler Kevin Hynes is quality and could be played elsewhere other than full-back. However Collins might be better at that position and it will depend on his fitness if he starts on Sunday.
As for Joe it was only a precaution that he was not playing against Westmeath. Hopefully we wont be relying on him for scores from play and attacking options. That burden will be shared with Niall Burke at 11. It will be interesting to see how good N Burke will be, in his most stern test as a Galway hurler. Also if Burke and Canning perform well down the middle, space might open up for Damien Hayes and the other corner forwards.

HURLING: Offaly hurling manager Ollie Baker has named an unchanged team for Sunday's Leinster championship semi-final against Galway at O'Moore Park. Baker will keep faith with the side that beat Wexford in the last round, with star forward Shane Dooley named at corner-forward.

Hmmmm.... I have my grave doubts over JC's readiness or availability.
No, Collins was tried at FB during the league and isn't really the answer there either. I have no solutions either but I don't like the odds being quoted - look at last Saturday evening.

Unofortunately leaving joe out wasn't just a precaution the last day, and at the time it was unclear as to how long the injury would take to clear. They were therefore doubtful as to whether he'd be ready for this one.
Lets hope they are not rushing him back for this one, as it seems that rushing him back from the same injury for the relegation playoff v Dublin has come back to haunt them now. That is, of course, assuming that they do intend on starting him and it's not a 'dummy team' similar to the team they named v Westmeath.
Bluelim, you're right, Collins isn't the answer at fb either, but for now I'd rather see him there Sunday than Hynes.

I think how Galway's new look side cope with Offaly's forward mix of physicality, experience and class could be the defining factor in this game. Offaly for me with Shane Dooley on song.

A half fit Collins at full-back? He and also Canning may feature as subs at some stage in the game.
