Limericks Andy Lee takes on WBC belt holder Mexican Julio Chevez Jr.in El Paso in Texas this Saturday night for the a world title showdown, unfortunately no television company this side of the world are showing this fight which is a disgrace,HBO are showing it in America, this is a true world title fight which if Andy wins will become hero status in his native Limerick.
RTE made a super hero out of Bernard Dunne although he never won a true world title(only an interim title when he beat Cordoba in the point),and here we have an Irishman with a serious chance but no Sky or Boxnation or Seanta or the mighty RTE is showing it.
Their will be up to 50,000 people at the fight as it is very near the Mexican border, and a couple of die hards from Ireland.
Heres hoping for a bit of luck and good news on the sporting front for Irish sports fans worldwide.

He’ll have to get the knockout to be given a draw!!!
But seriously, he can forget about a points decision down there in bandit country. He could pummel Chavez for 12 rounds and he still wont get the decision. His only hope is KO if he wants to come away with the belt.
Boxing is not a sport, its a business, we saw that last weekend. Much more lucrative to fill a stadium in El Paso with 50,000 Mexicans, that a 10,000 Hall in Boston or Detroit with a few thousand Irishmen so if its any bit close, why would they give the Irishman the decision?
Chavez was a laughing stock 3 or 4 years ago, at the time he had built up a record of about 30-0 fighting Mexican road sweepers. But since then his trained under Freddie Roach, who has started to polish his skills. He gave Duddy a right beating, but Duddy was spent at that stage.
Bloody joke that no station is picking it up. HBO are showing it in the US so all they’d have to do is buy the rights off them to show it here. Its readymade.

If Andy Lee was a Dub, RTE would be all over the fight. An that's the truth.

Can't believe it's not on TV over here, was really looking forward to watching it. I thought Sky might pick it up. Best of luck to Lee. As others have said, he'll probably have to knock the guy out to get the decision.
It's a shame that we can't even get radio commentary on it - have great memories of getting up in the middle of the night to listen to some heavyweight bouts Stateside featuring Bruno, Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe and the rest.
Anyway, best of luck to Andy, we need a bit of Irish sporting success on the international stage...

Chavez has come a long way since being a sideshow act on his fathers undercards Roach and Ariza have moulded him into a real good pressure fighter.Andy will have to box outta his skin on the night too win.Aside from the crowd being against Lee Chavez usually after the weigh ins rehydrates up too around 185 compared too Lee going too 173 lbs for Lee so that so thats a huge weight advantage when Chavez goes too the body. With the fight being as good as a home fight for Chavez i dont know if Andy can dominate him enough to take a ud my prediciton would be Andy boxing his way too a tight lead at the ninth then Chavezs pressure wearing him down too win a ud but hopefully Lee can pull it off be a great boost too Irelands pro boxing game

Thanks for the heads up on that Boru. I will do my best to get a picture courtesy of Ireland's 3rd world national broadband scheme.

If Andy can take Chavezs body shots he has a great chance at winning. Its crazy though that Chavez can fight on the night 25 lbs above his weigh in from the night before. He should have atleast 10lbs+ on Andy if they weigh in there usual fight night weights

Chavez will pick up a lot of weight but that level of weight change takes a lot out of you... it's not like being at your natural weight or even fight weight all the time so it's a mixed blessing.
Think Andy can do it, difficult style to fight against and Chavez will be surprised when he can't totally bully Lee and the fact that Lee has knockout power in both hands makes him constantly dangerous. Mon Andy!

Ya i understand this the fact that Chavez puts on so much weight in between the weigh in and fight night would suggest he does have trouble making weight but at the same time Lee at 6 2 does not have much meat on his body and with Chavez cranking home his body shots i just worry about Andy in the second half off the fight add in hes never gone passed 10.I really hope Andy can do it after the week in soccer and the another beating on the cards in new zealand we will need something to cheer us up

Chevez was 21 and 1/2 pounds over on fight night and will prob be the same tomorrow night,Lee usually comes in around 12 pounds over, for Chevez to drain his body that much is scary and you wonder wud his stamina be affected???time will tell, ill stick my neck out and go for a Lee ko in the 1st round, yes the 1st,Lee will be told to attack from the off to quieten down the 40,000 crowd and Lee will catch him cold and drinks all round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lee fought the wrong fight, got sucked into a brawl & lost to a brawler. He hould have stayed in the center of the ring like he was told by e stuward. Saying that Chavez is a big brute, a juiced up brute at that.
Hard luck Andy
