In his Limerick Leader column last week, Martin Kiely said that the Limerick hurling management should not have to be "begging for water and energy drinks".

Limerick GAA Secretary Mike O'Riordan is keen to point out that Limerick company Iska Water generously sponsor and supply water to all Limerick county teams. "Our kit van drivers collect the water as required from their premises in Ballyneety. Furthermore Lucozade Sport are one of our main sponsors and supply drinks as part of our arrangement...our underage coaching and games teams are also provided with drinks"

Will someone please pick Martin Kiely up off the floor.

The clarification should have been on the back page

Granagh, readers here need to understand something before they form an option on your original post.

Do you consider everything said by Mike and the county board to be accurate and honest?

We are awaiting your answer with anticipation.

I am not known for rushing to defend the CB but Granagh is right, this should have been on the back page where the original allegation was made. Hiding it inside the paper is not the way to go at all. So, we are not awaiting his answer at all as Granagh is correct and you are wrong.

When I was involved with the schools a couple of years ago we gave the kids a bottle of Lucozade Sport when the played at half time games. There were stacks upon stacks of it stored at the Gaelic Grounds because Lucozade Sport were delivering it on to them free. I saw the supply of it with my own two eyes.

If the same arrangement exists to this day, then there is no reason why any problem should exist, unless there was some short term temporary supply problem as a result of a late delivery or something, which to be fair is unlikely as from personal experience in dealing with Glaxosmithkline in the past, I found them very efficient to deal with.

There is only place to get Limerick results.
http://milford.limerick.gaa.ie/limerick-club-results

This has been done for 4 or 5 years now. I have repeatedly said that Kevin Keenan should be left look after this for the Limerick website. Look after him every year and let him at it without influence. He is good at it, he get the results up very quickly and people have huge respect for what he is doing.

There is no tangible reason why anyone would not agree with me on this, there should be no reason to have to control Kevin Keenan. Its simply a results service

Totally agree with you on this but as you know simplicity and Limerick GAA do not go hand in hand. Nothing comes from the GG unless it goes through the secretary for his approval. That is why we have such things as Riverdance and other 'mistakes' such as having a media night with no media present. So while the notion that Kevin be allowed to control the results is a brilliant one, they will relinquish no power at all.

It is time for Martin Kiely to quit while he is still ahead. One of his trusted and most loyal sources misled him in this case. His sense of importance is too great for his own good. Most columnists write with passion. Martin Kiely writes to be heard and gets really frustrated when enough of people are not listening. He is too involved. The time is right to let go.

I buy the leader as a matter of course. The fact that Kiely is there is incidental. Do people buy it to read what he has to say? If so then he is doing his job.

Martin Kiely the commentator on the Clare/Waterford game on the RTE radio. Is he from Limerick and the same person being referred to here?

Yes it's the same Martin Kiely that was commentator on the Clare/Waterford match that writes for the Limerick Leader and he is from Limerick

In fairness to Kiely, he is an excellent commentator, but he is a terrible person to have writing on Limerick GAA matters in the Leader or anywhere else. Could RTE not just give him more air time, so that he'd have to leave the Leader due to his workload?

He doesn't get the soapbox with RTE at all. He tried that a few years ago when he brought on the great Tom Ryan one morning. Tom, as only Tom can, upset a few people and Kiely got rapped over the knuckles for it being off the air for a while after that. I agree that he is a good commentator but is too political for the Leader.

As stated already more than worrying about Martin Kiely creating a debate on GAA with his articles...be better if People looked at the county board and their shortcomings!!

Please quote the alleged apology verbatim and in full. Your second hand version - while well intentioned - is not sufficient. Otherwise, I will have delete the topic.

I posted it exactly vertatim as it appeared in the Limerick leader in a box. The only line that wasnt on the paper was the bottom Ger loughnane type comment about picking him off the floor.

Maybe it would be better if he highlighted true shortcomings of those who he sides with.

The following was part of the back page this week

"Indeed I hear two former Chairmen had a good go off each other at the same match in Cork and it got so heated that others had to step in. It looks like stewarding is becoming a dangerous occupation!"

Another embarrassing episode for Limerick at the Cork v Kerry football game.
