The exact words of the ITV commentator.
Jim Beglin Saying that things are really bad economically in Ireland at the monent and the fans are great for spending a few Euro that they don't have to get to Poland.
Trap and this shower of failures have disgraced this country in epic proportions.

I am very sad to come to the realisation that Irish people no longer seem to have any pride in their country.

Consider those Irish fans who traveled 1500 miles in camper vans, and stand in a stadium singing and celebrating a 4-0 hammering (and we were flattered by the score line )
It saddens me to say it, but these people are odd.

FFS...........would you rather they all left early?
Fair play to every one of them. They were a credit to the country, singing way despite the debacle they watched in front of them. They went and enjoyed themselves, saved up and spent their money to follow the team. They have been a credit to Ireland in both games.
I find you a bit odd. Some of your comments on here about your own county are a joke. You have attacked players and management and now you want to have a cut at people who spent their money to support a sporting side and represented themselves exceptionally well.
I know full well you see yourself as a some sort of expert WUM but in all honesty if you were from Clare id be ashamed of you!

Unlike Keane I have no problem with the fans themselves , they made the best of a bad lot throughout this tournament. Some of them would have spent up to a months dole on this trip(Only joking here).
But I do find it very cringeing to listen to the reaction to them from our broadcasters and reporters etc , no doubt RTE will be wall to wall tomorrow on about how great we are and we are the real winners of Euro 2010 etc etc, indeed George Hamilton has already awarded us the non existent fans trophy already. The rest of Europe will have taken little notice about how great how fans were , but they will know who the poorest team by a long way were in this tournament, and I am sure a lot of the fans when they come home will say it was great craic but supporting the team was a little embarrassing at times.

Its called supporting ur team. Something too many in our country only do with winning teams. As I was at the game, I can tell u it was far from celebrating, it was singing n pride at the end that we are represented in such a major tournament. Are we all disappointed, damn right we are, I can assure u that there wasn't much of a party afterwards, v sombre due to result obviously.
On we go now to the Italy match, a lost cause, yes, but we will continue to support our team. I'd sooner spend my money supporting Irish football both at national and international level than spend it watching a foreign based successful team. But hey that's just me

Fair dues to you Phil if you do support the game here, but you certainly are in the minority out there. What I find odd is that 25000 Irish fans would travel thousands fo miles to suport Irish soccer when the majority of them would not go near an airtricity game. Best fans in the world when on foreign soil drinking beer in the sun ...worst fans in the world for supporting their domestic league.

What about a member of the latest incarnation of The Dubliners bringing up the whole Andy Reid issue again?

With all the talk of cutbacks in RTE,....and I don't see any reduction in my licence fee,....was that the most people RTE ever sent to a soccer Finals since, and including, 1988??
Where's all the money coming from?
(I presume I'm not going to see any reduction in my licence fee, anytime soon; if ever!)
Will the Ronan Collins Show be coming from Dungdansk Shopping Centre, tomorrow?
And 'An Nuacht' from the Gdansk Shipyards?

Yes I would much rather see the Irish lads out on the streets rioting and fighting with the locals. How dare they sing and support their team. They are a disgrace to their country.
I can understand what Keane is saying. After the tournament the FAI and the way kids are coached should come under scrutiny. After each tournament the squad came back heroes after losing gallantly. This time we need to address the reasons why we have none of the ball skills.
We have a squad of players that are big strong and athletic but can't get on the ball or keep it. We need to look past how things are done in the UK and encourage our youngsters to have better technique and become comfortable with the ball at their feet like the rest of Europe.

Its effectively Saipan Mark II: that we shouldn't be happy to just show up; we should have convinced ourselves, - and not just Robbie Keane mouthin platitudes, - that we deserve to be there, and we're as good as anybody else.
And play like we mean it
