I know there's arecession and I know families cant afford the prices with the cost of petrol etc but this really bugs the hell out of me. I guarantee you that if we get over Waterford on Sunday, all these lads that will be in the oub on Sunday will expect stand tickets with a good vewi for the Munster Final if we get there. I know I'm blowing my own trumpet a bit here but msyelf and another fella are flying over from London for it. In fact, I havent missed a Munster Championship game we have been in in about ten years. What really annoyed me was the Munster Final in 2008. I came back for the Limerick and Waterford games and had great tickets for both. I go to the games with a good friend of mine from Crusheen and another fella and we always get tickets through the club. However when it came to the Munster Final all we could get was terrace tickets. Where were all the cvnts the day against Waterford or the day against Limerick?
I think myself that only Finals and AI semi-finals should be shown live. Do some deal where they can be shown outside Ireland to the diaspora in London, the US and Australia and places like that.
Fvcking does my head in. Wont go to the match but will sit all day drinking Bulmers watching it and then the everyone going round scrating their heads as to why there were so few at the game itself.

Well if you're willing to pay for my flights home for it Bridgeman, by all means. Otherwise go'wan away for yourself! It does great things to promote the games, having it on the telly but I firmly believe that a price drop on match tickets to realistic prices would do a hell of a lot more for the game. Also, as great as Thurles is, it's a balls to get to. It came to a head for me when I could not afford to go to the U21 final in 2009 as the train plus the ticket was almost €100 having been to all the games before then. Ridiculous for an amateur organization!

Can see both sides of it, I think 30 euro for the stand is f8cking scandelous for a non knockout match- throw in another 30 for petrol and you have an expensive day out for 1 person- add kids then forget about it.
60 notes would go a long way in the pub for a family to watch it and still make a day out of it, have 2 dinners, 2 kiddies meals for your 30 quid, 3 or 4 pints- watch match & home at 6 all for what it would cost one person to go to thurles.

Don't think that is the answer, you probably still would not get many of them out of the pub and you would be excluding the Elderly , the very young and the ill supporters who would love to be there but they can't travel, the TV is the next best thing for them to feel they are still involved in supporting their county.
And not to mention the PR own goal it would be to stop televising the matches , it would be suicide for the GAA to only show semi finals in this media day and age.

The best promtional tool the GAA ha for football and hurling are live matches on TV.there is no way live matches on TV should be reduced.
Tickest should be cheaper to encourage people to go to matches and I would be in favour of stopping people who have not attended early round matches of getting a ticket for an all ireland final. If it means only 10000 people from each county involved get an all ireland final ticket then that is fine the remaining tickets can go to neutral supporters. In any other sport you havent a hope of getting a ticket to the final if you dont attend matches earlier on in the year why should the gaa be any different. And it would encourage people to go to matches earlier in the summer

Thats the otehr side of the coin blanco unfortunately. There are genuine people who cant make it because they cant afford it or are ill or whatever and will watch it at home. But also plenty who could make it but would rather tgo to the pub. Unfortunately every sport is now a PR exercise as well as a sport and things like the Heineken Cup and al sorts of mickey mouse boring rugby and soccer matches being shown all year round have forced the hand of the GAA.

Doubt it will make much difference. Antrim are never on the tv yet you can count our supporters at games on one hand.

Agreed. The biggest crowd in Kingspan Breffni Park was for the televised Louth v Meath game last year. A year earlier, Cavan v Wicklow wasn't on TV yet attracted a pitiful attendance.
Cut live TV and people lose interest. The less people are interested, the fewer people will travel to a game.

I am also on the dole but its not as if this game has been landed on us out of the blue. I have been saving in what i call my hurling fund all year to cover all games league, U21 & minor.
Got my stand ticket & train ticket during the week €55 for both which i consider good value, there is also the terrace €10 if u think the €30 is a bit steep.
It does annoy me when we get to finals and tickets are scarce the groveling that has to be done to secure a ticket. I know the season ticket is there but not all can afford to pay out €70/80 for that at once but there should be a system where you can show the games you went to through out the year.
Where is this pub you go to that you can feed yourself the missus & kids have 3 or 4 pints a few for herself & minerals for the kids for €60 ?
Must call there, not for a Clare game but some other Sunday.

I only attend one game a year.... the AI final.
As a KK man I don't see the point in paying good money for a game that will be over in 10/15 minutes. Its just not value for money

Was nt really getting at u CP, its the ones that convince themselves bringing the family to the pub to watch the game is cheaper than going to the game.
Say family of 4 = €70 Petrol €40 depending where your traveling from but €40 should cover it. Eat before you leave and dont be ashamed to bring the hang sangages for between the 2 games.
Youd make a lot of sangagaes for €10. Total €120 max as opposed to feeding & refreshments in the pub for 2 hours €100
Now surly supporting your team is worth the extra €20

Look at it this way - its one day out. Maybe 2 if we win it. In other sports people are off every weekend.
Yeah, tickets are too expensive, very short-sighted by the Munster Council for 1 senior match.
But its one day out in the year.

Somebody pointed out here that there were combination tickets available before last weekend to cover both the football and hurling games ( Clare v Limerick SFC, Clare v Waterford SHC )
These were priced I think at €20 for terrace, and €35 for the stand, nothing wrong with that in my opinion save for the fact that it should have been publicised more.

Yeah, if you've a spare $1,500 lying around to bring me home for each game (+ tickets, etc.) then I'll join your campaign Bridgeman. 15euro is plenty expensive enough for a Munster semi-final. Only the AI final itself should be more than 30 quid.

Keep the tv, get rid of qualifiers. Don't give me the argument that the players train too long to be knocked out after one game- two ideas, train less, don't get beaten. Bring in the open draw in the football to give em all a fair crack.

That'll never happen, people would never stand for it anyway on the basis that you'd be taking away from them games that they might never get to see otherwise, especially in these recessionary times where they don't have the money to go to games.
On another point why should people around other parts of the country be denied to opportunity to see great games like the Limerick/Tipp game or the Sligo/Galway, Tyrone/Armagh or Cork/Kerry games, or the exhibition that Dublin gave in the football against Louth, or see the provincial SF pairings coming up in the hurling? Who would have the money to see all these games, millionaires apart?
Personally I think their should be a max €25 for covered stands, €17.50 for uncovered stands, €12.50 for terraces, €2.50 reductions for seniors and students and €5 for children under 14. Family tickets €45 for 2 adults and 3 children. I reckon you'd get more people going with them prices, and that these prices should be for every match except the provincial finals, AISF's and AIF's.
