The Way Home,The Night Gardener,Drama City and The Turnaround. All of these are by George Pelecanos who was a writer on The Wire.If you like The wire you'll like these books they are very character focussed novels.

We Need To Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver is a great book aswell.Although not a necessarily a thriller I would recommend it to anyone and you shoudl give it a go
if you want to try something different.

Anything by Raymond Chandler.

also I have read Maj Sojwall and Per Wahloos first two books Roseanna and the Man who went up in Smoke an d they are both top class Swedish Crime Novels

Have you read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yet?

Moneyball is a good enough read, the soccer equivalent Socceronmics is an interesting read, but ropey backing up it's argument. Constantly using one example to prove a point.

Thanks for all the tips lads.

went with the Swedish author recommended above.

Re: Sports Biographies/autobiographies, I really only like the ones that have a story to tell outside the sport

paul McGraths definitely my fave but Niall Quinn and Tony Adams also good,

Good reads I had lately were The Robert Enke story (can't remember actual name of book but he's the German goalie who committed suicide.

Also, Paul lakes book (wish I wasnt here) was a great read.

Seeing as I haven't had a drink in 3 months I might as well have a good read, 2 more weeks and I'll be anybodys after 2 large bottles of Bulmers.

not sure if your into american football but in fairness to theses two books there are some stories to them namath by mark kriegel tells story of broadway joe namath a quarterback but whose life was that of a movie star. brilliant
other one is boys will be boys about the dallas cowboys who won 3 superbowls in the 90s. possibly the most dysfunctional athletes ever to do so.

tis old now, it was a good year for it as we did the clean sweep at underage (12/14/16/minor) in Hurling and football.

Lot of high hair in it, and thats the fellas I'm talking bout. I would actually prefer if people didn't see it.

Can't go wrong with John Grisham books... always a good read. The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly is a great book.
The Alex Cross series by James Patterson is pretty decent as far as detective novels go.

If you're into History particularly WW2, Antony Beevor has plenty of books that are outstanding - Stalingrad, Paris, Normandy, Crete and a new one about WW2 in general.

I found Moneyball hard going due to my ignorance of baseball. I couldn't follow a lot of the basics of it, and maybe didn't appreciate the book at all cos it does come highly recommended.
