As a Clare person I was embarressed and disgusted by his foul-mouthed abuse of the linesman in yesterday's match.Such behaviour should never be excused as an expression of "passion".As manager of the county team he is an ambassador for the county and has a responsibility to behave accordingly.Such behaviour cannot be tolerated and Davy should face disciplinary action.

Seemingly he was directing it at John Mullane.

Would be very strange to accuse a linesman of having no All-Ireland medals

I thought that his outburst was over a lineball decision. At any rate I stand over my point that his behaviour was totally unacceptable for a county manager and warrents disciplinary action.

Cant Agree. I would not be a fan of the clare chip on the shoulder mentality but I must admit this is newsworthy, is good craic and just plain funny

When the Sunday Game were asked to investigate it last night and Des said that they had investigated it and he DOES have 2 All Irelands, thought it was priceless.

They try and make such a soap opera out of a match sometimes, with all this trial by Sunday Game.

Agreed,as someone said on another thread, this behaviour could lead to a serious incident a la the James Ryan case in the game against Limerick,I don't want to see that happening.

why did you have to set up another thread on davy fitz's rant when there was already another thread on it.

The problem Davy has is that he hasn't learned that shouting abuse at people..including players wont win him games, referees will not look favourably on Clare either.
In fact I wonder how long it will it take before he is banned from the sideline; it's only a matter of time.

I'd love to see Davy do line judge at a tennis match involving David Nalbandian.

That could kick off big time.

Agree, wasn't there a similar topic recently with parents screaming from the sidelines, it would turn you off.

Someone obviously should have a quiet word, I know he is enthusiastic etc, but didn't sound good.

Also RTE are at fault here, having not learned lessons from previously, take the mikes away.

During the game he lost the head jumped up and down got excited and exasperated sure dont we all

The CCCC should ban him from the sideline, every game now with Davy has a sideline incident and he is the common denominator. Send him to the stands until he learns to behave himself.

Allt he clare lads spent most of the game with there hands up in the air after a free was given against them. Shouting abuse at people from the line has been a part of the GAA forever id say. Davy was unlucky there that the mic and camera were on him. Mullane going over after the game wasa bit much. Waterford are like the Oasis of hurling a lot of loud mouthed swagger, deifinite talent but always aiming to emulate those gone by. The only answer for Mullane is to lamp him in the puss. The same can be said for Fitzy

Will be interesting to see if there is a mic beside Cody next week. If there was a mic at the 2004 quarter final between Kilkenny and Galway in Thurles then it would have been a lot worse that what happended yesterday. Cody practically assaulted the linesman.

Yarra talking about bans etc is rubbish Davy is an explosive indivuadial whither playing, supporting or manageing he puts hearth and soul into his job irrespective of what club or county he is with.
Sunday was a highly charged occasion and every ball was fiercly contested on and off the field it was never going to get out of hand and when the game was over everyone who wanted to hear could clearly see they are no malice or bitterness in the man he gave a good sporting interview on tv and if anything he has enhanced my views of him which always have been positive.
The G.A.A. need people like davy and when looking for fault in every word they utter they should look at the heat of battle context, much the same applies to Mullane and Kelly
Twas the occasion man and a great one it was.

Of course RTE are at fault,
what sideline doesn't have colourful language in the heat of battle, and with Davy involved in a tight game you're certain to get it.
If RTE are worrying about offending people then they should turn off the mike, or put in a time delay before broadcasting.
But, they know exactly what they're doing....." we've been asked by some viewers to investigate this " ???
Right, so somebody rang in to say they could hear bad language that was clearly audible via the live broadcast and they want Des & co. to "investigate it",.... investigate it ? as if Des was flipping Colombo or something.
It may come as a surprise to some people, but Des Cahil and his panel have no disciplinary function.
RTE should turn off the mikes if they're worried about it, and the relevant GAA authorities should have a word with managers/selectors if they feel it necessary.

The records would show that the above incident was a once off. Davy is a regular occurance be it with County or University. He's a disgrace - what you witness on tv is mild by comparison to what you see at the matches. So don't blame RTE for showing a tiny fraction of what he gets up to. The GAA will have to take action before somebody else flattens him.

As a Clareman I think he is a disgrace. Hurling is a great game but it will be associated with savages if Fitzs antics are not condoned.

While I admit hurling needs characters like Davy Fitz,he needs to realise that he needs to behave in a manner that respects the role of manager. His interviews before and after games are a joke.Does he think he is being funny, smug, smart or just someone who cannot give an honest reply to a straight forward question.Grow up Davy,I dont condone Mullane and Kelly dancing in front of you after the game but theres a reason why you attract this type of reaction and why you always seem everyone has it in for you.
