It will be addressed soon - otherwise nobody will pay it next year.

As somebody who hasn't paid it, I can tell you I haven't heard or seen any action against me yet.

IMF Senior Official how did you instruct Enda and co to address this ;-)

No seriously though; how are the households that haven't paid going to be identified and approached for payment?

By cross referencing utility bills,property registrations,NPPR returns,CGT returns,etc.

Demand letters supposed to be going out soon to those who have yet to pay.

Don't blame any ordinary decent punter who has'nt paid, why should they suffer when reckless bankers, etc seem to be carrying on regardless?

Ya big phil called to me for the 100 quid i gave him four big black sacks full of rubbish which i had paid the state to collect and they didint i told him to go through the contents and he would find the election leaflets that FG and Labour send to me assuring me that they would be no proberty tax or water charges on ones domestic dwelling. they said they were choices to how the money would be raised and this was their choice, Yes FF and the Greens had it in their leaflets and i kept well away from them on that score.
So big phil is gone off down the boreen pulling 4 big black sacks of broken promisses behind him.
I havent an notion of payin big phil. they can follow me to the grave if they like but they better be warned im for cremation and they just might get burned in the process just like i did when i voted for the hoors.

I was reading a book & the author had a theory that politicians should be liable for promises that they make during elections.

So basically if they blatantly state certain policies as election promises & then renege on them the electorate should be able to bring a mass lible action against them. He was referring to candidates in the American presidential race but you could apply it to party leaders here or something.

I'm not sure how feasible it would be to bring something like this in to law but if it came in you'd imagine it would bring an end to parties promising the world at election time if they can't keep them.

There wouldn't be a politician in this country of the last 30 years with a bob to their name!

Here in SDCC land, council officials blitzed the whole council area for the first few weeks after the closing date axing people to pay, as big Phil promised, 'ah cmon now lads, ye have to pay this, big Phil says so', after that letters were sent out to all non-compliant householders (still not sure how they managed to identify who were the householders), as big Phil promised, 'ah cmon now lads ye're messin, ye know ye have to pay'. Is there anything to be said for another mass.

Twill be hard for big phil to collect while he is sunning his fat gut in brazil!

---------------------------------------------

Six Irish officials are reported to be traveling to a conference in Brazil with the Environment Minister Phil Hogan costing the taxpayer more than €10,000.

According to the Daily Mail, the Irish delegation for the UN conference on sustainable development will stay at a luxury Sheraton resort hotel in Rio, close to the famous Ipaneama beach.

Their trip comes amid controversy at a proposal to collect the new Property tax directly from PAYE workers wages.

Councillor Ruth Coppinger has criticised the cost of the conference, highlighting how manyHousehold Charges it will take to cover the €10,000 bill.

Its when people go to sell their house they will definately get caught. It will mount up to thousands after a few years and keep compounding rapidly.

I don't see any point in trying to evade it, tax evaders are better off not paying the TV licence, not paying motor tax every few months, driving without car insurance, dumping their rubbish on the side of the road etc. etc. than trying to evade this one.

Never said anything about myself, just saying if people want to engage in tax evasion there are better ways of doing it than stupidly avoiding a tax that will ultimately bit them in the ass.

For once we agree on something. I remember all sorts of promises before the election and also before the referendum. But the fools dared to believe and as a nation we fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Slightly off-topic, but the property tax will be deducted from workers' wages.

This will be ripe for some sort of court challenge. It is a scandal that an oik like hogan can swan it off with his over-paid officials to an $800/night hotel while the citizens of this country ar worrying whather or not the officials left behind will begin to make further inroads to their wages so that Hogan and the government of traitors can pay of private gambling debts that we have been saddled with. Yesterday we had the appalling vista of BOI getting to make almost €40 million profit from a payment to a failed bank and we get to pay for it all!!! You couldn't make this shhit up.

Donegal County Council today said they're going after people who haven't paid the second home tax.

Those who have failed to pay since 2009 now owe €2,160 – €800 in charges plus €1,360 in late payment fees and penalties.

Failure to pay this will render the home non-saleable, and non-transferable, the council says.

This is the roadmap they will follow for dealing with household tax dodgers.

I would like to be a fly on the wall when parents in future years explain to their children that the house they're hoping to inherit has thousands of euros of fines and penalties on it.

"So what you're saying is that the house can't be sold until the €18,000 in fines and penalties is paid because wouldn't pay €100 on a point of principle back in 2012, daddy?"

More scaremongering from the lad in Ipaneama.

Do you really think the PAYE system knows who owns what house everyone is living in?

Hogan must have heat stroke or got confused while trying to count the polka dots on the bikinis.

More taxes on the private sector who have been crucified to pay for the entitlements of our gilded public sector.

Between 19%-44%(depending on whether you believe the ESRI or Prof Toal) of those working would be better off on the dole. Considering the gilded public sector makes up 20% of the work force, then between 25% and 50% of those working in the private sector would be better off swanning around, claiming benefits and sunning themselves, the solution, tax them more!

Is the 100 not just a payment to allow the government to collect this charge every year? Its not a once off 100 bill, dont you have to pay it - or possibly more- every year?

How will Revenue know whether you're a householder or not.

Yep, but it will be extra over and above existing inheritance taxes.
