Having had a few myself, I am concerned for Declan Hannon participation in the remainder of the season for Limerick. At the opening league game v's clare, Hannon was named in the 15 and then removed just before throw in, thats 4 months and counting he has been pretty much out of action. You could see against Tipp he was struggling and now with the latest set back you'd have to wonder how serious his problem is. A well known Physio I used deal with told me when I was getting treatment that the only treatment for a groin injury baring an operation is rest, and will always cause problems further down the line. Its a tough one to take, I hope im proved wrong but Hannons season could very well be limited to impact substitution appearances this season. Hes still only a young lad and I hope hes minded rather than forced back early and cause irreparable damage.

There is no point in rushing trying to get him fit for matches in a few weeks time, if it takes a season out of action then that is what it takes. A big blow, but you'd have to think of the years ahead then any possible gain down the line this season.

Yeah he said (in the interview that everyone was giving out about for no reason) during the league that the only cure was rest and gave a timeline of 6 to 8 weeks and that would have just about been up to the time of the Tipp game. So I think he was fit enough by that game but had clearly little or no hurling or fitness work done in a long time up to that point. Very unfortunate to tweak the injury again but fingers crossed it's not to the same degree of damage again. Anyone know what the outlook is? Would be great to see him play some part in the championship yet but I'll trust the management will look after his fitness first and foremost.

90% of soft tissue injuries are preventable through proper training methods, stretching and mobility work and flexibility work between trainings

that is all

Perhaps the GAA need to really buy into the concept of non impact methods of building fitness in the winter months such as aquajogging.

Lads starting back before recovery is complete is too commonplace in the GAA.

You rarely see it happening in other codes.

Hopefully, he'll not be pressured to come back before he's fully ready.
