More contorversy. Down have come back and are only losing by one. They give away a free. The ref calls the player over to book him. Monaghan take the quick free which leads to a goal and inexplicably the ref allows it even though he had pulled a Down player out of position to book him.

If Down lose they will have a justifiable complaint against the ref. Ten minutes to go, Monaghan by four.

And what's going on with those substitutes that suddenly seem to have appeared from nowhere for both teams?

Ref is dreadful. I would be going mad if I was a Down fan.

Down win by one. Richly deserved. Had to come back twice, the second time due to a grossly unjust goal allowed by the ref.

The ref will be saved from having to explain himself now.

Very entertaining game overall, though. Monaghan used the long kick pass to great effect in the first half, but Down put in a magnificant second half.

Yes, I thought it was an excellent performance against the 16 men of Monaghan.

Terrific game yesterday.

The decison to allow Monaghans goal was teribble however one of my biggest annoyances with football is how often a quick free is stopped by referees as this rewards the defensive team who foul even more.As far as I am concerned every free can be taken quickly and theref should wait to have a few words with the player ho committed the foul later.

Some great scores kicked yesterday in particular Paul Finlays point in the first half.Dick Clerkin must be sick this morning after missing that last second chance to tie the game.Despite being criticised in teh past for its dour style of football the ul;ster championship has provided 2 of the best games in this years championship and we are set up for a cracker next week aswell.Down need Benny Coulter back for the final and perhaps Dan Gordan aswell as their forward line is way to small overall to cope with Tyrone or Donegal

Truly a game of 2 halves, would love to know where Down were in the first but the second half comeback is one of the great things about GAA.
