Can't wait for this game. Should be a great one and it's being played in the right venue.

I cannot believe that the Munster GAA website has STILL not updated their fixture section to show this as being on on Wednesday and NOT Friday.

You'd really wonder if they want people going to Munster fixtures at all this year.

I know Waterford had very little hurling training done upto the opening round , but only saw them train once since so I'd be hoping that changed , and also the lads missing from the opening game should be available for selection now too ?

Waterford have also made four changes with David O’Brien drafted in at right half-back, Colin Dunford at midfield, Austin Gleeson at centre-forward and Brendan Phelan at full-forward. Cian Leamy, Conor Sheehan, Adam O’Sullivan and Cathal Curran are the four players to lose out.

There are five members of the Colaiste na nDéise side that claimed the Dr Harty Cup crown this year in the Waterford line-up – full-back Tadhg Bourke, wing-back Kieran Power, midfielder duo Tom Devine and Dunford, and wing-forward Michéal Harney. It will be a massive occasion for the Bennett family as well with brothers Kieran, Shane and Stephen lining out at right corner-back, left corner-back and right corner-forward respectively. The trio are sons of the former Waterford senior selector Pat.

WATERFORD MH:
S Barry (Lismore);

K Bennett (Ballysaggart),
T Bourke (Clashmore/Kinsalebeg),
Shane Bennett (Ballysaggart);

D O’Brien (Tourin),
S McNulty (De La Salle),
K Power (Kilrossanty);

T Devine (Modeligo),
C Dunford (Colligan);

DJ Foran (Portlaw),
A Gleeson (Mount Sion),
M Harney (Bunmahon);

Stephen Bennett (Ballysaggart),
B Phelan (Ballinameela),
D Flynn (Erins Own).

Would I be right in saying that McNulty and Bourke both play in the forwards for their adults teams? Didn't Barron play in the backs last year when he was corner forward for Fourmile and starting.

Gleeson at centre forward is a serious hurler. Played centre back harty for DLS this year but he looks much better playing in the forwards. Mcnulty played midfield on last year's minor team and is great under a high ball. Adam O'Sullivan that got dropped was a starter on last year's team so it must be a serious forward unit they have going. Good looking team.

Cathal Curran lost out? Would have thought he'd be a certainty?

AFAIK the statue to Master McGrath, outside Dungarvan, is in Colligan and Modeligo is near Cappoquin.

Never heard of either of them as playing clubs, are they underage only clubs?

The Colligan club just outside Clonmel has me baffled, are they close to Newcastle Gaa club?

The starting 15 for Waterford has a real rural club group of players, is underage hurling struggling around the City?

Colligan is not outside Clonmel. It is outside Dungarvan. If you were ever in the Dungarvan area, you must have seen the Master McGrath statue. Fourmilewater (hurling) and the Nire (football) are the clubs from the Waterford side of the Newcastle & Fourmilewater parish.

A bit surprised Dylan Fitzell kept his place for Tipp. He's a decent wing back though don't know why they were playing him in the forwards. I heard Kevin Slattery has the chickenpox he mightn't have been playing anyway.Seanie Ryan is a good hurler came on leaps and bounds in last 12 months. Came on in a challenge against Dublin 2 weeks ago in Holycross and scored 1-3

IIRC, one is 15, one is 16 and one is 17. Yeah Cathal Curran is out injured it was confirmed a few weeks ago, pity as he's a great lad for a few scores.

Should be a great game, both teams look fairly strong. Prob would have liked to see Tom Tobin starting corner back, he was excellent when he came on in the last game v Clare.

Someone asked about McNulty playing in the forwards for DLS, yes he played there against Tallow a few weeks ago and got a few points from play but I think he's a more natural defender.

Best of luck to the Déise lads.

Yeah it sure does. Tbh carry, I think it's more to do with the rural clubs that wouldn't be too well known outside the county producing some good hurlers, which is great to see. For too long, we were too dependent on the likes of DLS, Mount Sion and Ballygunner making up the majority of the starting 15 so it's good to see this change.
Wouldn't say it's a sign of hurling struggling in the city, DLS and BG continue to get stronger. Yeah MS prob have regressed a bit in the last few years but they do have good underage players coming through too. The likes of Roanmore also coming on with big work put into underage in the last few years.

Hurling is booming in the city at underage , its just that the spread of clubs is now encompassing what were traditional football clubs / areas , and its probably to the detriment of football in the mid to long term this is happening . The bigger picture for lots of these talented young hurlers is how they progress when into adult hurling , showing club loyalty is admirable , but playing junior b divisional hurling wont improve a young lad who is serious about playing inter county .

Is Fitzelle a dual star? I know captain Bill Maher is a serious footballer, have yet to see him hurl.

Are John McGrath and Tadhg Gallagher brothers of Noel & Joe respectively?

Is this Tipp team expected to do well? Know very little about them

Yeah Dylan was centre back on last years and this years Minor football teams. Also a fine hurler although im surprised he is not named in the forwards but maybe a change will be made there.

Your correct on John McGrath, not sure on young Gallagher.

Hard to gauge how they will fare tbh NMBG, beating Kerry will have taught management very little.

From speaking to one of the management team, he was happy that plenty of lads had being looked at in challenge games etc and that they were happy enough with what they had.

Tonight will tell an awful lot, this Waterford team will be a real handfull if recent teams are anything to go on.

Looking forward to it now, i'l throw up a report later on.
