I heard David Brady on newstalk the weekend talking about some of the less successful counties merging to give them maybe a better chance of competiting and being successful.

For example he mention leitrim and Longford could merge and maybe they would have a better chance?. What do lads think, what counties would be a goer? Wexford and Waterford could become Wexford or maybe Waterwex, or Laois Offaly could become Loffaly? Personally it should never happen because no matter how small or big the diverse nature of our countys are what make the GAA so great.

Cork and Derry could merge and ye could fight it out to be called 'Cerry' or 'Dork'.

You choose.

For hurling I've always been a strong believer in 'Regional' teams taking part in the AI championship. You already have amalgamations/divisional sides at the club level where several junior clubs come together to field a senior team. Don't see why you couldn't have the same at intercounty level.
Connacht (minus Galway), Ulster (minus Antrim), North Leinster, South Leinster etc. Kerry might be a problem, but they could throw their lot in with Limerick maybe. That way every part of the country is represented. You could still have the Ring, Rackard and Mackey Cups where these counties participated individually.

Carlow/Laois I think for the hurling, though I'd doubt they'd ever go for it be honest.

That said quite a few Carlow clubs play in Kilkenny in the All-County league which would make you wonder. If you asked Laois and Carlow players would they play together if there was a chance of winning a title I'd say the might go along with it.

Sligo/Leitrim, Carlow/Kilkenny, Longford/Westmeath, Fermanagh/Cavan in the football maybe. Doubt we'll ever see it happen to be honest, its next to impossible to garner interest in an entire province for the InterPro's never mind trying to sell it to just two counties.

Well The precedent is there already North and South Tipperary, until then two seperate counties, were joined day one in 1884 and they also have to a parish in Offaly.

Clare and Limerick should merge and be called Clerick. Because divine intervention is the only way us or them will win anything soon and we would only be one letter away from having God on our side

You'll have to try a bit harder at the wumming rebel, very poor effort indeed. I'd give you a D- for that!!

But seeing as you mention it Cork and Kildare joined back in the 80s and they managed to win a football All Ireland or two so maybe you're on to something.

The obsession with trying to throw in digs at Waterford continues unabated-poor enough attempt though rebel. Judging by yourself and the girls' contributions on the Euros threads, the summer break doesn't seem to have softened your obsession with all things United either with even ex-United players getting it from all sides.

Load of sh*te. It's bad enough that we have Galway and Antrim playing in Leinster.

Merge counties or regional teams would make the sports like the farce that is rugby (Munster / Leinster / Ulster / Connacht).

wumming aside, I feel that the county system is and always has been unfair, and that the club all irelands are a fairer reflection of the true merits of the GAA and it's grassroots.

The larger counties have an unfair advantage based on the musings of an English civil servant back in the 1600's.

Interestingly i merely brought something up for debate that was raised by someone else. Clear the ears out face, read my post im not advocating it at all. I just threw out a few examples to help the discussion.

Interestingly enough most of the inferiority complex is coming from the waterford lads..yere very touchy down there altogether if its not wanting finals moved it getting worked up over a post to be discussed.

BTW, i never knew cork merged with Kildare, run that one by me again, I know there were 2 lads out of 15 who hailed from there alright but no nothing of Kildare winning any all ireland and tis a bit rich considering we gave ye 2 corkmen to show ye how to win a first munster title in nearly 40 years..and how did ye treat them????? graditude ha!!
