Similar to the other thread, yet it seems to be all hurling, so we'll leave them off. I say low-profile as anyone of us could say The Gooch or Declan O'Sullivan would walk onto any team in the country, it's not exactly difficult. So the question I am putting to ye is which players who would get nowhere near the plaudits or the credit of the "marquee players" have the same level of talent or ability to merit walking onto any county side?

For me, I think Paul Barden would walk onto any team at any level in Ireland. Only now is his profile getting slightly elevated which is a pity as he approaches the latter stages of his career. He oozes class. Also from a Limerick perspective, I think Ian Ryan is showing himself to be an outstanding inter-county forward. Either of those two, aswell as Michael Quinn from Longford who is having a brilliant debut season in the championship, and Ross Munnelly of Laois who has long been their shining light and an unsung talent in my opinion.

Any IC hurler even an intermediate IC hurler would be able to walk on to IC football team. They would have chosen hurling over football in the first place as they would have found football too easy.

...getting back to the original question ;

I think Gary Brennan and David Tubridy of Clare would make most ( if not all ) inter-county senior football sides.

Stupid comment from N16 I expect better.

As for the topic, whats low profile? Ben Brosnan or Niall McNamme could get on a lot of teams but is a Wexford or Offaly forward sufficiently low profile?

Niall McNamee: If he ever gets fit again.Just a natural talent.

Paul Barden: He was named on the best Leinster team of the last 25 years in 2009.He's an outstanding football and its sad that he has never even got to a Leisnter semi final after playing for 13 years. He's scored 3-6 in his first 3 games in this years championship and surely will get an all star nomination.

Brendan Murphy: An outsanding midfielder

David Kelly: Top quality corner forward for SLigo and has been for the last few years.

Gary Hurney:Excellent full forward and loads of teams would love to have him as his has height and strength on top of his excellent footballing ability.

Low profile to me would be a player who isn't garnering the attention that their talent merits. Obviously Cooper, Brogan, O'Sullivan, Michael Murphy, John Doyle etc. are fawned over. I think McNamee would be a good choice as while he is noted to have ability, he doesn't get the attention he would deserve as Offaly are considered a lesser light these days. I disagree with your choice of Ben Brosnan though, simply because I don't think he's a good player. Also Gary Brennan would definitely fit the profile also, gets no attention despite his only peer being John Galvin I would imagine. He is a colossus at midfield, virtually unstoppable.

Daniel Currams played underage football with Offaly. He is a much better hurler than footballer.Sean Ryan left the football panel (he was a decent palyer but nothing special)and Offaly and is playing hurling with them now.

I've seen Podge Collins play football, he should be playing for Clare as he brings a lot more to the table in that regard. And also as far I know, Tomás Brady is on the Dublin hurling team.

Paddy Keenan has won an All Star, so not un-heralded.
Emlyn Mulligan for Leitrim is a nice footballer.

I know it's Friday but it's a bit early in the day to be -------ed, sober up before you start throwing bar stools out through the windows again.

Ciaran McDonald would make a good case from a Tipp perspective and I feel that in a year or two we could be saying the same of Robbie Kiely.

Ah come on now you know you were been serious.

As they say around our parts "The only lads that play Football are the lads that can't play Hurling".

I know lads who are/were fine hurlers but have 2 left feet when it comes to playing football.

thats why football as they call it now generally amounts to 70 per cent handpass and 30 per cent kicking

Agreed , can't see why having two left feet would harm your chances at all of making it in Football these days.
