Is it me or is there a greater number of intercounty players heading out to Boston this year? Connaughton, Lavin , Lee and Dessie Dolan to name a few. It seems the minute they are knocked out of the championship, the American clubs come calling. I can understand that in current times, that the chance to earn a few bob cant be sniffed at, but can those players walk back into the changing room next year and be taken seriously. Also, what is the story as regards insurance. I see ur man Connaughton broke his ankle after 5 minutes over there.

Dessie Dolan is a teacher no? So he would be getting paid during the summer? So would be getting paid on top of that while he is in Boston?

Correct, the Irish taxpayer is paying for Dessie Dolan to play football in the US for the summer.
Surely it is time to pay these people for when they work only.

The salary is stretched out. It is not "extra pay". Teachers would be getting this money anyway whether they were to get paid more during teaching months and nothing during the summer, or the current situation which is a lot easier. There's no need to start another "public sector abuse thread" as there have been plenty.

Iam sure that these players will declare any income received for Revenue purposes

I presume all teachers who work during their incredibly long break will declare all monies received if they work during the school holidays.

Of the 52 weeks in a year, teachers work maybe 30-32 of those weeks.
Of those weeks they work, they finish at 4ish each day?
Based on those numbers, the top most salary a teacher should receive is 23k per year?

Pay for play is what those boys are doing and this is common knowledge on both sides of the pond for years.Good luck to the players for making a buck out of it and it would be a damned fool that would turn it down.Days of God Bless the health lads are long gone and no loss.

I'd say none of the Galway lads remember it anyway.

Do I ever and sad to say it was one of your fellow countymen who done the dirty deed on Tony.Everyone in GAA circles in NY that time knew damn well what was going on but everyone on both sides turned the blind eye as there was plenty of Keady,s to go around at the time. The problem was Galway were top dogs at the time and Tipp were about to play them in the championship when a wise Tipp buisnessman in NY decided on his own Tipp would have a better chance of winning if Keady was not on the field. He was right.Tipp won on the strength of it but his buisness in NY went west as most Irish guys do not mind getting their ass kicked on a level playing field. The word went out very swiftly in the GAA circles that this mans buisness was to be avoided.End of the day Hitch I always say it is nice to be nice because bad things have a very strange way of happening to those that are not.

Not necessarily. He may not be paid for the summer.
