Hi all,

In a serious rut at the moment. Working freelance in online marketing and need to get more work, but the motivation is not there. It's always hard to muster up the motivation. I will, obviously,as I have to source more work.

I have never really been into it. It's always been a means to an end. I suppose it's been harder since I have been doing it freelance, as I am expected to network and hustle for work. This is something I'm just going to have to do.

I have been thinking for the last 3 or 4 years of changing "career". Use the skills I already have built up and channel it into something else.

I have been thinking about the Open University option, as I just can't afford to go back full time, and lose out on what little I am earning now!

I always liked languages, and speak French,Italian, and am learning Spanish.
"Emigrate" could be the first thing you might suggest if I like languages.

I have looked into maybe studying Italian,as I never studied it. I learned it from living there. But I can't find anywhere yet that offers a distance learning option.

So, skills would be languages, technical writing background, and online marketing skills.

Essentially, my languages are wasted on me and have been for quite a while. I suppose, unless I am in London or Paris, they are going to be. Not much use for them in Limerick I think!! But I would like to use them in some capacity.

I had threatened to a teaching dip for the last 5 years, but don't think it's for me. I think I would have done it by now...

It's going to be up to me to decide what to do, but I feel like I am drifting along at the moment, not sure of any angle I could use.

Have you considered the scrap metal business at all?

Check out potential openings in the European commission. Language skills, technical writing would surely be of interest to them?

Cowpat, if you dont mind me asking what part of the country are you based in?
A lot of the multinationals that have set up in Galway in the last few years are looking for marketing type people with languages.
Your online experience and cupla focal would get you in the door for an interview in thiese places anyway.

Jaysus, thanks lads.

I'm in the Limerick area. When times were good, Shannon industrial estate was a nice place to source work. No more unfortunately!
The EU commission. Had thought of it, but I am not native level French or Italian, and my Gaeilge would have slipped to intermediate as opposed to being fluent at the moment.

Thanks for the diploma link, and will check out the yankee colleges too..
