I wouldn't want him at City, though, unless Mancini wants to release one of his current four
(which could be either Tevez or Dzeko)

Infairness its no great surprise to be honest. Arsenal have been a club in steady decline since they last won the league in 2004..roughly the timeline since RVP came to arsenal. Hes won nothing, hes nearing 30, wengers policy has seen better quality players go ( Henri etc) and replaced by players ( chamack etc) that are clearly way off the mark to be successful and winning things.
This wont help arsenal either way for next season, if he stays he will be like a bad penny around the place digging his heels and anxious to go and could be a bad influence in the dressing room, if he goes a bit like Fab, the best player arsenal have from the previous season ups and goes..sends out a bad signal to the players. I think wenger is losing it - his comments on spain for example seem to me of a man in delusion with the game.

I think Arsenal should offload him rather than holding onto him. He has had a good few injuries and has been a bit of a Darren Anderton. He is 29 in a couple of weeks, and there is no guarantee he would remain fit. If you hold him to the last year of his contract, he could spend half that season injured anyway.
Cash in and run.

When I was younger I was a huge Man Utd fan. As I got older I realised that soccer is just a business and the players simply go where ever they can get the most money. I don't blame them for this, I'd do the same in my line of work if someone came along offering me more, there is no difference. I always find it strange that adults can get upset when a player announces that he wants to leave a club when he will probably get a raise, when they would all do the same thing. It is hard to have an affinity towards a company who has just recruited the best emnployees by offering them more money than anyone else.
In my view thats what makes the GAA special, you support people from your locality and no matter what happens you are all in it together. In the case of your local club you probably knew everyone all their lives and ye grew up together. Theoretically, when ye go to play a game it's your best 15 against their best 15, not 13 plus two lads that signed from a club up the country. If ye aren't good enough, then ye go home and work on it together, as a team. I love the idea of playing for your local club with friends, representing your area.
For some this is probably a simplistic view and they will argue that players deserve money for the sacrifices they make. That lads who transfer from one county to another "just want to play football" and that it's a free country. It is a free country but if you don't want to play for your local club or county then you are free to play another sport. Players deserve expenses as they shouldn't be out of pocket for playing for a team. I, also, have no problem with lads getting €20K from a phone company for an ad campaign or another lad getting €5k from beverage companies, they deserve to be paid for advertising a product. I am 100% against a lad getting paid to play hurling or football. When that happens it will be no different to soccer and it will be all about who can sign the best players, it will lose the local parish aspect.
The other argument I hear is why should Croke Park get all the money when the players are what is attracting the supporters. I agree with this and I think the GAA could handle this better. This money, in my view, should be used to employ coaches in local areas all over the country to promote the game and teach the skills especially in less succesful counties. It should also be used to build facilities all over the country, pay off the debts of clubs who have them and let them get on with the job of promoting the games. When this is done and there is still money left over why can't they subsidise insurance premiums, employ fitness coaches to educate their members, launch international ad campaigns to get people to come to Ireland, there are hundreds of things that could be done to use the money to benefit all of us not just a few.
I still look out for Man Utd results and like to see them win but I don't get upset when they lose anymore. However, I believe that with the GAA we have something special which has been undermined in recent weeks, if the Celtic Tiger has taught us anything it's that money isn't the be all and end all. For once, lets learn from our mistakes.
Sorry for the long post but I couldn't stop typing once I got going.

You don't want a striker that can get up to 30 goals a season when fit? He would prob not start every game for City though and his mins on the pitch would probably not be as high when he was at Arsenal

Van Persie has had a great season but also a very long one.He as everyone knows is extremely injury prone, while i wouldnt wish it on the lad, chances are he will be out for a lot of the coming season.Arsenal will sell asap because they know his medical side better than anyone else.In six months time everyone will be hailing arsene wenger as a genius for offloading him........

Spot on. It is no different to a lad moving from Microsoft to work for Intel. Like anyone in employment they are entitled to move if they for whatever reasons they want, money, ambition etc. I find it gas the way fans expect some sort of loyalty to the club from players, when all they are is employees.

The idea that he wouldn't be top man at City is laughable, stats from last year speak for themselves, single handed got them to CL place

key words: 'when fit'
How many injury-free seasons has he had?
Last season he defied his medical history with the number of games he played
