The team and the manager have run their course.
Time for a new manager with new ideas and to build a new team.

I wouldnt be writing his obituary yet, but he has been working on a year to year basis for a while now.
When he does walk, he will walk with his head held high.

He will hardly get the opportunity to do that.

Anthony Daly would be a good replacement for Cody.

When you see a thread like this, it makes you realise that if you want a serious discussion on hurling, go elsewhere.
If you wanna larf, go onto AFR..

WUM. Cody is as cute as a fox. He can now use this to motivate the players. Can still see Kilkenny winning the All Ireland. Congrats to Galway who played space age hurling. It was a breathtaking performance. It had skill, tactical awareness and physicality in abundance. It would be nice to see a new county lift the Liam McCarthy Cup.

This is Cody's 7th defeat in 14 championship seasons. Each time he has seen his side defeated, they've beaten them the next time around.
And before people lose the run of themselves after today, its worth noting than when Rice (one half of the best midfield duo of the last few years) came on, even though the game looked beyond them by that stage, Kilkenny looked a hell of a lot better, and outscored Galway. Had he started (ifs and buts I know) it could well have been a different game.
We may have lost Leinster, but rule Kilkenny out at your peril.

A bit of sense at last!
Galway were super today but that doesn't mean Kilkenny could not feature again in this years all ireland and win it, and half that team end up with all stars on top of it.
They are now a wounded animal and it will be interesting to see there response, but I would def not write them or Brian Cody off!

Absolutely.
Cody is a happy loser if ever I saw one. He should step down immediately and the job should be given to Justin McCarthy or someone close to that calibre.

I was listening to that Babs Keating fella on the way down from the match, he was talking a lot of sense and seems to know his stuff. Would he be the perfect replacement for Cody?

Well Kk were always going to reduce the deficit some bit but Galway always looked comfortable. Kilkenny never really opened galway up and the second goal was a bit fortuitous. Never seen the KK half back line so quiet.

So John - just imagine Kilkenny won by 10 points yesterday.
Would you be coming on here saying "can still see Galway winning the All Ireland"?

I was with a Kilkenny man yesterday watching this game and he was saying they just couldnt keep that intensity and hunger going all the time. Galway were the hungrier team yesterday and had it won by half time. If it was anyone else they were playing people would have been flicking back to forth to the tennis - but it was KK and even when they were 8 or 9 down with time running out, could get the feeling in the pub that if KK got a goal they could win it.
Obvious quustion to ask and I asked both the KK man and a few Galway lads after the game - if they met again in the AIF would Galway win it?

Yes. If it can be done once it can be done twice.

Kilkenny had a bad day ... they will be back and could win the All Ireland. But the difference on the day wasn't one man (Rice). Kilkenny were blown out of it.
BTW Kilkenny had a lot of new blood on the team ... I was kinda thinking the older lads like Hickey and Shefflin might not have it in them and the young lads not quite experiened enough ...but then I drove this notion out of my head. This is Kilkenny we're talking about!
