Is it just me or does any one else think Galway should have kept the cameras out of their hotel celebrations until september.

It was a great victory for Galway, but I find their celebrations a bit forced.
Does it really mean that much to them to be Leinster champions? It means a lot to beat Kilkenny, but have these Galway players dreamed of lifting the Leinster championship trophy since they were children?
I don't think so.

Those lads created history AND blew the Championship wide open ...why not let them celebrate, and sure what harm if a few cameras were present?

An interview with the captain and Manager at the hotel. What difference does that make could you tell me? No harm in it at all , it was a significant win.

A 5 minute interview with a deadpan Anthony Cunningham and Fergal Moore is hardly going to have any effect on how they play in the All-Ireland semi-final on August 12. RTE probably asked them could they say a few words with the cup for The Sunday Game. I'm sure the players had a good night but I didn't get the sense that they were any major celebrations going on.
The way Anthony Cunningham was reading the riot act to them out on the field after the game is probably more significant.

If it was Laois or Carlow that had just won then it would be understandable , Galway have a history of following a superb performance with a non performance e.g 1985 1986 1993 2001 2005 etc. The hype in Galway for the next month will be something else and this young squad need protection from all the back slapping and rubbish talk of all Irelands until more is achieved.

it is a bit much alright, they have only won a leinster championship and really it puts a lot of pressure on themselves for the rest of the championship

The pleasure we got in Galway was from beating KK and particularly the way we beat them , winning the Leinster trophy was very much secondary. There will be no hype..if there is any it will only come from gobdaws who know nothing about hurling. We've been down this road long enough to know that one brilliant performance is no good unless it's followed up by further victories. And whatever quality team we meet in the semi final will have plans well laid to expose our weaknesses so for sure we will have our work cut out to win it. Winning always brings added pressure but I would prefer that any day to losing!!!

I agree completely, we tend to have a fierce hang up in the GAA about any player or manager specking to anyone in the press or media , too often it is linked to a defeat afterwards where as in reality it has no effect on a players performance.
And then often the same people who want players to stay out of the media will also be the very ones who give out about the lack of press coverage the GAA gets in the media.

It isn't just you, but whose idea was it?
I was gobsmacked when I saw that hotel interview; that few minutes of coverage should have been devoted to footage of the full-blooded challenges we were getting yesterday. The few minutes of game play, devoted as it was to the score, showed only a hint of the intensity at which the game was played.
Red cards to all those responsible, be they RTE, or the Galway camp

It'll swell their heads
You know what your ex-All Ireland winning players have complained about: your young players win one big game and they think they're superstars.
Your mentors should have been putting a lid on expectations; starting with that interview.
It doesn't matter what they said in those interviews: it was the fact they gave them

Did you notice the warm down on the pitch minutes after the presentation ? Dont worry about Galway Jimbo, Anthony Cunningham seems to me like a guy totally in control and wont let this get to the players heads. Oh and less of the name calling eh ?

Way too early to judge him, MM
As for the 'name calling': nothing personal, you're a decent skin.
I just thought the term might be familiar to you, given its over-use by your less civilised county-men.
And point well taken

There was no celebration banquet or what have you, I can tell you that.
I was in a pub in Galway, the Sunday game was on the TV and 7 or 8 of the panel walked in and were having a quite pint and watching it.
Or are they not allowed to do that either?

There were no celebrations. The interview wasn't live; the players went to the Regency hotel for a post-match meal before heading home. Like most teams do I'm sure.

Lads welcome to the year 2012.
Television is a fairly popular means of communication.
Galway hurlers had just created hurling history with a brilliant display.
RTE felt it was worth covering the aftermatch celebrations because it was newsworthy.
The Galway manager and captain agreed to be interviewed and both stated that there were faults in their display, especially in the second half, which would not do in an All Ireland semi final.
It was most natural and normal and gave the sense that Galway were comfortable in their achievement, but wanted much more of themselves.
They could all be locked away of course and hidden and of course this would be the paranoid way, typical of the inferior.
And we could leave the airways to the soccer and rugby lads who have no trouble in dealing with publicity and promoting their sport.
Or we could get a life like the Galway hurling set-up did on Sunday afternoon and evening.
I believe strongly that if Galway lose the semi-final it will be because the other team was better. As Cody always correctly says.

Brilliantly put scelp. If they lose the next day it will be exactly as you say - not good enough on the day.

Question: have you ever recalled seeing a Sunday Game interview from a team hotel other than with an All-Ireland winning team?

Agree. Was actually surprised to see the level of news coverage too. With the way RTE were acting, you'd have sworn they just won the All Ireland. Silly stuff really, and no offence to Galway, as I'm sure plenty of their fans probably feel the same. With all the media hype in recent years I'm sure many would be glad to see the back of sections of the fawning media, and just be left get on with their business quietly.
